I got an email from play.com today informing me that even though Nintendo had a shortage of Wii this christmas I would be getting one on launch. WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! :)

I rang gamestation today, they informed me, not everyone who pre-ordered will get it on release date.
On the website it says if you ordered before Nov. 9th youll get one on release day. Considering I pre-ordered Sept 16th, Im hoping ill be ok.
Gunna go down to the store in person tomorrow though and see if I can somehow make sure im top of the list. (or at least know how close to the top I am, I hate the idea of not knowing!)

Since I was fifth in the preorder queue its not a surprise, but Ill still be in line for the shop opening.

they do look to be this christmass console though, wonder how many will be about come late january to pick up with nice bundles ;)

I would never buy a console on release day, its always worth waiting a few months and then having a look at the bundles that come out.

The core system is a bit pants - but the big packs are about £349 with 3 games, 2 controllers and media remote etc. - thats the comparison I was making with the expensive pack mentioned above.
I just wonder what the wii is meant to compete with, as its priced a little too close to the xbox for comfort? I thought it was meant to be like £120 or something

claims that he was the 21st person to pre-order on the 04/10/2006 at an oxford branch of game, now, I assume he is going off the order serial number which is 021.
Now this is the bit I dont get, mines 1014!? but I ordered on the 25/09/2006 in Nottingham!!? Does that mean 1013 people beat me to it, if so HOW???
EDIT- Actually after a google it turns out im FOURTEENTH, which isnt half bad to be fair, Nottingham has two GAMES in it, both of which are large, finges crossed :)
EDIT2- Went into game nottingham, pretty much guaranteed one unless lightning hits the van or whatever, they will be ringing me this week to confirm what I want with it and bundle deals etc 8) :mrgreen: :mrgreen: 8) 8) 8) 8)

Play.com are currently packing my Wii. My Wii is going to wet itself if Play.com dont pack it properly. Better be a splash proof container!

My Game is opening at 7am, and I am now in bed preparing for a good nights sleep in preparation to be there for the doors opening in the shopping centre. The nice bloke there let me sneak in the back and look at their pile of Wii. They got 57 and they are all already allocated :)

Got this haul from Asda, 20 chumps had been queing since like 4pm and before :shock: I rolled in at 11:50 and the chap kindly bagged my stuff up as order 21, did some shopping, qued up for 10/15 then got the above 8)
Strolling into work nice and casual tomorrow, and will swing into game where my wii will be waiting 8)
(incase anyones wondering why ive not got my stuff from game with my pre-ordered console, firstly they said they couldnt put anything to one side with the consoles!? and the games where all £5 cheaper at asda anyway!)

Picked mine up this morn, quite a good looking bundle, shame on the AV component cable not being properly out yet, not that I have a HD TV to play it on... :lol:

they had component cables in my local store? bit of a rip off at £17 pound though!
Gunna try ASDA at lunch to see if i can pick up wii play. My lecturer here at uni, said after lunch we can hook up the wii to the projector! legend!

Wow, Wii Sports is great fun! Only managed to play Tennis (9/10) Baseball (7/10) Bowling (7/10) so far. Bowling would be more fun multiplayer.
And sweet, Wii Play just got dispatched from Powerplaydirect, Bargain at £26, £1 more than a Wii mote.

Mine turned up today. Very nice system and really good control.
I actually played it earlier this morning in the Manchester Arndale Centre as there was a Nintendo Wii booth set up where Ninty were showing off Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Monkey Ball. I had a go on Monkey Ball and will have to get this game when I get some more controllers.
Up to now on my own Wii I have updated the software, checked out the channels and created my first Mii. Now its time to go try out the games.

I had a feeling that either it was the case of a handfull of consoles coming into stock that they were expecting around 3-4 pm or that they would snapped up by geeks lurking a dark corner at 2:59 refreshing. Guess it was the first in this case.

Was in line at Game at 6.45, about four people in front. Nice Game staff came out and handed out sweeties. Picked up console, Wii Play, Zelda and Red Steel. Played lots of Wii Sports and I think Nintendo are onto something. My parents came over to pick up Sakura for the afternoon and spent two hours creating Miis and playing Sports before declaring they might think of buying a console because its the first time theyve understood how to work one!

I think that is the trick to get people interested who wouldnt normally be interested, get them to make a Mii. I need to get some form of wireless as the Wii is connected to our main TV down stairs and all the tinternet is upstairs.
So far I only have Wii Sports and I am loving it. Although I think I have got to the point where I am not going to get much better at each of the games. Boxing is frustrating because I am sure I am doing the right motions yet the boxer isnt throwing punches. Its making the more difficult boxers even harder to beat :( And why is it the only game that requires the nunchuk? Tennis makes you unplug it. Barmy if you ask me.
Also some websites are claiming that European Wiis have a thicker cord to prevent Wiimote missiles. Wrong, my Wiimote has the fine string, not the thicker string. I can see how its possible to sling it hard enough to damage something. TFTs arent the most sturdy of devices.
I have noticed the Wiiremote can get confused if pointed at our glass table, something to bear in mind :) Its certainly a very different experience to the Xbox360, and that isnt a bad thing. Its very invigorating.

Im almost convinces nintendo are onto an absolute winner here, if not the winner.
Its just a simple idea that can breach the age & gender barrier that typical games (i.e driving, fps) fail to draw interest or an understanding for their purpose.

Went with my mate to get his wii and got myself a wiimote as well, will be useful when i eventually get my wii.
Am loving it atm, wiisports is great, i can there being wiisports 2 tbh.
There is just much potential for the mii system in games. I doubt it will be used as much as nintendo hope though.
I have to say i am totally unimpressed with red steel. The control system is interesting, but the graphics are damn awful, n64 level, you could look at it and think you were playing goldeneye. Considering how nice zelda looks it is shocking. They use almost no decent light and shadow effects which is the strong point of nintendo consoles, the textures on the other hand....
Overall i am damn impressed, will be picking myself one up in the next few months without question.

There will always be a place for the next PS & Xbox. There will be allways room for the next Metal Gear, Halo, Gran Turismo etc.
Nintendo simply wouldnt be where they are now if they didnt do something else than make the next gamecube and rely on the unique games that they were at time of release.

i don;t disagree, but lately there has been so much "The PS3 is a technological marvel and its going to stomp on the competition" type mentality from the PS3 fanboys its worn thin, i figured i would get in before they did ;)

Ive played a PS3 (I think someone else has here too) and it wasnt that impressive.
I had a quick go on one, Something with robot armour. Not impressed, pretty but more of the same old stuff in a differnt box.

I fling my wiimote everywhere, spin it round my wrist an stuff.
however, my friends apparently snapped really easily, so maybe its just random one-off events or something, i mean there must be like over a million wiimotes out there, and ive not heard that many cases.
That said.... in america you can now order a newer, thicker wiimote strap.
Good thing about nintendo (that sony need to learn from) they realised they did something wrong, and offered to fix it for free.

For multiplayer, definitely. For single player, maybe if you love Zelda and Mario.
