EDIT: Keys work dandy! Resized XP pro down 6G and installed Ubuntu Breezy.  It all works  pretty darn great. Suspend is working but iffy--an upgrade to Dapper or Edgy should solve that. :D Network was configured without any input, wirelessly. 8) Graphics driver  should probably be dealt with. Its an on-board ATI. Groan. Cant beat a $200  wifi enabled lappie with a fresh battery. :ptu: :D

Picked up a Dell Latitude w wireless, 256mb, and 750hz processor for $200. Nice professional machine. Friggin awesome screen...but I didnt check all of the keyboad keys. K and I dont worky. Not even if pry off the keys and wiggle em. :(

On the other hand, it booted Dapper Drake, and everything worked out of the box--even the battery indicator. Har dee har. Beat that Microsoft! Might wipe the whole drive even tho its XP Pro--it runs like molasses. Could be Norton or somthin.

Anyway, anybody have any general clues on how to fix a couple keys, or is the keyboard hosed? It aint dirty btw.

Hmmm, I uninstalled Office, Norton, disabled Messenger, Explorer, and MSN. Got FF on there. Now its humming. Cant wait to dapperize it though. 8)

Defragging right now, then Ill thoroughly clean the underside of the keys. They pop right off, btw.

Another interesting thing: booted both Dapper and Breezy on it. Breezy set up the wireless by default and the touchpad settings were nicer. Battery level and all the doohickys work. :ptu:

Even superglued a couple case cracks. :D

Now I just gotta fix them keys. :(

Question: if I create a Fat32 partition, does XP see it as a separate drive? For shared media of course. /naive

If you have more than one partition it sees them all as seperate drives.

Cleaning keys did not help. Crap. New keyboards arent that expensive, but what a PITA. Grr.

Blew it out orally on a fluke. Bingo! Works like a charm and runs like a champ. Cant beat a solid $200 lappie with a wireless card.

Dell CPX-J. bout five years old, but runs like a  zinger with Ubuntu installed. Up-apted to dapper overnight. XP Pro runs pretty nicely as well, once the cruft was scraped off.

Im  now  up-apted to Edgy Eft on the lappie. X broke as was expected. Hell, I started with Hoary or someptin.

A quick "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"  fixed  most niggles. :D

Just make yerself a boontoo partition, red. No reason to wipe it.
