Also even if the above was true, just be because it had some shortcomings, that doesn't mean that there's no innovation? Typical anti-apple fan boy post to be honest, they basically kicked off the touchscreen smartphone market, I'm not saying they were the first, but they were the first to do it well!

*this statement is not based on fact, this is my own opinion and I'm happy for someone to show me a phone released before that wasn't sh*t to use, I'm also not an apple fan boy, I have both an android and an iPhone and I prefer the iPhone, but I can appreciate the benefits of both and also the drawbacks.

If apple release a new phone they are very quick to post on the net saying how sh*t it is, but when Samsung or htc release one a lot less people feel the need to post, despite that more often than not you'll see less innovation, also strapping a larger screen on the phone doesn't make it better, some phones are starting to look very trigger happy in this respect!

Sorry for the little bit of a rant, but the mac vs non mac argument is getting very old (from both sides not just the anti apple group) often I'm sure that people who have these arguments haven't used both

Kicked off? The smartphone market was dominated by power and business users, using more capable devices which included HSDPA support, gps and wifi as standard, microSD upgradable storage, etc...etc... What apple did do well though is market it to the general public.

I guess that's one thing revolutionary about the release of the iPhone (and other I devices really) it was the marketing machine behind it.

Apple brand things very well.

Take a look at any of the HTC customised xda's available around the launch of the iPhone, they were pretty damn intuitive and easy to use.

Weren't all of the xda's running windows mobile? Sorry but windows mobile at the time was awful, just browsing the web was clunky let alone trying to do anything multimedia, although I do agree that the omission of 3G on the first model was a stupid idea.

To be honest the next "innovation" I want to see on a smart phone is a half decent battery life, apple should have kept the thickness and added extra battery life, to last a weekend without charging would be nice!

The screen is very slightly better than the S3 and One X in terms of DPI (312 vs 326) but its also 0.7" smaller.

I expect the lightness in weight is impressive technically but is 18g lighter than a One X impressive considering the smaller form factor? Similarly, 1.0mm thinner than the S3?

It is nice to see Apple still making quality items but I was hoping that they would improve on the current generation of phones, and pending excellent battery life or exceptional performance (Id be surprised if the A6 outperforms the S4 snapdragon) there's nothing new to see here.

Maybe we have spoilt in the past with revolutionary improvements but in my mind that was what helped justify the price tags. When its the same tech as current 'free on contract' phones it doesn't drive market innovation or justify its sky high prices.

What revolutionary improvements?

The first iPhone failed to have even ancient 3G tech in it.
The next only brought it up to 3G standards when phones were already up on 3.5G tech
The 3rd brought a subtle upgrade in processor and most of the upgrades were software based which the jailbreak community had already ported to earlier models. Bring capabilities to the iPhone that every other phone already had back years ago "holy sh*t I can record video!"
The 4th brought Siri... Another software upgrade that only worked with network connectivity. My O2 XDA had voice command on windows mobile 5... Years later apple still haven't got it working properly.
The 5th brings us the A6 processor to offer similar performance to phones that were released 6 months ago, and a slightly larger (but still smaller than the competition) screen.

Yeah... Revolutionary. The real Che Guevara  of the phone world. Well I suppose fanboi hipsters everywhere are indeed emblazoned with the apple logo, at least that's one thing it shares with the Che.

Facts in the above are quite wrong :)

Really? I'm still yet to be corrected.

It's an iPhone. It's in one form factor, it's behind the curve for cutting edge because apple always is and it looks pretty.

Me I own an iPad because I do indeed think apple have cornered the market for tablet devices the ipad3 is done very well indeed.

You can say many things about apple products but there is absolutely diddly squat revolutionary about their iPhone line of products.

It's all been done before, just apple shove it in a very well presented package and market it to the masses.
Missing versions, missing big features, missing features, wrong features....
I get your point and just with any phone all can be labelled as iterations, true but no point just posting things that are not actually right to make the point. Just say it.

I also hate people that feel Apple is revolutionary, I like their products but I do not think this. Why is every company out there trying to emulate them in lots of ways?
Because they go about the production of something or create the features in the ways that work, they screw customers over like other companies but they do things to push technology forward in a lot of ways.
Why I am sad to see them just sue and hounder other companies who are also trying to push, bad for tech overall recent events have been :(

But still
The apple approach to a lot of things is something to admire and emulate (which companies do). Razer is a PC based company who is ever increasing adopting the same policies. Their products cost more then others but they are dam dam dam nice! I want their new keyboard and mouse for example!

Seen plenty of video articles on phones and what phones looked like pre iphone and what they look like now. Maybe companies were developing the next wave as the tech was viable too, Apple released the new format of smartphone first though and set the standard where all phones now try to better or compete with.
Before iphone clamshell etc was hip, physical buttons etc. Many companies even after iPhone said non physical keys would not take off, was going to flop as a concept.

iReligion ?

Peace be upon Steve Jobs (pbuh), our fallen messiah, hipsters everywhere shall praise him forever.

May your devices always be thinner, more expensive (so you can look smug), your jeans freshly-ironed, your dubstep cool and fresh, full of 'donk' and 'wubwub', and your 'patents' secure from the evils of the vile satan known as 'Samsung'*.

It is funny how some say it is underwealming, like I said you wiill not see anything WOW in phones for a while now till a peace of tech really becomes viable that is that next leap.

- LTE Etc in one chip and not a battery hog, why Apple waited and did not do it when it was a separate chip

More like it would have cost them too much and eaten into their precious massive profit margin!

Yeah, that is what I hate about apple big time, that sort of stuff!
It is ok though because $1 shops etc soon have this stuff for next to nothing anyway and if they only last a few months, who cares, only couple of bucks.

every company that brings out accessories to support their latest gadget massively overprices their stuff.
Their adapters are the same price for the old dock connector - but chinese makers have their versions that cost a 1/4 of the apple price.

Looks like the new Apple Maps app that they have replaced Google Maps with is shocking. Type in London and it takes you to London, Ontario, Canada. They've labelled Airfield Park in Ireland as an actual Airfield, Doncaster has been renamed to Duncaster, some towns are actually miles from where the real town is if you use Apple Maps, most roads aren't labelled, the list goes on. Here is just one report http://www.reghardware.com/2012/09/20/apple_fans_slam_ios_6_map_app/ and here is another http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2012/09/apple-knows-apple-maps-suck-right-now-but-says-itll-get-better/

Apple have also stolen a clock design and now risk being sued http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2012/09/apple-totally-stole-the-design-of-the-ios-6-ipad-clock/

BBC list few other issues:

Some towns appear to be missing, such as Stratford-upon-Avon and Solihull.
Others, like Uckfield in East Sussex, are in the wrong location.
Satellite images of various locations, particularly in Scotland, are obscured by cloud.
A search for Manchester United Football Club directs users to Sale United Football Club, a community team for ages five and above.
Users also reported missing local places, such as schools, or strange locations. Another screenshot showed a furniture museum that was apparently located in a river.
Museum listed in the middle of the river.

I can only assume that the removal of google maps an YouTube is due to the Android vs iOS battle, Apple have kind of shot them self in the foot with this one though! Google need to release google maps as a download though!
