Windows 7 Purchase Question
on: March 08, 2010, 22:11:35 PM
If you purchase a windows 7 retail copy in the UK and installed it on a machine in say New Zealand is there any strange licence rule that will prevent you installing and registering it?

Despite the exchange rate it is cheaper to get a DVD with both 64 bit and 32 bit versions from Tekheads then it is to buy it here (Around $360 for the retail with both versions) which is totally stupid.

no issue at all that I know of.  You may have shipping issues, but getting it sent to someone over here, then shipping it abroad would be fine.

That is what I was thinking, shipped as a gift to me from clocked is plan.
I should be ok with and OEM though? only come in 64bit though.

With that what does windows 7 in terms of number of installs and upgrades etc? Retail any different from the OEM in that regard?

OEM is locked to the motherboard, so only installable on one computer....

Retail is as many installs as you like, as long as youve only got it installed on a single machine at one time.

Shipping as gift doesnt reduce customs charges. I buy stuff from the US all the time, and send stuff there - maybe 20-30 items a week.

Even warranty return is difficult - they ask for original sales invoice.

Not normally had a problem with that here, only once when Walrus marked as is and I got heft charge on it.

shipping as a gift is limited to value - over £40 you pay VAT, over £135 you get stung with a custom charge as well.
Always query the classification, as customs usually balls it up. Quite a few things have no custom duty.

Buying more then one would be an idea if I had the cash.

There is no ebay in nz. trademe.co.nz cornered the nz market and NZ owned, Ebay would not get used so they not even trying to come here.

Gift cost - yes, that is why you say it is below that cost, who has not done that?
My brother shipped band hero to us for xmas as a gift and did not pay anything hefty.
