Toucan Broadband
on: December 01, 2006, 12:50:07 PM
Hiya,
Well I was with Fast24, and they have gone down the pan, and I dont have an internet connection anymore :(

So.........I need a change!! I found Toucan, and they offer upto 8Meg etc for £14.99 a month which seems very cheap! I looked for reviews, and they arent very good........BUT, reading reviews on Pipex (who I know is good), they also got bad reviews etc etc.

Has anyone used Toucan or shouldnt they be touched with a barge pole?

If they are poo, who else could I try with upto 8meg and unlimited downloads? (i dont mind about fair usage policies :) )

Cheers

obvious one is Cable, though they _may_ be bringing a FUP in soon.  Nobody is too sure, though im in the area they are trialling their Packet shaping and its a nightmare.  They keep getting calls telling them if i wanted a 56k line they I would be using one!

Dont trust advertising executives who offer up to *Meg broadband. You might fall well short.

Generally speaking though they are good but slow in cutting their prices, which is why we ended up on talktalk.

If you have normal phone access and can get by on 40GB a month allowance then talktalk are a good bet so far. Unfortunately they have suffered from their success too. Got a 2Mbit connection instead of an 8 but its solid.

I have been with pipex adslmax for nearly a year and its great.

Ive been sucking data down at around 6.5-7 meg a second nigh on 24/7 with no decrease in service or speed at any time, apart from one 5 minute glitch 2 weeks ago.

The fact that fast24/el cheapos went down the pan and left you without any internet.... well doesnt that make you think you should maybe pay a few quid more and go with a big named ISP... ?

ToucanSurf 8Mb FUP is 1.2 GB at peak times, doesnt say if thats weekly or monthly or what tho.

Im looking around too since plus-net are dying, pipex look pretty good for £25.

Do pipex traffic shape?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

On several of their realms, but not the one im on!

They say they will in their AUP for extremely heavy peak time users only, but Im sitting at about a few hundred Gig a month downloading with no slowdown...

Fast24 wasnt cheap.....it was £27 a month for 1meg.......

Ive gone with toucan anyway, so will see how it is. And it cant be that bad as its part of Pipex so is a large company.
