MP3 Players, High capacity
on: November 11, 2007, 10:32:12 AM
Hi all
I have a quick question regarding MP3 players.

I currently have a 20gb iRiver H10. Previously I had the H320 (I think thats what it was) which was excellent. Even though it was large, it was trouble free, and did everything I wanted and more. Until I reversed the polarity on the car charger ><

The H10 is ok, but glitchy as hell, and the capacity being less is kinda annoying. Its getting more unstable with increasing time, so I figured Id start researching replacements now.

Because of my use of iRiver, I use WMP11 to manage my music. I cant stand iTunes, so iPods are out of the question really I guess.

My requirements are that the capacity has to be at 20gb, or more. It also requires an internal mic, or at least, a jack to plug a mic into so I can record lectures. As to videos and all that, Im not bothered. Music, mic, and battery life are all thats important.

Any suggestions on what fits the bill out there?

Whats wrong with itunes? But you can get other programs if you dont like it. You could get an 80gig ipod classic for £160 ?

I dont like the layout and iTunes functionality. I guess it comes down to what youre used to. I like to have all my music grouped by album and folder etc. iTunes when I last used it was all about creating playlists etc. I never use playlists as I just listen to whole albums.

Im guessing its probably possible to make itunes and WMP11 work in exactly the same way so the point is moot. However itd be nice to not have to play around with things to get it to work properly?

Then sort albums, create album playlists or if you use folders then just open up the album folder and play your songs. It is no different to anything else in this sense at all but as sam said you can get an ipod and use other software and still sync etc.

iTunes organises into Genre->Artist->Album and this mirrors to the iPod. Ive never seen anything program that can pull stuff out of an 80gig music collection as fast and the integration is seemless.

Id never switch off iTunes now. But each to their own.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo… Again.
