How to region free an xbox?

My XBox is American and all my DVDs are European and the Xbox says it wont play them !!!
Is there a way to make this xbox stop being silly ?

Modchip, or ther are some programs available, but to use them you have to first load up the program disc, then swap to the DVD every time you want to play one.

This is assuming youre talking about an xbox, not an xbox360.

you can buy a dvd player for £5, just go buy one - much quiter than the xbox

It is still just the firmware and you can modchip and hack the 360 but no live for you if you do.
A hddvd player has no region locking or anything for dvd or hddvd on it at all (handy for linking to pc) BUT when connected to the 360 it reads the region information of the 360. Rumour of being able to contact ms, explain you have moved country and getting a firmware update over live is about the net but I got no idea if it is true. No harm in contacting them and asking maybe?

Glad I spent ages bringing my DVDs over then.
Guess Ill have to buy a DVD player.

Just to clarify.

Even if you flash your 360s drive, it will still not allow you to watch other region dvds.
