Title: My Cineworld Unlimited thread
Post by: DEViANCE on June 19, 2011, 20:32:18 PM
Now I've got this cineworld unlimited pass for at least 12months I'm going to be watching loads of films, a lot of them crap just for the sake of it probably.

Instead of making a new thread for every film which could get annoying I'll just up date this thread.

Went to see Bad Teacher yesterday and was quite surprised that is was pretty funny and I enjoyed it. I was especially shocked that Justin Timberland can actually act.

Going to go and see The Green Lantern tonight, not really looking forward to it as, I'm not a big comic fan apart from the main ones that have already be done and they have managed to make the trailer look boring so god knows what the film will be like.

I too have the Cineworld Unlimited card, it means that you don't mind if the film you end up watching is not as good as you expected.  I saw Green Lantern on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it, on the flip side I watched Bad Teacher tonight and thought it was utter rubbish.  Perhaps it's because I went into Green Lantern expecting nothing from it, whereas I expected Bad Teacher to live up to the funny trailers.  It seems that all the funny bits in Bad Teacher had been crammed into the trailers.

Oh well, some good films on their way.

don;t have one... but my brother does...

not sure if it's all of them.... but at our local ciniworld you swipe your unlimited card when you're buying ice cream/sweets/food/drinks and get 30% off !

(which is great for me because I'm a greedy basterd!)

Green Lantern was ok, good bit of action and decent story, but it felt rushed and cobbled together a little bit to me.

Going to go and see Senna tonight, been looking forward to when cineworld were allowed to show it for ages.

I'll have to check about the money off snacks as I am eating a dangerous amount of popcorn since I got this unlimited card and it costs a fortune, but it feels wrong sitting down in the cinema without it.

I normally go with my brother... cinima is only 5 min away from us so it's a handy last min thing to do... we can leave home after the film is suposed to have started... and still get there before the trailers have finished :-)

he goes and gets the tickets while i go get the food... and he catches up with me before I've paid so i can use his card for the discount...
(there's no queue for tickets when it's late)

I think I'm getting the short end of the deal tho... he buys me a cinema ticket... I pay for large popcorn, 2 large drinks, 2 ice creams, 2 large hot dogs and sometimes a big of mistrals....  :s

Learn to do without the popcorn, eating in the cinema is bloody annoying. Admittedly popcorn isn't too bad but hot dogs/nachos/burgers/rustling sweets are infuriating. I can't fathom why people can't sit for a couple of hours without having something to chew on.

Senna was amazing, it is a shame tonight was the only showing as I would watch it again. So perfectly put together and tells an amazing story that I am gutted I was to young to appreciate when it was happening, I was fighting not to blub at end as well. Its getting a 10/10 on imdb from me.

Watched Bridesmaids tonight at the request of the wife.

After watching the trailer and seeing that it is 125mins long, I was not looking forward to it at all.
I have to be honest though, it wasn't half bad a few decent laughs and watchable storyline with decent characters, so as fa as chick'flicks go not bad at all.

Having serious popcorn overdose though, that is the 4th large popcorn since Saturday, I'm sure when I was on the treadmill in the gym I could smell popcorn in my sweat.  :o need to give it a rest for a bit.

watched Transformers tonight, I was pretty disapointed to be honest. The story didnt make much sense and the action sequences felt clumsy and random.

Not really a spoiler but just incase
(click to show/hide)

It was a really strange atmosphere in the cinema aswell, alot of french and japanese exchange students I think, they where clapping and cheering throughout the film and laughing out loud (really loud) at the little one liners and come backs etc.

That can ruin a film imo, no matter how good it is if something like that is going on I'll leave in a bad mood which will spill over to my opinion of the film ;) Not saying that Transformers isn't what we hoped it would be, haven't seen it yet but should be going at the weekend.

I remember seeing District 9 at the cinema, people were laughing at horrendously inappropriate moments. The whole point of the story seemed to fly completely over their heads.

Had that with 127 hours, i figured people were feeling uneasy and were laughing at anything potentially funny to ease tension. Think the film is best watched on your own in the quiet/dark.

If people were allowed to smoke, there would be a lot less popcorn eating.

I did that at a certain scene in Silent Hill.

Seriously? The only thing I can think of that would be worse at the cinema than the stink of cheap, rancid hotdogs and burgers would be the stench of cigarette smoke. It's bad enough if you sit down next to someone who's been smoking before they've come inside, it bloody reeks.

Bit to late when you have already sat down or if they sit next to you. Yes yes I know you can move after but still :P

Either way its never going to happen, smoking is definatly moving more towards the 'cant smoke anywhere' instead of the 'lets make a smoking cinema' way of things :)

Went to see Holy Rollers on Saturday while we where down in Silverstone for the GP, the Milton Keyens Xscape place is massive.

Its not somthing we would usually go for, the only reason we watched it was because it was the only thing on in the next 15mins while we where there and we wanted an early night to be up early for the race.

I enjoyed it, it is a good story and lots of good actors, the religion gets abit serious in some parts and the film takes about 20mins of character building before much happens but all in all it is worth a watch.

Post by: DEViANCE on July 11, 2011, 23:27:37 PM
Tonight we went to see Larry Crowne not somthing I was looking forward to at all as the trailers looked terrible but it is the only thing on that we haven't seen, except the Potters but I've never been a fan.

This is a rare example of the trailer being wrong as the film was great, a nice feel good film and I just couldnt help but laugh and smile pretty much all the way through, I know how lame that sounds but I just couldnt help it. It starts getting abit lovey dovy and chick fliky towards the end but apart from that it was very good.

watched Horrible Bosses tonight and it was really good, very funny in lots of places but the main characters where abit annoying at times but I think they were supposed to be like that.

Anyway, really good and worth a watch.

I haven't updated this for a while so I'll just do  list that I have been writing on my fridge everytime I go to the cinema.

Since getting the card in the first week of June I've seen:

Hangover 2
X-Men
Bad Teacher
Green Lantern
Senna
Bridesmaids
Transformers 3
Holy Rollers
Larry Crowne
Horrible Bosses
Cars 2
Captain America
Mr Poppers Penguins
Super 8
Rise of the planet of the apes
Cowboys and Aliens
Inbetweeners
Final Destination 5

Thats 18films in 3months @ £15pm = £2.50 per film.  :ptu: I'll try and get the average lower in the next 3 months.

Might go and see One Day tonight, really don't want to but the Missus does, but she has been a PITA today so we'll see.

I've only been to the cinema to see 4 of those films, I consider that very poor

Its sad to think that if I had to put them in order of best films I've watched on that list, the ones from 19 and 17 years ago would be at the top, some completely forgettable crap on the list.

you dont get discount on the food at Chester, if you added all the money I've spent on that it probably isn;t a good deal at all but I'm a sucker for pop corn and sweets  :w00t:

Are you sure? I'd double check, the website reckons you should:
Quote
Preferential discounts - Unlimited customers get exclusive discounts on food and drinks in cinema.

When Bacon and I have been to the cinema with knighty in Sunderland he gets a discount for all of us on his card, it makes a big difference on their prices.

yeah, 30% off, which makes a big difference when you're a greedy git like me :-)

even better when there's a few of you and it drops from 25ish to sub £20.... feels like more of a discount then
(especially on stuff you'd buy anyway)

damn.... the thought of it is making me hungry :o

saw Haywire last night, easily the worst film I have ever seen in the cinema, terrible, just terrible.

as for the discount. Chester don't do anything on the food but they have recently setup a bogof offer with the pizzahut next door. win :nana:

edit:

oh and another update. War Horse is awesome, watch it.

It's an enclosed working environment, so, for very good reasons, smoking is banned in there. It is also enclosed, no matter where you sit smoke will and does drift over to you.

If you can't spend a few hours watching a film without being so addicted to nicotine that you need to smoke try getting some medical help.

I went to Cineworld Canary Wharf for the first time in ages the other day to watch Woman in Black and was appalled at the price of food. I think it was £14 for a popcorn and two drinks. They're completely taking the piss and I wont be going to the cinema for quite some time because of it.

Last night we paid £15.50 for:

Large Drink
Medium Drink
3 x Calippo's
Bag of Peanut M&M's
Bag of other random chocolate

Thought the price was good for a cinema.

I enjoyed it, but as it was supposed to be a survival film there was quite a few things that where a bit too far fetched and unrealistic and also the ending left me feeling really disappointed.

I think it had the potential to be alot better but was still a decent watch.

I'll be watching Contraband later this week, it does look good.

It's not a rip-off of Evil Dead. It does take elements from it but it also seems to have stuff in it from other films such as Severance, which is what I expected it to be like but it is really nothing like the movies that seem to have influenced it.

I don't go to the cinema hardly at all - maybe 3 times a year so never even considered this. Yesterday the wife says she wants to start going a bit more often (starting with the Avengers) so I went to buy 2 tickets. £20 - I couldn't believe it! Its £30 for both of us to have unlimited passes each month - absolute no brainer really. Will be ordering in a bit...
