Advent 4211 Wireless Network
on: August 28, 2009, 22:30:39 PM
Not an issue because i have solved it, but heres the story!

Went round to friends house because he couldnt connect to his 4211 to the BT Homehub.

I ran through all the settings, clicked "find networks" nothing happens, this was beginning to bug me, so i ran an ethernet cable to it and went on the internet to find what seemed to be solution, i.e. update the device driver.

Luckily before i did this, my friend pulled the setup instructions from the box, where earlier he said he had no paperwork, it turned out to activate the wireless card you had to press [FN] key + [F11] to turn the device on.

How bloody confusing? On the other laptops i have setup ive never had to do this, but im glad , i could have been there for hours  :w00t:

Most recent laptops have ways to turn on and off the wifi device, if only to save power. Some have seperate buttons and switches (usually in the worst positions) and some are now using function keys to do the job.

I still have problems with my old toshiba laptop though, the wireless decided when it wanted to see the network and connect. Every other device in the house works without a hitch but that thing just refuses to stay connected if it even finds the router.

I had a similar problem recently with the missus laptop, tried to connect it to a projector for a presentation, spent ages tossing around with the display properties and couldnt get a display.

A quick Google later and it simply required FN+F4.

Damn portable things, get a massive case, loads of fans, no problems. :)
