New phone
on: April 28, 2017, 18:30:26 PM
Finally upgraded from my ubercrap(TM) Nokia C2, cause I couldn't do anything except phone people with it.

Now got a fairly swanky (in comparison) sim free Moto G5. 13 megapixel camera, fingerprint recognition and touch screen.

Went back to 3 shop where I bought the Nokia, they cut down the sim for me, so still got old phone number and credit. :ptu:

I have managed to spend all of £2.20 in the last year on calls. Guess I need to spend more time getting ear cancer  :tinhat:

I've just switched to Plusnet £5 rolling SIM only, got a a refurb Nexus 5X for £130 and sold my old Nexus 5 for £100.

Wifi Calling, fingerprint recognition, latest Android etc, for £30, I'm laughing

Camera seems worse somehow but oh well, it's probably the dodgy 'HDR' mode it has on by default.

Quality frugality gents, mobile phone "improvements" have been a con for at least 5/6 years!

None of the CPUs have made worthwhile improvements, except in the case of AMD, which is more catching up than getting ahead. Mostly it's been small incremental bits added.

I bought a phone that is relatively cheap and has a decent camera. I don't get out much so a top phone on a contract would be a waste for me. I mostly use skype, facebook and e-mail.

Now all I have to do is work out how to use it ^_^

I went from an iPhone 4 to a 7 recently, the last one was good for 5 years or so, certainly didn't feel the need to upgrade, replaced the charging port once and fixed an issue with the power button... then the home button eventually went and I figured it was time to upgrade rather than try another fix as the phone itself was a bit sluggish with apps such as uber

Ive been getting slowly sucked into the apple ecosystem since work bought me an iphone.

There are a lot of annoyances but there are some big upsides if you have multiple devices.

Ive recently moved to Singapore and using facetime is so much easier, and to my surprise better quality, than using skype. Theres also some really slick photo sharing options for groups with iOS devices.

With age the freedom of customisation has fallen second to simplicity of use and interoperability, I couldnt give my grandmother an android and expect her to be able to video call me.
