[size=24]Nexus movies for 2008 [/size]
Note:
With the writers strike on and still going many movies have been delayed simply because the people who are doing them, the crew and actors will be delayed on current projects and so these need to be finished before the others of course.
As a result of all this some movies not yet started that could have been good will end up being rushed and as you know rushed means crap for the most part and some movies will be canned or just put on hold for a long time.
So some movies classed as 2008 may well be 2009 or not at all

One of the biggest stories is that we all knew it would happen but when and well IF was still in question due to the legal stuff but the Hobbit will be made.
Gandalf from lord of the rings movies will be the same actor same style. Bilbo Bagins will be a new casting, as he needs to be a lot younger.
This will be set over 2 movies and Peter Jackson will not be directing but producing this time but it will be the same teams working on it in the same locations as before (New Zealand) and you should have the same style and probable length to the movies

Right now, go see it its amazing
Its Tim Burton so it has that style you all know by now and it works with this story
Of course with Tim you have Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter Joins the cast and she again is brilliant as always. Theyre maxing up the goth-ness to true Edward Scissorhands proportions here as Depp tackles lethal barber Todd as his role and is just a really good movie (Yes it does have singing but works)

First thing is that the name of this movie is still a bit “hmmm” as it could be 1 of 2 or alternative names used in different parts of the world like die hard 4.0 was.
It could be John Rambo or could just be Rambo.
In Thailand, John Rambo (Stallone) assembles a group of mercenaries and leads them up the Salween River to a Burmese village where a group of Christian aid workers allegedly went missing
We have had a number of clips posted here and while yes he is really old it this movie removes the cheese from the latter Rambo movies and brings back Grit but has it over done it by masking a poor story in gore? Will have to see but it is one to go and watch

Small budget movie this one, it tells the story of a girl pregnant by a, well geek oddball of the area who does not want the kid and looks and then gives up the kid for adoption. Simple plot but the acting and scripting is very good, It is funny in NZ its been in cinemas early and I have already got to see it and its very good
Director Jason Reitman has proved that Thank You For Smoking was not a fluke. The movie is slow for some here but the way she tells her parents, deal with it, the manner she handles the whole thing and the people around her for a relatively small budget movie it is very good and will win awards and is already getting praise in the US.

There has not really been a western western for years not a proper one at that tombstone, young guns and others probably around that time were the last takes but not really true westerns of old. This is, well its 2008 so you got to think the style of today but a true western.
Set around turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business which means family, barren areas, growth, family and greed and the fight for it all. Daniel Day Lewis has apparently put in an Oscar nomination performance in this movie, So someone being talked about means the movie must be up there

I love the movie poster for this one, Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood is also back in it and was a big surprise announcement at least years comiccon apparently that she was going to be in it and I not seen here about for ages, apparently she has been MIA since 2004 but she is looking quite fit for her age tbh.
Lucas Has been on set putting in his input of course but he has written the story and has had it about for some time, SP directs

Stark is played by Robert Downey Jr. and in the trailer looks to be betraying a really good cocky and then tough Stark, which in the trailer I like.
This is going to be a big one of the year I think and really good from what I have seen/read
Every time I see stuff from it it just looks better, like the recent tv spot, will give dark knight a close run but not as good

Simple as that, this will be the movie of 2008, Batman begins not many people actually went to see because even despite people saying it was good they were thinking about the latter batman movies and even thought the first 2 batman movies were great with the style etc were too dark for some people and the bad guys to silly which is probably about right. So most only saw this on dvd (like nige who only just seen it himself) and people get supposed by Batman Begins it is actually a bloody good movie and really the real batman movie and how it should be with a great style and story and visual appearance And I think Christian Bale is great in his movies
Heath Ledger Plays the Joker and right the way people were going WTF? NO NO NO, all over the web and people has similar things said in past threads on this very forum. I though thought that the director and team of this movie are good stock and their casting bar Rachel doors first time round as spot on before so why would they make an error on a big role like this? I thought He must have pulled a complete u turn on his style of acting and put the effort in to do something special and from the trailer you can clearly see he has and many on the set’s for this movie says he is outshining batman himself and has become very hard to put the movie together to not over do his role but there was things said by fans on the site to the director etc not to ruin the film by dumming don the joker if this is the case and they saw this and kept it as is which is good news.
Heath Ledger Basically has the laugh and a good look and is going to be a great Joker. The Joker in this movie is the proper one the true dark nutter from the good comics and the batman cartoon where he is insane, looks like the joker But the Insane part is not silly or stupid or old and slow like in the first batman movie.
He is the real nemesis of batman.

EDIT: RIP Heath, Bloody doctor, Rumour is that for 2009 oscars he could be up for best supporting actor and get it hands down for his perfomance in this movie

Saw the trailer of this and linked it on msn to a few people this looks to be a surprisingly good movie
Basically a young guy who is a nobody but with the family history and the genes to basically be an amazing enforcer. It is basically an assassin in an old cult world with special powers (not over the top super sci-fi wise) basically quick, fast amazing shooter. When his dad dies he is taken into this new world by Jolie who teaches him the stuff and he picks it up and as always in these movies becomes the neo of the movie and of course gets the girl (jolie (lucky git) )
Not a great story etc but should be a nice action movie to go see

Not sure about this one, it has the nutter Tom cruise in an odd role Based on actual events with the plot to assassinate Hitler that went a bit wrong during WW2.
I am sure this big (to much_ budget) movie will have some sort of warped twist on the real life recorded goings on and I just feel this could be amazing since Bryan Singer is at the wheel but more likely over dramatised and false and over acted affair due to the big bucks being thrown at the movie
It has been filmed as much as possible in the actual locations things happened rather then trying to copy them which you have to give merit for tbh.

Only just started really, casting done with Daniel Craig who was a good gritty bond tbh was a nice change in the movie style for this movie series.

The basic plot seems that the movie is set after that of the last one with Bond trying to pick up the peaces of his girl betrayal and death etc Picking up the peaces, still a bit of a rouge in the agency and starts to care less for women and becomes the womeniser

I liked the first, missed it in the cinema. May not be a cinema film but I liked the first one. This one has the same style, same cast and basically the mythical world has had enough of us normals and normal earth and declares war and it is for the normals and the good mythical who like us normals and earth to save the day

It’s a pixar movie, no need to say anything about if its good enough, you have your favourite movies by them and an order of which you like best which differs from person to person on their own tastes but its Pixar, they do not go wrong.
While I would say I prefer older ones then some of the recent ones they are all still good.
Wall e is a rubbish robot, basically earth is a trash bin and robots are left on earth to clear up while we have all buggered off to the stars. He basically ends up being the only working one on the whole planet wishing he was up their in space and have people to interact with and it all kicks off from there. This was created in concept and plot right around the time of toy story and 2 etc and was planned before many of the other movies but since the main guys of pixar have had that hold from Disney on them other things came out before it.

May be a little slow or not the right sort of film for a fair few here but it is an award winning one
Plot:

The Fast and the Furious 4
Now this is 4 but it is basically 2, This is what number 2 should have been but people did not sign up and money was not right and the director not there and all that.
This will be basically as I said Number 2 and is set after the 2nd movie and before the 1st.
Brian (Paul Walker) is freed from prison (the authorities found out that he let Dominic played by Vin Diesel go at the end of the first film) to help the feds stop a heroin importer known as Braga. With the help of an informant named James Park, Brian – and ultimately Dominic Toretto – wins a place on the criminals team, where he – and his flashy Nissan plan to catch the man red-handed.
The release date is supposed to be June time But filming has only really started and with the strike on You can probably see this drop back to the end of the year or maybe early 2009.

Another June Release but may slip but has far more done to it then TFATF4 (the above movie)
This is not a sequel to the bit naff Hulk movie of a few years back, Movie folk taking on the marvel comic heroes and such have all learnt between them some lessons of recent years and taken them on board.
Spiderman pushes the comic style element without being too naff but it is borderline, Catwomen was just a waist of time and no one likes that so that style is out of the question. The Other hulk movie aimed to be a comic in video form and it did not work at all. Other Comic heroes that have had movies like batman begins have all gone for this realistic feel to it, not to crazy, cut out the really whacky elements of the comics and have all even by different people have this similar modern earthy style to them (superman returns is another example)
Ironman you can see from the trailer follows this same approach and this new movie is no different.

Punisher: War Zone
The squel to the fairly well received Punisher. Punisher was not a great success in the cinema but got a fairly big cult following when it hit the dvd and tv and has been enough to stem a new movie.
Cant see this being a watch bar when sky has it in a year or so tbh but its coming
Mid September is the estimated release
The basic plot is that the Punisher goes after another mob boss, does not kill him but leaves him in a bad way. The mod boss goes out for revenge and sets up a group to get revenge, with the FBI in the middle of it all basically leads to war as per the title.

The dark knight will do very well, people will love it and it will make a lot of money and will be great in hd at the home and The 3rd movie with the same cast will be announce later in the year for later 2009 Minus ledger of course now ?
Another superman movie with the same cast is in the works and while not a 2008 movie you should hear more about it this year with a 2009 release. Same cast but and director but promising more action and less love which put people off of superman returns.
Lost Movie:
Now this will either be a tv movie or if funding is there a full whack movie after season 4. It is expected 4 will not quite tie everything off but viewing figures will not be good enough to have a 5th series so everything will be tied off in movie form
Stargate movies:
As with lost but actually happening, Stargate season 10 ended and was canned by the network but the viewing figures were still very strong and the story not quite over.
Nevermind though because the stargate series has 3 dvd movies lined up.

Stargate 2
It was nearly up and running back in 2000-2001 But never happened
Now the end of last year had interesting news, The licence for Stargate is still open in regards to the first movie.
The series follows on from the original and great movie but goes off on a bit of a tv twist and is what it is today, great but not that of the movie.
There will be a squeal to the original movie which is trying to keep a number of the cast from this movie. Not much is known about this as fact but the aliens for example will not be the little worms and no one from the series will be in this and it will be a proper movie follow on.
So you got two stargate worlds / stories going on
Terminator 4
In Pre production and should start filming this year in full this is a follow on from number 3 and as yet still does not have arnie although there has been talk he still may yet pop up in a cameo role or at the very least is image will be used in regard to manufacture form of the terminators that are created.
This movie is from when the bombs have dropped and skynet takes over the world from the enslavement of the remaining humans to the war that follows.

Damian Lewis Plays a detective who was banged up for murder which he did not do. Locked up in a maximum security prison for ages and then found to be not guilty and complety let off and got a big massive settlement but wanted to be a cop again and so he is.
Seen a couple of episodes and I really like it and should be in the UK this year and more seasons of it to follow
You have the show as a crime solving affair but he is kweky and did a lot of reading locked up so knows strange things about the world or what to do and how to solve a crime with the added fact he is out of the times in terms of technology etc and while this is going on you see from the first episode that he suspects a big cover up within the police force and more over the murders he was framed for and tries to peace this together. The history of what happened to him is not shown at the start but unfolds during the show
New smallvile for season 7 has restarted, new Heroes will be good, new lost of course has just started, Heroes spin0off mini series
Mr and mrs smith the movie is not getting a sequel as yet but is getting a tv show spin off
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Had all the cards of being crap and the female terminator saviour is a bit of a cringe job even still but the pilot was good. The concern then is the budget not given to the series there after but in fact people who have seen this are giving this the thumbs up. It wont have the legs of say star trek but should be a battlestar / lost 4 seasons and end at the right time and not over do it.
Things need to grow up fast in this regard but when everyone making it and actors settle as long as it has a sustainable plot should be good

2nd stargate FILM continuing from the 1st with kurt Russle already agreed to do it, script was done in 2001-2 but it did not happen then but will do now, I will pull up the link for you
The other two are the TV movies
One to finish up the Bol saga and the other to wrap up the ori and one next year the people have signed up for but not announced what that is, If not asked to do another series (which all the actors said they would do if it did already) at some point, more DVD / TV stargate series movies will follow
Jumper should be one of those relative small movie flicks you watch and quite like and enjoy and buy on DVD but not one of your top films but you watch now and again when you own it, and some will hate it looking for a deeper story (the ones who do not take movies for what they are)

Star Trek update added - pushed back to May 2009
As a result of the writers strike TV shows are behind and some that were going to be shorter series as well as not happening at all are all going to be full blown again so things are ramping up not down as a result of the strike now things are sorted, as such some movies are being delayed by the big movie companies as a result

I mean how cool and crazy is that for a concept, lol. His now indestructible heart taken by a 100 year old baddy replacing it with a heart that needs jolts and Statham trying to get his hear back and on the way trying to get jacked short circuit style along the way

Looks great, but what the hell is going on what that CGI? It looks atrocious, especially compared to the first film (I havent seen the second and hopefully will never have to, it sounds like a bit of a stinker from what I can gather).
Edit : Straight to DVD from a writer turned director, nuff said. Best avoid this one as well I think.

Any one looking to go to the cinema this week I do thoroughly reccomend either Son Of Rambo or In Bruge. Both are top notch films.
With Son Of Rambo I had to ask and make sure what my mate thought it was before we went to see it.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are both expected back on voicing duties. It’ll be out in 2010. IT MAY be straight to DVD as it seems not the main Pixar team is doing it, what is happening at Pixar these days is they have bought and created a number of small spin off studios where they plan to delegate jobs for TV shows and sequels to some of their movie concepts. I hope they do the full hog.

Ive been following the sequel to Descent 2 for some time now as I loved the original film, and Im not too sure itll live up to the original. Apparently its going to pick up from where the US release left off, not the proper British release (the British release had Sarah escape the cave, then receive a scare and she wakes up back in the cave, the US release ends with the scare so she has escaped). So for those of us that know and love the UK version its going to be a tad confusing. That said Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza are back on board so at least they are keeping the cast consistent, hopefully itll be pleasantly surprising.

I Have High hopes of the new movies tbh, No arnie to tie you down bar a possible cameo role be it live or CG form to tie up the story and possible Reace as well But you Have a decent actor in the lead and a good lore with the war and skynet and the rebellion.
