OnLive - Anyone tried this yet?

There was very little point in it, people have invested in computers already so that would just duplicate what they already have.

Most graphics and other game processing can be done more effectively locally. That leaves processing movements, actions, NPC decisions and working out the result to the server. - a far lower data transfer is required and is a more suitable workload division.
there was a massive point in it.

Massive cost of upgrading hardware every year to play the latest games or...

Pay a subscription, play whatever games you want for as long as you want, using nothing more than a raspberry PI.

That's about as massive a point to it as it could possibly have.

Just a shame Internet service providers aren't up with the times, just like movie providers are bitching about high data usage, yet are punting the latest smartphones out on cheaper and cheaper deals. The data transit industry needs a kick up the arse.

Indeed the idea was sound. Add in the fact as I said in my last post being able to play these games from anywhere just using your mobile device (with HDMI out if  you want it on a big screen).

Microsoft looking to grab the onlive guys to work with them on Xbox/Kinect stuff... could lead to good things with M$'s backing... or be a flop but wouldn't really effect any of us so I go with winwin.

Microsoft courts OnLive developers for Xbox and Kinect projects

I got an email yesterday morning saying there was a big OnLive sale!

Yeah, right.  I'm not touching that.  I was planning on getting a box a couple of months ago...glad I didn't.
