Title: OUYA - A new console aimed at developers
Post by: Leon on July 11, 2012, 13:28:38 PM
Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console) - Appeared on kickstarter yesterday and already has raised $2.5million

It's an interesting idea... create a cheap opensource android console (quadcore tegra 3) where small developers can get their games out into the console world without a huge overheads required at the moment (for XBLA etc) or being PC exclusive.

The idea is majority of games will be F2P or at least cheap and probably try and get noticed by the big boys who will throw money at them ;)

I think this is a fantastic idea too actually, it's not something I'd jump straight on board with but if I had the time as a gamer I would be very interested in something like this.

One major flaw, a console designed to be modded at home, so what happens with multiplayer games, i can see this erupting into a /facepalm moment.

She used the works hackers which made everything instantly think "OMG MY GAME WILL BE FULL OF CHEATERS" but she is only talking about rooting and sticking a custom rom on the hardware. The games will still either be as closed and the devs want and it will be up to them to deal with cheats etc.

Just been reading the updates on this...

$8.5m raised out of a $950,000 goal. Nice!

Loads of devs have backed it, lots of community ideas coming together. XBMC officially getting their android client on it, OnLive! (hahahahaha) on it, TwitchTV for gaming streams.

I would defiantly pick one up if I wasn't leaving again... even if the game side of things sucked in the end for £75 inc del it would still make a great XBMC media box ;)
