Iphone 5s?

I'd probably go for the SE if sticking with iphone

If you're already tied into the Apple ecosystem (paid apps etc) then it doesn't make much sense to swap.

not many paid apps tbh... I've got vice city and that is about it in terms of paid for games. Not sure if whatsapp messages are stored in the cloud (I get the impression they might be), but yeah another iphone might be easier in terms of migration of SMS messages, contacts etc.. fairly easily via itunes

Has anyone here moved from iPhone to android? I have an iPhone and an android tablet, would like to know if anyone has moved to a high end android device, I need a device that isn't buggy and does what it should when it should, don't want to root it or fanny around with it, I just want a phone that works and allows me to browse the Internet, I've stuck to iPhone previously as it just works, but wondering if the bugs have been ironed out of Android now..

Essentially I'm moving to iPhone as I've had my fun messing around with Android, customising things etc, but now I find myself busier with more important things to do than root a phone and set it up just right (only for the phone to randomly reset itself, losing the many customisations) etc. I'll be using it for more than just browsing the internet, but expect that for the most part, the apps, albeit being more expensive/not free, will run better and more stable on iOS. Or that's the hope at any rate.

Depends on the Android phone essentially.

If you think you can pick up a £100 POS and think it will perform as well as an iPhone, you're mistaken.
Android phones aren't cheap alternatives.  Get one with the right spec and minimal vendor f**kwittery (Sense, Touchwiz etc) and you're golden.
Look at the LG V20, Motorola X, Huawei P9 etc.  Anything Nexus too and you'll get a great experience from the phone.

I had an iPhone 5 for work and hated it.  Used to forward the calls to my Nexus 6.  Wife had a Moto G and it was terrible.  Not enough ram and poor amounts of storage space meant it always ran out.  Moving apps to the SD card doesn't work as well as it could due to the differences in speed between internal and expansion storage.

Yep, you might expect it but don't depend on it. Quite often the free apps are just as good and sometimes better than the pay for ones. There have also been a few pay for apps that have come loaded with spyware and viruses - even with apple stuff.

Another shout out for the OnePlus 3. Slimline, no bloat Marshmallow Android 6. Doesn't need to be rooted, not a single bug or problem with it since buying it. Super powerful(Faster than iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S7), 6GB RAM, 64GB storage. Lasts well over a day on a charge for me. Will charge 60% in half an hour. Looks great too.

£330~

I'm tempted by the sony z5 compact, it seems to come close on my priority areas of camera, battery life and size. Oh and it's waterproof too it seems.

Anyone had experience with these?

I've been looking at that one too...

I don't really care about phone power/apps (naff all installed)

but I hate big phones... I've been using origonal gen1 Motorola Moto G phones for years... must have broken about 10 of them and keep buying replacments... but gen1 is hard to find now... gen 2, 3 and 4 are all faster, more ram etc. but they're bigger too!

(~4.5inch screen size max for me!)

edit:

Xperia X Compact is practically the same phone, but 3gig ram instead of 2?

X compact has a slightly slower CPU I think (I read the Z is prone to overheating) either way both contenders.

Ah, the X compact doesn't look to be waterproof or able to record in 4k video. It's billed as "upper midrange" it seems :-X

October 4th Google will be announcing their new flagship phone, so probably worth holding off a little longer

Am I the only one to be suspicious of Google? Then again I'm suspicious of Amazon, Microsoft, Apple....  :tinhat:

I have GMail, I use Chrome, I have an android tablet and potentially want Google Home, if they want to farm all my info and give me some good services for free then I'm happy to give it to them, I'm also on Facebook which is probably just as bad, as long as I don't end up out of pocket or in jail I'll whore my online presence out, most of it is just watching cat videos anyway!

That's the whole point, they aren't 'free', google wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't possible for them to make a profit out of your information.

And not just yours, big data is worth big money.
