Quite a few reviewers didn't like it. I've heard unhappy mumblings from others too.

Saw this at the weekend and all of the below will spoil the film for you:
(click to show/hide)

Colonial Marines:

From that video it looked really rigid and awkward? The gun wasn't moving as the person walked around, last time I saw that was in the original Doom!

As for the rest of it, it needs to live up to Aliens vs Predator and the tension and atmosphere that gave you, many nights in a dark room with surround sound and sh*tting myself! (the original game not AVP2 as that just didn't get the right atmosphere or lighting)

I'll certainly give it a go, but AVP 1 multiplayer was friggin awesome :)

Game is still over a year away and footage is prob alpha, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to stuff like that (for the moment anyway)

Have just got back from finally going to see this movie - involved what can best be described as socially unacceptable 'LARPing' (a few pics below)

Few things that bugged me - the two numpty geologists who got lost then had a particularly cringe worthy encounter with the snake like creature...

The geologist guy who was seemingly dead after the snake like creature melted his helmet... yet came back in psycho mode, seemingly possessed/controlled/reanimated by something - not real explanation/insight into why/how....

Female captain agrees to bang ship's pilot in her cabin in 10 mins - I can't believe they'd have written in a potential Charlie Theron sex scene and not shot it - hopefully it will be included in one of the 5 or so different director's cuts that will inevitably appear over the next decade.

No proper explanation of why the robot David poisoned Chris with a drop of alien 'stuff'... didn't necessarily fit with the hidden agenda of getting the boss there to meet the engineers/prevent death....

Expensive surgical machine in the female captain's seperate part of the ship configured to operate on males (couldn't do a Cesarian) - was this a hint that it wasn't there for her, was there for someone else... the extra person robot David was talking to... ah yeah the supposedly dead boss...

Anyway - the ship was a warehouse in London - parts of it played homage more to Aliens... had Aliens background sounds/music... loads of extras/actors walking about in character - was quite surreal...

orbiting LV - 223

in the ships loading bay the had the vehicles as used in the film (they had the two buggies too)

tried to get inside the vehicle.. wasn't allowed...

after exploring a bit an alarm sounded - all screens went red... evacuated the ship - went into screening room to see Ridley Scott appear on screen also playing along in character...then film started.

That's pretty awesome Dave, how did you get to go to that, was it some sort of special screening?

its 'secret cinema' - they give you meeting place & time, dress code etc.. (though this time we had to buy costumes and were assigned roles for the 'mission') then you get lead to the location.

Was quite funny with this one - bunch of people turning up outside Euston station wearing boiler suits/chemical suits etc... various people asking what's going on (not helped by the fact there had been an accident in the road further along and lots of police about)... after about the third time I jokingly told one lady who asked 'what are you lot all doing here?' that there had been a chemical spill - we've not announced it yet as we don't want to cause panic but we're going to close off this area I suggest you get on your train quickly....  :muttley:

Anyway some actor types in character then arrived and lead us off to the location - you don't actually find out what the film is until it starts, tis supposed to be kept secret* though obviously there are lots of hints at what it is as you explore the location (rather blatant hints on this occasion)... had already heard a rumour that they were doing Prometheus - they usually do old classics and the previous two have been slightly more obscure (but still very good - red shoes and battle of Algiers (for which they'd converted some tunnels under Waterloo station into north africa).

I think when they previously did blade runner Ridley Scott actually made a personal appearance to introduce the film - was quite cool to see his per-recorded introduction for this one and nice that they had sourced the props/vehicles etc... too.

*((though I guess there isn't any harm posting on here as we're a low volume forum and the last showing is tomorrow))

Finally watched this yesterday.

Mixed feelings.

I'd like to think I wasn't expecting Alien 5. Best way to sum up my feelings is when we left and I was asked what I thought, my answer was "I don't know, I need to digest it". I didn't leave feeling blown away or anything. I wasn't disappointed though either.

Spoilers below...

Things that I thought were good

On the whole, I liked the characters, the ambiguousness of David I think, on reflection, is pretty excellent. He's in the middle, he's not Ash, he's not Bishop. He could be either or both.

The aesthetics, pretty breathtaking

The story, as a whole.

Things that I thought were bad, and bug me.
I found that the film flowed badly. Pretty much I think/feel that they must have filmed a lot more and cut out a lot of bits. Examples would be the (lack of) transition between finding the cave painting and the Prometheous arriving at its destination. The Captains two henchman being so "whatever" regarding their suicide run. The captain somehow coming up with the theory of bioweapons for killing humans despite never leaving the bridge. Vickers and her relationship to her father. Dealing with the dead (Admittedly whent he sh*t hits the fan, it does so all at once so no real time to do it). Though I'd have thought they'd want to analyse the zombie geologist before sending Weyland out...

Space Jesus....

The more you look at it actually, the Captain did sweet FA and was token black man for the film, they could have made a lot more of his role.

It would be interesting if they did something with Vickers character, make her an android afterall, but one that didn't know about it.
