I like the controller LEDS telling you which pad youve got.

And NO HDMI on the base model. Or wireless. So that will be a £350 console that you wont even be able to use to play Bluray movies.

£399 minimum, £425 is the most common said figure

£425 is for the top model, ie $599

No hdmi does not mean no bluray movies, it means no hdmi connection.  It will be akin to comparing composite video and rgb scart.  the picture quality wont be as good

teee heehehe, stolen from the 360 but not a stylishly done imo.

I was saying on another forum that I am quite pleased the 360 came out first and that I chose to buy it. I was pondering getting a PS2 on the cheap and waiting for the PS3 but now, reading all these E3 reviews and tit-bits, I am glad I just got straight in with the 360.

Worse case, I have to go out and buy a standalone bluray/HD-DVD player...which I was planning on dooing anyway !

I dont think blu-ray will take off tbh.

Youll need a seperate player to play all your old DVDs whereas a HD-DVD player is backwards compatable.

Sorry sony, looks like your going to lose another format war.

Yeah, I am almost convinced of that too tbh.

Although bluray might stick around for PC use, I think it is going to struggle to become the distributors format of choice because of the additional cost of manufacturing bluray over HD-DVD.

It has a future guaranteed in the short term.  All PS3 games will be in Blue Ray and serveral Film Studios and Game Developers such as EA have allready given Blue Ray the thumbs up.

That is the only thing that is really going to push Blueray sales and market penetration, the PS3.  I have to say, apart from Serenity, Blueray has the more appealing initial line up of hi-def movies.  A shame the cases for both types insist of the bulbous top to the cases, meaning they dont fit in standard DVD racks (from what I have read).

I expect HD addon for the 360 would be price at $199.  They have to price it so a Premium + HD will cost the same or less than the entry level PS3 in my opinion.  Any more, then you may as well go for the PS3 if you want HD content as well as a games machine.

M$ also said that if BlueRay takes off and HD-DVD dies (which they believe wont happen) they can just release a blueray expansion for the 360 :)

They wont make as much money if their format does not become the defacto standard.

I thought the PS3 was backwards compatible with PS2 and PS so that should mean it can play DVDs. I dont really know much about this but my friend did paste this to me

The main advantage of the Panasonic chip is that, as well as offering Blu-ray read and write support, it is backwards-compatible with CD and DVD reading and writing. This allows optical drive manufacturers to offer consumers a single solution for all their disc format needs.
