Software RAID / DrivePooling
on: August 18, 2014, 12:03:41 PM
Hey All,

Anyone using any software RAID / drive pooling software? Ive for a Windows Server 2008 R2 microserver (non negotiable, sorry, no linux) which Ive just bought 2 x 4Tb WD Reds to add to my existing 2 x 2Tb Seagate.

I want some form of non-destructive software RAID which leaves me as much space as possible while being protected from a single drive failure. Currently looking at Stablebit Drivepool or FlexRAID as a solution.

Any thoughts?

Windows has built in support for mirroring. You can set up a mirrored array in Drive management

I did not know that. I'll take a look.

I find the flexibility of being able to add all of my drives (2 x 4, 2 x 2) to a single "RAID" volume very appealing, especially it if allows me to use more space.

Windows however doesn't notify you if things go tits up with a drive which is ridiculous!
