Title: Redesigned Xbox360
Post by: soopahfly on June 14, 2010, 21:19:25 PM
Looks like an Elite thats been left in the sun imo... but Ill wait until I see one in the flesh.
Quieter would be nice, but dont want/need 802.11n or a 250gb drive, got one already....

Ok thats strange, I was thinking yesterday about the Natal, and thought I might get another XBox when it comes out and thought its be good if they released an XBox Slim, but then thought MS wouldnt bother!

So long as its not prohibively expensive, I think Ill be getting one to replace my 1st gen xbox with the tiny hdd. You guys with loads of space have it lucky ><

Same price as a current 360 at $299.99, whether that translates to the same price as the current 360 here, who knows.

Who really cares how big it is? Its not a cell phone.

Im more interested in what it can do, not how much spare under my desk it doesnt take up.

Ah, guess that was just a rumour then. Looks like theyre stopping production of the older 360s though, so Ill eventually upgrade when I get another RROD.

No doubt $299 = £299  :disappointed:

If the specs the same just smaller Ill wait and see. Either itll not be stupidly priced (Like PS3 price) and Ill upgrade to one, or Ill get one of the older elites when they crash in price.

Think Ill get one of these since Im still on a screaming fan, 20Gb, no HDMI first gen.

Sam, I care about the size because I have limited room left in my av rack, what with the amp, Sky HD box, Blu-Ray, AppleTV and Wii. Plus, everything else is black and silver, so this will help with the colour scheme.

Finally, theyve separated the optical out from the rest of the av, so you can connect it to your amp without having to by some stupidly expensive microsoft-optical-breakout-cable thing.

As far as I am aware though, you still cannot plug and play movies, music and pics from external HDs with an X-Box. Correct me if i am wrong though...

Things the ps3 can be used for:
1) gaming (my personal favourite)
2) blurays
3) music
4) HD movies/TV shows saved on USB storage devices
5) bbc iplayer and internet video streams...
6) Tivo - using the playstation digital TV box (I think it is called play?)

Anyone willing to match that list with some X-Box features?

Thanks Soopah

Room heater eh?

I think you just put that in so the XBox would have 1 more feature than PS3...  :disappointed:

PS3 features, you missed Remote Play ;)

Good luck with getting it then. I would personally have waited, the pre-order discounts wont be as good as Bundles on friday, on top of that i heard rumour that sainsburys will be doing a 1 day release day special price to compete with the fact that Tescos are going to start a price war.

Ive been telling all my mates to wait until Friday, also ive been telling to wait if they want the old 360s too, i have read that many stores are returning old units to MS but the issue is what does MS do with them all, i can see the older units getting another price reduction, Amazon have been doing them for £150, if they bring the Elite down further it will be great, it will also effect the used market pricing (i hope) bringing those consoles on Ebay down in price, you can currently pick up a Jasper revision for £100 2nd hand, ranging from a couple to 6 months old unit.

Meh, youre talking to someone who is still using a 1st gen xbox and buys a single new game a year, the rest are always sub £20. I think I can afford to not save £20 on a bundle by pre-ordering it. Havent you owned several xboxes over the years now?

It will no doubt arrive tomorrow if I go out, and Thurs if I stay in tomorrow. I find it odd that I have received a tracking number for a £30 computer component, but the £100 speakers and the £200 xbox dont.

With the above, the speakers arrived at 2pm the day after they were sent via sh*ttylink (sort of, I wasnt in as I didnt have a tracking number to know whether to expect them), whilst the component, which was royal fail and sent a day later, took an extra day. At least when the speakers were a failed delivery the card then had a tracking number on them ><

My 5th one will be the next one i think. Its ok though i always buy the bundles and end up selling without losing out. I dont generally just save £20, i saved a fair bit more last time, somewhere in the region of £50 on one bundle.

I tried to do that with the PSP when I got it yonk ago, had the brainwave to sell the games that i didnt want....sadly everyone else had the same idea meaning the games were next to worthless.

Still waiting for delivery...I managed to find things to do for work at home so not too bad. Kinda good as I wonder how much work Ill get done when it arrives.

It works best if you have a CEX store near you! Failing that get the games listed in your local paper/ on their site and on Gumtree the day they release, all ways to sell without losing commission fee.

Think my nearest CEX store is Soton, which is maybe £20 in petrol and parking right there and then. And for the hassle and time involved in listing in papers or gumtree, having to post  etc Im happy just paying my money and being done with it all :)

You dont post if its on Gumtree or Local Papers, because uh your selling local :P so people tend to pop round and collect.

Still hassle though innit :P Plus nothing says "I have a shiny new xbox - come steal me" more than listing the bundled games for sale ><

I ended up chucking in "GTA:Liberty City Stories" after the auctions closed in the PSP I ended up listing on ebay as I just couldnt be assed listing it on its own.

Its arrived at 5:45, and already has a taste for human flesh (I got a cardboard cut on the packaging ><)

I think Slim is an overstatment tbh, but it is quiet :D, makes near the same amount of noise as the DVR/DVD player, as opposed to sounding like a hairdryer.

Title: Re:Redesigned Xbox360

So do I tbh. The only reason I ended up getting one is the fact that the xbox in the household is actually my dads, is old and knackered, and has such a limited capacity that I cant get any more DLC without deleting stuff already, additionally the Wireless G adaptor for the old xbox doesnt work very well upstairs meaning I cant get on live. Ive been meaning to get an elite for ages so in the end when this came along I might as well take the plunge :)

Picked one up because Im still on a 20Gb premium. Running out of space, sounds like a jet fighter, no HDMI is a pain and all my other AV stuff is black (except the Wii, might need to swap that out too).

I find it slightly bizarre that the cable that comes with it is more basic (AV) than the cable that came with the original 20gb xbox (composite/AV). I guess by getting rid of the memory cards they need to get their accessory profit from somewhere ><

Dont worry they still have to charge heavily for Kinect, and dont forget the fact that the new hdds are completely different fit to the old ones :P. At least they gave you a free transfer cable didnt they? :P

Tbh i bought a 60GB on wednesday for £60, and im not sure if ill buy a new one, my plan was to wait for the Elites to drop in price and pick one of those up.

No transfer cable. It doesnt matter really if you have a decent sized USB memory stick. Sure it might be a couple of extra steps but I had everything from the 20gb hdd and memory card transferred onto the USB stick and onto the new xbox by the time Id done a bit of tidying and cooking :)

Im confused why they call it "Kinect ready", arent all the xboxs kinect ready, or will the oldest ones not run it?

Only the latest ones have a "Kinect Port" as far as i understand.

The new one can power the Kinect directly, the older ones will need the Kinect plugged into the mains as well as the Xbox.

As I say, its no biggy. How many people out there that own an old xbox and are buying the slim, which is marketed on the grounds of it also having more usb ports, are NOT going to have a few USB memory sticks lying around?

I guess if the people have an elite or something with a big HDD already theyll have to do several "trips" between units, I was lucky in that my "20gb" hdd is really only 13gb, and my memory stick was 8gb, so I could transfer everything in one go, leaving burnout for another trip.

You would be surprised the amount of people selling off elites to buy the new version of the 360, just keep an eye on Ebay and local papers theres loads going up for sale with the reason: Selling because buying the new xbox.
