External Raid HD
on: December 25, 2010, 12:54:00 PM
Home with the parents, and I setup years ago a server which took a backup from the main machine each night. As contains a lot of business info.

This is now finally dead, so Im going to set them up with an external RAID HD.

Now Im using a WD MyBook Mirror, and havent had any issues yet, but does anyone have any experience of raid external HDs, either NAS or USB2.

NAS will be more separated in case of virus, but USB will be cheaper and a lot faster..

Suggestions please, budget up to £200 ish? Doesnt need to have a lot of space

Actually raid might be a bit over kill, as data will be on the system as well, so looking for a reliable external USB? or Caddy / HD combo?

why not look at an online backup solution?
Virgin Media gives a backup/recovery storage for free

or maybe look at live drive which is more of a premium service

whatever you get, make sure it has a fan cooling it, usb hard drives have a tendency to overheat and die with a bit of use.... :(

Use the MyBook mirror edition at work for various duties - very reliable to be fair.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!
