Rubbish new PC
on: August 02, 2016, 07:35:59 AM
Hi Guys,

My PC recently died, and I was too lazy to try to find what failed, so just bought a pre-made one from eBuyer - which is the first time I've ever bought one I think, I've always made them myself.

I wasn't too fussed on the spec, as I literally use it for the internet and browsing - so bought this, as it seemed an OK price: http://www.ebuyer.com/735891-zoostorm-quest-gaming-desktop-pc-7260-5189

When I first used it, it was totally turd - then realised I hadn't installed any drivers  After that, it was a lot better, but when in Chrome, everything is quite juddery while scrolling, and the mouse pointer is hard to keep track of, as it seemed to disappear if that makes sense.

I'm also making my way through all the Command & Conquer catalogue (£5.99 from Origin), and that plays fine - which I expect it would for being 20 years old  But I'd also think that Chrome wouldn't be pushing the boundaries either?

Any pointers to improve?

Cheers

See if turning on/off smooth scrolling makes any difference in the settings, there might also be a 'use GPU acceleration' type setting somewhere. You are right overall, it shouldn't be sluggish doing anything web based, unless your HDD is thrashing. How much RAM does it have?

Try Firefox? And as Nige said turn off GPU acceleration that can cause some issues.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I want to keep chrome really, as I use the same account on a few different PCs - although I am sure Firefox does that too!

Yesterday the mouse completely stopped working, so I changed USB ports for the wireless transmitter, and it's actually working spot on now  I've never had a dodgy usb port before, but there you go :)

Cheers guys

Make sure that the USB works properly, if it's faulty take it back and get a repair/replacement.
