Title: somthing is overheating
Post by: Eggtastico on July 04, 2008, 12:08:21 PM
& causing my computer to switch off & I aint got a clue what it is.

Any temp monitoring s/ware around that will create a logfile?
I have speedfan installed
(http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/2987/tempuh5.jpg)

I have no idea what Temp 3 is.

Coretemp should do the trick for the cpu temp...dunno about the rest. Just remember that it overestimates temperatures by about 5 degrees compared to mobo bundles.

I got a feeling that temp 3 could be the northbridge, as mine tends to run warm. No idea how to fix it without adding a fan tho.

Thats the thing.. I also have an asus board with no fan. Find it strange the top of the line asus board has no cooling, but their heat pipe instead.

This is somthing that has only started in the last week as well. Been running without any problems before then. I even had 6 hard drives installed, but have
pulled all those out (well 4 of them) to try & solve the issue.

I dont use a case lid, but now have a Deskfan setup in front of it & its stable.

Temp 3 could be GPU.
Those temps look ok to me.
Check memory is not giving errors.

I think its designed so the cpu fan cools it.
The bottem 3 fins on mine are angled down to blow air on the heatpipe fins.

Looking at your voltages your 12v, 5v and 3.3v lines look a little low…is the screenie from when you had 6 hard drives installed?
has the figures changed at all since you took the 4 out? double check in Bios as hardware monitoring software is sometimes a bit out.

Could be if the PSU checks out that you need a bit more case cooling, seeing its stable with the deskfan cooling it. :)

It deff needs more cooling, but where! hehe - the pic was taken with the drives out.
Its quite odd as it may only cut out once during the day then work fine - and as of yet
it hasnt cut out when playing wow - it usually happens when just browsing the internet.

Suppose I need to give it a bit of clearout, re-goop the CPU & sneak in extra case fan
somwhere!
