Sony Subwoofer knacked

Eagle:
Bl**dy cheap sh*t Sony soundbar.
I knew I shouldn't have listened to the missus.  Buy cheap, buy twice I said.  It'll be fine she said.

Sony HT-CT290 Soundbar itself is fine but the sub's gone.  Dead.  Kaput.  Seems it's common for it to go belly up after 14 months or so and of course it's out of warranty.

Any recommendations for a Bluetooth sub that'll work with the soundbar or will I need to buy a Sony compatible one?  Seems I can't just buy the sub on its own.  Quelle surprise.

I *could* add a spare Hi-Fi amp to power a standalone speaker but would using that deactivate the soundbar?  And of course there's the issue of simultaneous volume control...

Grrr.

How are you all anyway?  :D

They normally are tied together and already have the bluetooth sync code locked in so you cant just put something else in place so when one bit goes its all pretty useless.
14 Months seems to be the running trend on nearly everything to break. One good thing in Australia is the fit for use law which basically covers 2 years - An item has to be fit for purpose within that period. So many store staff or companies will try to blank you or play dumb when you ever mention it but they all know it exists. I have mice posted in the post and still have the old one (broken of course) and just the proof of purchase sent etc.

Anyway...
I think your on for a replacement so it will be on what budget you have :(

What is your budget, I am taking it you need wireless?

They will be tied together so you're unlikely to get a replacement and the cost of a Sony Centre repair will be more than its worth. Use it as an excuse to upgrade to something a bit better!

I try and buy from John Lewis, at least you get a 2 year warranty as standard to mitigate everything being modern toss with a lifespan of 12 seconds :gag:

Can you not dismantle the sub, surely underneath the gadgets it has a speaker somewhere you can just replace? TBH given the use case if it's got any crap solder joints (most modern tech does :tinhat:) it'll rattle loose, worth checking maybe, depends if you cba.

Or Richer Sounds, 6 year warranty (and generally keen pricing). You can also go in and demo if you have one local.
