i think all of that is optional.... i know monsters can be turned on/off at the server end

(or by players with privileges.... so everyone here ;) )

trees can be set to grow or not grow too :-o

I dont like the idea of removing the monsters/mining aspects of the game, I think it would get dull.

Plus I like the idea of players working together by performing different tasks, eg maybe we want to build a castle which needs a lot of stone so Zpyder starts building the walls while I go down the mine to get more stone or whatever.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking yesterday when I delved into online stuff and found this out. Maybe what I was reading was a few weeks old and back then you were invincible and monsters didnt exist etc.

At least on the plus side, if it doesnt work the way we want now, it probably will in the near future :D You can also load up / import single player maps I think.

Perhaps until the single player experience we know is available in multiplayer we focus on our single player creations. Then once its usable properly we can import our worlds, explore them, maybe choose one to build upon?

I dont think well have to wait long, it seems Multiplayer survival mode is basically the only stumbling block for the game going to beta status from what Ive read.

So the server is up. Here are 3 screenshot giving an almost 360 view of the spawn point. To start with I had mixed feelings, but I think this can work. We can easily make this island a bit bigger and "safe" as an island fort. And then from here we should be able to dig some undersea tunnels or bridges onto the land for other projects. There appears to be a number of good sized hills in the distance too. Thoughts?

Some good hills over there.

I dont think monsters spawn within a certain distance of the player, so having the spawn point on an island is pretty good as it gives you a natural defence between you and any potential spawn points.

As you say, we can mine out some stone and expand the island to make a proper fort if we want to. The most obvious first problem is going to be coal for torches.

I suggest that hill in the middle distance as a likely spot to find some close to the surface.

As an OP you can move the spawn point. When were on tonight we can decide on locations. Im tempted to make the hill the spawn point/base camp tbh, but exploration is needed.

My computer really didnt like "Far" draw distance, but normal is fine.

So as there seems to be a block on construction too near the spawn point, Ive offset a bit and started to lay the groundwork of a much larger basecamp than originally planned. See below.

Starting out, 5 mins in. There was a sand dune mixed with earth that needed levelling. The lit up bit to the right is "the mine" where I am getting the rock (and some coal and iron from)

Nearly levelled, just a little bit in the distance

Same time but from up on the mountaintop.

Finished levelling it.

Im having a break for dinner now, back in an hour. The plan though is to remove all the sand and have a 100% cobblestone floor. There are chests along one side of the wall now that are for wood, stone, metal and tools. Ill expand upon this later, I just made them to offload my inventory. There is also a cave in the area which Ive pegged out, Ive not gone down there yet but I wont block it in, though I might tidy up the entrance.

I got the foundation sorted...

As well as the walls....

We have rooms full of furnaces and work benches, and 10+ double chests for different materials.

We also have a mega shaft of penetration

I had some help too...Knighty is helping enlarge my shaft.

lol..... how come my guy looks so dirty standing in the corner bashing it out ?

p.s. the ceiling is almost done.... Ive had to stop for it a bit... it was making me dizzy :o

I found some coal down the shaft, but not much, only 12, its just inside the door on the right ;)

we need more lights, and more windows, its starting to get dark in there !

also the stairs should be near the corner / side somewhere and twice as wide ?

p.s. if anyone wants to use my login for a bit to test it out just pm me ;)

its a million times better multiplayer ;)

finished the 1st floor, and did half the wall for the 2nd floor

had a few ods and sods, some coal I think?  left it in the tools chest for now because I didnt know what to do with it

is glass hard to make ? we need loads more windows !

more lights too..... handy to hang a block down from the roof and stick a torch on each corner of it for the places the ones around the walls dont reach :-)
