is glass hard to make ? we need loads more windows !

more lights too..... handy to hang a block down from the roof and stick a torch on each corner of it for the places the ones around the walls dont reach :-)

Glass is easy, just stick some sand and something which burns in a furnace and wander off and make a cuppa. Coal is the best fuel but anything wooden will also work, off the top of my head the efficiency goes something like

buckets of lava>coal>planks>logs>sticks

apparently buckets of lava burn for ages, but you lose the bucket.

Is it worth putting the server IP public or are we likely to end up with griefers?

Id have thought were better off keeping it to ourselves, otherwise well just end up with some troll breaking things while none of us is online.

I finally managed to log in and have a bit of a look round just before I left for work this morning. Looking pretty good so far! I didnt do much except clear the leafs from a few trees which were hanging about and plant the resulting saplings so we dont run out of nearby wood.

the lack of danger is a bit disapointing, are monsters and damage server side controls or are they just not implimented in multiplayer yet?

Well done getting the server going Knighty!

I was thinking the same about monsters..... its a bit to easy without them ?

Ill re-enable them tonight as long as no-one objects :-)

I thought we could password protect the server? Then it wont matter if people see the IP?

Even if we have monsters in game, damage doesnt work yet so I think theyll be a nuisance that cant hurt us and that we cant kill.

if the combat isnt working yet then I agree Monsters would just be annoying. Fingers crossed Notch gets that one sorted out soon!

Actually thinking about it if you cant kill them then Creepers would be a real PITA, constantly blowing things up!

Tbh itll be a laugh build the camp up and making traps that *should* work and waiting to see if they work.

Having said they cant die I am pretty sure they can still drown and burn in lava.

just dumped a load of stone into the stone chest

(gtg now)

the more time I spend in the pit of doom, the more I think we should have built an underground base !

anyone playing, when you leave can you tun the save-all command

press t to talk
then type      /save-all
then hit return

saves everything incase the server crashes, powercut etc...
(it already auto saves, but Im not sure how oftern)

In my SP game Ive gone through 3 bases at this point, my original minehead, one in a particularly cool looking rocky overhang and now the sky-fortress.

no reason we cant move on from our current base (I say our as if Ive done anything to help build it! will hopefully get the chance to rectify that soon) to something else at a later stage.

Ive seen chickens and pigs flap about in the sea and then sink never to be heard from again, but I dont die if I run out of air so Im not too sure...one way to find out is to lob a chicken into the lava...
