Ive held back from really putting thoughts to text on this yet... but Ive seen it twice now at the cinema and feel it is now an appropriate time for me to comment.
Now, first off, it really is an excellent film, that manages to be a gripping success for the full 2 and so hours your arse is in the seat, which is a great note to start on as it really shows the quality of the film and how well it has been put together. The plot isnt as complicated as has been made out, although I think the dialogue could have been a bit neater as I think some of it felt a little too overscripted and for some scenes it was only on the second viewing that I really picked up what was being said.
The gritty voice of Batman is a bit amusing; its also pretty obvious why he has the voice to help intimidate and mask the fact that hes Bruce Wayne.
Bales performance naturally was as good as you would expect, I think hes a great actor. Ledger was also really on form, definitely the performance of his career. There was only a few moments where I saw Ledger and not the Joker. He was an infinitely better villain than the hammed performance of Liam Neeson in the first film, who I found hard to really take as seriously in his role. I dont care for Maggie Gyllenhaal at all so didnt really rate her performance, other than bring on par given her less substantial screentime. Tits or GTFO
Still, as good as it is, it wasnt the best film ever, masterpiece, etc. Maybe I expected too much or had it overhyped? Its definitely one I could sit and watch again simply because its so involving and goes above the simple action film to something with much more depth, making it a great film. For me, Wall-E is still my overall film of the year so far - and Im seeing that again tomorrow to reinforce that fact.
A solid 4 w00ts, not quite a 5 for me, but still a must see film for anyone, not just action/blockbuster fans.
