Technomate Motorised Satellite System
on: August 27, 2008, 20:29:42 PM
My friend is wanting to get a motorised system, and order it next week. His reason for getting it is for the football!!

He was thinking of getting this http://www.wizardsatellite.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=101&products_id=609

Would that be ok, and what else would he need? He thinks he can buy a card which will last a year or something?? Hell be getting a card writer later once he knows how it all works etc.

Any advice? Me and him will be installing it which wont be hard, but can we just turn it straight on? The dish will have to be on the back of the house, so Im not sure if this will point in the right direction, so might we need to mount it at the bottom of the garden on a stand so it faces the right way?

tell him dont bother getting a card.

DIgitalb cards are the cheapest £200, but they no longer show football on saturdays... at least they arent allowed to atm after pressure from Sky.

He wants a Dreambox or somthing else that supports cardsharing.

Put it this way, Dreambox = £99
Card Programmer & CAM Programmer = £75
CAM =£60
Blank Cards = £10 (less really)

Problem is CAMs shelf life is about a year max. Usually the manufacturers support for so long & then stop & then bring out a new cam.
Dreambox 500S (basic dreambox) is £100
7025 - which takes a normal HDD & has 2x tuners = £300 iirc
Dreambox 600 that takes a laptop hdd & 1x tuner are around £200
Dreambox 800HD is hidef & takes a laptop hdd with 1x tuner = £400
Dreambox 8000HD which is in the pipeline has 4x Tuners - these can be mixed & matched (ie 2x cable & 2x satellite) & take a normal HDD as well as being HiDef

Dreambox runs linux, he can even "pay" for a cardshare http://zsharing.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
20euros a month which would prob work out less for the card he plans to buy & is more than likely included.

Best place for football atm is Sky Italia.

Both him and me havent a clue what were doing to be honest!

I didnt think he was thinking of paying that much for a card. Im sure his boss has a setup, and makes his own cards or something....so he was going to do them for him....does that sound right?

We both thought you could buy the gear (dish, motor, receiver etc), then could get people to make cards for you (and later make your own) and thats it? Or is there more to it....

Cheers for the help Egg

yes you can... but certain CAMs open certain packages. - Example a Diablo Cam is £100 & opens up anything that can be opened with a dodgy card
Still not as good as cardsharing. I am sharing over 2,500 cards & get everything on my £100 box. No Cam needed, just an internet connection.

I see.

Another reason to get this set-up though is cost. As he was thinking once its installed, he wont really have to pay anything out of he gets the cards from his boss.

So with a cam, you use a share site like you linked, and write to data to black cards....and you get all the channels. And the more you update this, the more channels youll get?

Yes & No

A few years back Dragon Cam was the must have CAM, now its Diablo, next year it will be somthing else. Then you may need a specific Card. Cerebo cards for example are £30+
A Fun Card as little as £4, as encryption gets more difficult, newer cards are needed & CAMs. Also the company that makes the CAMs need repeatable business, so after a while
they will stop supporting the CAM. The receivers can also be patched, like the CAMs, but none are as good as CardSharing. Also, you dont need to pay for a cardshare. The link
I gave was an example if you did want to pay. I get everything there & dont pay.

Anyway, forgot to say last night, the Technomate 9100 can support card sharing I think  :w00t: not sure about the 5400

its easy enough to get to grips with, it really depends on how easy you learn things.

As for forums, theres a ton of them. I usually just google for what I want to know as some forums are more helpfull than other.
If you do get one, then go for CCCAM as your Emulator & I can swap lines with you to get you started
