What VPN clients are available for free to use with Vista, other than the built in one?

Doesnt work, whereas the exact same details work on an XP machine.

There is no reason it should not work.  I connect to various operating systems such as SBS 2003, Server 2000 etc using VBista Buisness on a regular basis.  Using the exact same settings.

What are you trying to connect to?  My immediate thought is patches/updates for Vista clients to allow you to connect.  For example before the updates came out, a Vista machine could not communicate with a 2003 server.
