Always train your skills 1st, they will give you the biggest upgrade.

Most of your item upgrades will come from quests and if you vendor all your crap you get while questing you should have enough silver to start a profession :)

Cool, cheers. I did enough quests to train myself up.....need the next level now though, so bought a sheild....which was stupid, as the next quest I went to........I can have a better shield!! Started a profession as a healer as well.......did the 1st training thing for that, and now am on the 2nd. Dont know if this was the best choice.....but my friend I spoke to said people would want me that way. Just need to find some linen cloth now...........

everyone can do Healing & Fishing.

Your choices are out of enchanting, herbalism, clothworking, leatherworking, etc.

Indeed, there are 3 secondary proffessions, Cooking/First Aid/Fishing. For your first character I suggest taking all 3, it will add a lot to the experience of the game.

Drop the shield and get hold of a nice big 2hand weapon to beat the crap out of stuff :P

As eggtastico said you can train all the secondary professions (Firstaid, Cooking and Fishing) but only 2 of the main professions (Leatherworking, Skinning, Blacksmithing, Mining, Alchemy, Herbalism, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, Tailoring etc)

http://www.wowhead.com is much much better than thottbot now imo.

Thottbot comments are 90% spam while wowheads are moderated and normally much more helpful.

Oh and its layout is much friendlier :P

LightHeaded A really handy mod, saves loads of time rather than having to tab out to look up a quest  :)

It is indeed, heres a post I made on guild website regarding mods, its a tad out of date now (esp since I barely play my shammy anymore) but may give you some ideas.

----------------------------------

Right since add-ons section is a little bear thought I would share my current mods and some recommendations. All of this is based on my experiences / mods I currently use. You guys may feel different (Ive seen some massive OTT and complete bare minimal UIs out there so each to their own)

First of all there are two programs out there which are great for keeping your addons updated, Ive read alot of QQ posts when patches had come out or generally everyone else had updated raid/thread mods and theirs didnt work anymore.

WowAceUpdater  - A more advanced updating / installing tool, not as user friendly as the other option but a lot more options and updates a lot more.
UI Central – A much easier, happier (but resource hungry) application that gets its updates from the incgamers site.

 ------------------------------------

Im not going to even bother doing packages or whole UI mods as they annoy me, you always get things your not happy with and takes ages to disable the bits you dont want.

Must haves!
CTmod – For supplying raid information to everyone else in the raid
Omen Threat Meter – Keep an eye on your threat!
BigWigs BossMods – There are other boss mods out there, I just prefer BigWigs

UI / Bars
To start with heres a sceeny of my UI/Mods (I run at 1920x1200… click for full image)

Bartender3 - Ive never used any other bar mob because Ive never had the need… Does everything you want with adding multiple new bars, different shapes, and full key mappings.
Bagnon - Again Ive never had to use any other bag mods before. This combines your bags into a superbag but also allows you to split it up (bag 1-3 in one window, 4-5 in another etc) and also allows you to see your bank whenever you want. PIC1 .::. PIC2
FUBAR – Used to use titan but wasnt updated for AGES so I moved to fubar, its great for those little bits and bobs. I currently have thinks like RaidIcons, Location (and recommended locations for levels), PC performance, TopScore, Faction Rep, Durability, Rest, Money Tracker etc.

Party/Raid frames
X-Perl - I used to use Perl Classic for party frames and X-Perl for raid frames but since latest re-install went for just X-Perl and have to say Im happy with it after some playing.

Party Frames PIC
By default these are huge, contain stupid 3D character animations and are generally not happy (some people like them :P) after abit of playing I got the above which Im happy with… I change them slightly for healer/tank but generally all the same.

Raid Frames PIC .::. Raid Frames full shot
Love the X-Perl raid frames, nice and simple but faded out when not needing any attention. Bright when needed curing / decursing / health below <70 but only when in range. Newer version works happy with CTMod to give AFK tags, Rezzing information (XX is rezzing YY), Anhk and SS timers / cooldowns etc.

Questing
Monkey Quest – Again another mod that I cant live without when questing, my mate hates it because hes running at a low rez and needs the space… I dont have a problem with it and find it soooo useful for keeping track of number of drops collected / mobs killed.
Lightheaded -Very nice mod that gives you all the wowhead comments for a quest ingame so you dont have to alt tab out all the time.

General Useful Mods
Advanced Trade Skill Window – Nice profession management tool, very good for seeing what you can make with items in banks, alts, vendor and stacking a big list of to buy
EquipCompare – Shows your currently equipped item when hovering over any other item of same slot (AH/Bags/Chat links/etc)

Shammy
Call of Elements - I would be lost without this, as I dont use many custom bars having separate totem bars is a necessity. PIC

Pally
I use 2 mods for Greater buffs.

Solo < 5mans I use Paladin Greater Buffmod
Great small mod thats very easy to use and gives you warnings. Its abit broken since 10/30min buffs came in, it goes green at 15min instead of 29 but you can still see its red when a player doesnt have a buff. PIC

Raid I use Pally Power
Better for raids because if all paladins have the mod its easy to decide whos doing what and its easier to see whos missing what.

Nice collection, Id do the same but it would take far too long!

Until you start raiding, you dont really need any mods, they just help. :)

*edit - Primal Fire 18g? You jammy sod, tis more like 30g on my server  :o

Well, not been playing it too much over xmas, but am at level 14, and play along with my friend who has just started a new character again, as he had a level 40 hunter, but me being so low levelled was quite poo for him.

Think for my Professions im going to take Blacksmithing and Mining, as think these will be useful for my Warrior. Also found a mine as well, as I went to meet my friend at Stormwind where he started off, and there is a mine on the outskirts.

For the secondary professions.....is it worth my time keeping these going? As I started with First Aid and Fishing, but will I gain anythig from these really??
