Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Bacon on February 20, 2007, 14:15:56 PM
Hi

Possibly want to move my hordie mage from a dead pvp realm, so anyone know of a decent realm?

I heard i can move pvp to pve, so will consider those realms also, as tbh im not a big fan of pvp anymore, just want to get in a karazhan/gruul guild, also if you need a hordie mage, leave a msg here :)

Carebears unite! If I wanted a pvp game Id have bought one. Either way the only real pvp left is in Arenas/BGs. Outlands has some sporadic pvp but thats about it.

My guild is off to Gruuls Lair tonight for the first time.

Arathor EU. PVE Server.  8)

Not so worried about a top guild, so long as they raid and there is potential, im just sick of being zerged by 10+ alliance everytime i need to farm something.  :P and yeh ive played long enough to realise this!

Either way Id recommed a move to Arathor EU, my guild has no spaces for a mage, but what with the old guard ( ) leaving, many servers are looking for experienced players.

*edit - The top guilds, wont accept anyone who isnt 70 with an alt that is upwards of 65, with maxed out proffesions.

Note - Anyone thinking of Warhammer online -
Looks amazing, around game stuff - very nice, the core aspect of a game of this type, the combat - Big pile of sh*t, most boring combat I have played in any game, dreadful.

Warhammer Age of Reckoning is what im waiting for :)

Ive given up on WoW all together its not my idea of fun anymore. I would go back to Dark Ages of Camelot but the European servers are seeming very dead. If I can get hold of two cheap accounts with all Expansion packs I think I will move over to an American server.

So who is still playing and raiding well, and maybe alliance as well?
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: White Giant on April 05, 2007, 10:00:32 AM
Not alliance, but I still raid 2 or 3 times a week, only casually, my guild has done 4 or 5 bosses in Karazan - managing two groups each raid night.

Started leveling a druid though, which Im enjoying more than my 70 hunter or 67 warrior.

anyone still play?

Ive never played it, but my mate has offered me his account with a lvl 42 player.

He said its kind of boring until you get a mount.
Title: Warcraft again!

Yup still playing, got my Paladin to 66 last night, goes along with my 70 hunter and warrior.

In a Black Temple guild with my hunter, so Ive seen pretty much everything this expansion has - Im playing a lot less than I used to though.

One point to consider, the Arena system has ruined quite a lot of PvP/PvE - just my opinion. I wont go into it unless anyone is interested. :)

Quote

You can get a mount at level 40. It doesnt add anything other than being able to get from A-B quicker. If youve never played the game, dont start with the level 42 char, start from the beginning otherwise you will be overwhelmed, especially if youre on a PVP server. (Mid-40s = Stranglethorn Vale = You getting killed every 2 minutes by some kid on his level 70).

Currently the level cap is 70.

Theyve recently made the leveling process from levels 20-60 approx. 40% quicker than it used to be, to help new players level up quicker.

Its been suggested that an experienced player can get a new char 1-60 in about 4 days /played (as in 4 days of play time, not real time). For a brand new player Id probably say around 10 or 12 days /played - depending on the class.

Egg, lemme know what the email address is for the account youve got and Ill email you an invite back to the game, if you accept Ill get a free month.

If you mean what class, heres my little brake down of the classes.

Hunter - Probably the easiest to level up. Also the easier to play, but one of the hardest to master. You use a ranged weapon (bow/Xbow/gun) to kill enemies (mobs). Also you have a pet to help you. The pet traditionally is the one the mob attacks whilst you stand far away and shoot it. For PVP, a decent class once you get some good gear although suffers from line-of-sight issues in Arena. Extremely common class Ranged Damage/Utility Class.

Warrior - Quite slow to level up. Used to be the only useful tanking class in the game. More recently other classes have been tanking quite a bit too, meaning a lot of Warriors have gone damage spec. For tanking, its the class with the most panic buttons for when things go wrong. For DPS they can do a huge amount of damage. Singularly the most gear dependant class in the game. For PVP, assuming a Mortal Strike spec and good gear, they are one of the most powerful classes. Very common class. Tanking/Melee Damage Class.

Priest - Reasonably quick to level if shadow spec. Used to be the best healer in the game, again a recent change to game mechanics means most are now damage spec. They are casters, using either Holy, or shadow to heal or damage. Very much wanted in endgame raiding due to their ability to give mana back to the group. For PVP, can be strong in either a healing or damage roll. Few holy priests about, with plenty of shadow ones. Healer/Caster Damage/Utility Class.

Rogue - A pure damage class, quite quick to level up. Duel-wields daggers/swords/maces. Has the ability to stealth themselves hiding from enemies and suprise attacks. Argueably the highest damage class in the game. Needed for raiding due to high damage output. For PVP they are very annoying to fight against especially for casters - will be destroyed by a warrior. Melee Damage Class.

Paladin - Multi-utility class, very slow to level. With the introduction of the expansion pack, both sides (Alliance/horde) can now play as the Paladin class. Most paladins play as a healer, being the best single target healer in the game. They can tank really quite well however decent gear is required. They have a damage spec, although it isnt great at the moment. In PVP (depending on spec) can be one of the hardest classes to kill. Healer/Tank Class.

Shaman - Multi-utility class, reasonably quick to level. Again both sides can now play as this class. Masters of the elements, they use nature to heal allies, and to damage oponents. Usually only a healer or damage class, they do equally as well at either. Most at endgame are healers however. In PVP a very strong class in any spec. Caster/Melee Damage/Healing Class.

Druid - Pure Hybrid Class, quite quick to level but quite boring. This class has the ability to shapeshift into various things. Druids can tank, heal, or damage. Very strong tanks due to recent changes - not as many panic buttons as a warrior, but with a huge amount of hit points and armor. Healing they rely on HoTs (heal over times) that heal a small amount every few seconds as opposed to single large heals that other classes use. Damage wise they can be either a rogue style melee class, or a caster doing damage at range with magic. Druids are the jack of all trades in this game. Strong in PVP in most specs. Tanking/Melee Damage/Caster Damage/Healing Class

Warlock - Damage and pet class, quick to level. The warlock is a caster that can summon demons to help him. Uses fire and shadow spells to kill opponents. Similar to a hunter but uses magic and demons to kill things. In PVP they are often considered overpowered due to the ability to fear things (make opponents run away randomly so they have no control over their character), and with good gear they can do an extreme amount of damage. Caster Damage/Utility Class.

Mages - Pure magic damage, quick to level. Mages uses arcane, frost and fire to kill enemies. Depending on spec/skill/gear, mages can do the most amount of damage of any class in the game. The suffer from the glass cannon issues, loads of damage, but very easy to kill in both PVP and normal play. Caster Damage Class.

Phew, that was a lot of typing.  :-)  More info can be found here : http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/classes/index.html Try and remember that most of that info is a little out of date, Id say my descriptions are a little more accurate.

http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/ is a great start if youre new to the game, give it a quick read to grasp the basics.

chrisdicko, lemme know the email address youre gonna use to register, Ill send you and invite and might get a free month.

If you are starting a new character, remember that most people playing the game have a high level character so there wont be many people to group with until you get to around level 60. Dont let that put you off, there are still plenty of people just not as many as when you hit that level.

The game is incredably popular with over 9 million players world wide, so there is a person playing from every walk of life. Unfortunately like most popular things, there are a lot of idiots involved.

Any more questions feel free to ask.

WoW that was alot of typing and I basicly agree with what you said about the classes :)

My 1st 60 was Warlock, as said above very high DPS, pets and easy to get your head around

When the Expansion came out I got a Shaman to 70 as resto, not the best way to level as its very slow but it made it easy to get a group as everyone loves a healer. This was my raiding toon for ages.

About 4 months ago I leveled a Paladin to 70 to tank with and I wouldnt recommend rolling a tankadin until you know the game quite well as there is alot of theroycraft and gear grinding to become a raiding tankadin.

Finished leveling my lock to 70 resently and started on hunter (now 63), Lock is used mainly purely in PVP now and whenever the guild needs some extra DPS instead of tank or healer.

Hunter is really enjoyable actually, its nice to go from a tank / healer which are both very focused roles to a much simpler DPS class for grindings quests for. Very nice DPS aswell.

Ive got all other classes to come random level or have played them before. For a 1st I would roll a DPS with some survivability... Something like a Hunter, Lock, Rogue.

But then again I always hated my mage :P

43 Warlock Leatherworking & Herbalism
23 Warrior Enchanter & Alchemy
15 Mage Mining & Armorsmith
1 Paladin Engineering & Jewelcrafting

I like to be self sufficent & as I was left oodles of money, I started a Guild, just for the guild bank & ease for all my toons to access whatever is needed.

Im on a pvp server, hammer somthing or somthing hammer

Drop armorsmithing on your mage, totally useless - especially for a mage!

Also I notice you have a leatherworker but not a skinner. :o
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on December 24, 2007, 10:12:48 AM
Indeed alot of the high level stuff is bind of pickup meaning you wont be able to make stuff on one toon to give to another.

Leatherworking on Warlock and Armorsmith on mage arnt the best choices for their armor class.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: Eggtastico on December 24, 2007, 15:57:29 PM
Leatherworking guy is maxed at 300
Herbalism is to support the Alchemist - who supports everyone with enchanting & potions.

Mage mining is to support the paladin engineer & armorsmith to support the warrior.

The Warrior alchem/enchant is maxed out at 225 & need to be lvl 35 to go any higher.. my main priority atm is to get the warlock high enough for burning crusade.- Seem to make some decent gold of the leatherworker.
Believe hes specialises in element leatherworking. Sell 3 or 4 headbands a day for 5g each, which cost me about 5g in total to make/buy the leather.

The Idea is to keep it as a circle, so each character has to get played :-D
The Lock is numero uno

Well ive played it a bit...........

Im a Night Elv.....at level 6. Whats all this leatherworking/herbalism/armorsmith stuff??? Do I need to be doing something like this?

At the moment im just doing quest things.........like filling vials with water from moonwells........which is boring. I knocked f**k out of animals in the woods.....which was getting my level up, but seemed to take ages, so ive stopped that now.

What else am I suppose to be doing?!

Also.........ive got hardly any money to buy new swords etc. Do I just get majority of money from quests? Also, can you sell shields etc, as ive got about 4 crap ones which ive picked up, but only want one really dont i.

Cheers

warlock is up to leve 45 - nearly 46.

Started my own guild - as it works out cheaper using a guild bank for multiple characters than it does buying slots & bags for each one (100g for 96 slots) & then pissing about emailing stuff back & forth.

need to get the warrior up to lvl 35 as the Lock really needs those high buff potions

Professions (e.g. Leatherworking/herbalism etc), can be learnt at level 5. Youll have to travel outside of the starting area to find someone to teach you - also it will cost (1 silver I think?) to learn the first rank of professions. You can take 2 main, and all 3 secondary professions. See here for more info : http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/professions/

A quick note about them. At higher levels, some things you make may only be useable by the person who makes them, this is called Bind on Pick-up (often referred to as BoP) You cannot give them/sell them to anyone else, it is only useable by you. You will find this with certain drops (of items/gear) later on too.

Be careful what professions you take as it can be quite hard to level them up. A mage with armorsmithing for example can make some decent plate armor and sell it (Bind on Equip/BoE items) but will find the best stuff he can make is BoP, but as a mage cant wear plate armor it is a waste. It would be much better for the mage to take Tailoring (for example) as that mainly makes cloth armor, which the mage can wear.

Certain professions traditionally are taken by certain classes, Mages and Warlocks often take Tailoring for example, as the Bind On Pickup gear they make at higher level is very powerful. Other professions, such as Alchemy or Jewelcrafting are useful to everyone as everyone can use potions and gems (Jewel crafting can also make some decent trinkets at lower levels.

Regarding leveling up. It can be a boring and frustrating task, however some really enjoy it. The first 10 levels or so are meant to be an introduction to the game, teaching you about killing/looting/questing. There are generally two ways to level, the first is by questing. This can be great way to do it as youll often receive armor or weapons as quest rewards. The other is what is usually called grinding. This is going to an area and killing mobs over and over. Whilst very boring, this is the essence of an MMO. Combining the two is usually considered the quickest way, e.g You have a quest to collect 10 pieces of rock from the top of the map. Set off in the general direction of the rock, and kill everything you see on the way there. Once you get the rock, set off to return and kill everything on your way back. This will net you a lot of XP from the killing, and also the XP/reward from the quest.

Every level requires more XP than the previous one, but the quests and mobs also give more XP the higher they are. It will take longer when you get to a higher level, but it will be more interesting as there will be more options - you dont have to stay in one area, go to another for a while if you get bored, etc.

Regarding the selling of items, any items that are grey can be safely sold to a vendor NPC, these items that are of no use are often called vendor items, or vendor trash. Picking up and selling these items is a great way to make money, especially at higher levels.

Another way to make money is to use your professions (see above). Certain items are always in demand - healing potions made by Alchemists for example. Whilst these wont sell at low levels, youll make a killing once you can make the best ones. Each profession can make you money, some better than others. Engineering for example, is very hard to make a profit with, as most items you make will require the engineering skill to use, so your market is limited.

chris, as you are such a low level, I wouldnt bother buying any new items. It will make very little difference to your damage. Just make sure you learn new abilities when they are available (from your class trainer, they will be in your starting area). Regarding shields, if you can use them I assume you are a warrior (the only Nelf class that can use them I think?), try and get a 2handed weapon it will help you kill stuff much quicker than sword and shield.

Remember, make love, not Warcraft : http://www.southparkzone.com/episodes/1008/Make-Love-Not-Warcraft.html
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: Eggtastico on December 26, 2007, 16:26:30 PM
I disagree about taking the professions for the ones your going to use.
Simply because it will mean Ill only gather stuff for my own self.

As leatherworking is no good for my toon, I turn out quite a lot of lvl 30-50 stuff and it sells quite easily enough, making me a load of money I can use to buy stuff for myself.

The game properly begins at 70, and youll be kicking yourself when you cant make the Frozen Shadoweave set for your lock.

Ofc I know loads of people with weird proffession choices, and they enjoy it, and thats what the game is about. :)

I just know what im like.. Id end up hording everything for clothmaking & end up making nothing to sell..
Leatherworking means I cant use it, so I can only sell it :-D

Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on December 27, 2007, 09:28:20 AM
As White Giant says you may find yourself kicking yourself at 70 but its not the end of the world, its not that hard to drop a profession and re-do it when your already 70 and can farm the mats (or do dailys for gold and buy them).

Chris, dont worry about professions and such just yet. When you get a quest to visit the main city have a look around, its in this city you will find profession trainers and such.

Make sure every even level (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) etc you visit your class trainer for your new skills

If you dont mind losing the few hours youve spent on that char, it might be wise to roll a new character on a realm with a lower population (not one with a Low tag though, as they tend to be pretty empty).

Yeah, cheers mate. Wish Id realised this at the beginning    Found a medium filled one, and started my character again. At level 6 already. Well........that might not be fast, but a lot faster than my 1st attempt.

I think my life would be easier with the game if I knew where the coordinates were on the help guides! Ive downloaded a zip file after searching google, and it has four files in it....is this right?! I knw which folder to put them in --> C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns BUT, do I need a folder in there?? or just dump the files in?

Cheers

be careful where you download mods from, some dodgy mods might get you banned.

I use this site. for the co-ordinates you want meta-map (http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=3331)

just unzip the download straight into the interface/Addons folder. When you login on the character selection screen theres a small addons folder in the bottom left. You may need to click the "load out of date addons" for some mods, but for me theyve always worked fine.

Ah, the joys of Addons.

If you want to make life easy on yourself Id suggest http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater

Its an external program that lists all the Ace addons. Ace is a framework on which some of the most popular addons are based.

The best thing about this program is, you dont have to mess about with slow websites (patch day is always a nightmare for UI sites) or unzipping folders and moving stuff around.

Tick the box of the addon you want, and go to the menu and click install, done! (Remember not to have WoW running at the time).

Some of my favourite addons are external to Ace, but Im slowly replacing all independant mods with the Ace equivalent.

www.ctmod.net is a good start, the Core package should get you on your way. As always feel free to ask more questions.

Cheers for the advise again boys :)

Also....another thing.........

How is best to go about things, as I dont know wether to say buy a new Sword with my money, go to my trainer, or learn a trade?? Or should I train a bit, learn a bit of a tade, buy a new not so good sword/sheild etc?? Or on the other hand, try and build my characters sword/shield/armor etc?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on December 29, 2007, 16:28:22 PM
Always train your skills 1st, they will give you the biggest upgrade.

Most of your item upgrades will come from quests and if you vendor all your crap you get while questing you should have enough silver to start a profession :)
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on December 29, 2007, 18:40:11 PM
Cool, cheers. I did enough quests to train myself up.....need the next level now though, so bought a sheild....which was stupid, as the next quest I went to........I can have a better shield!! Started a profession as a healer as well.......did the 1st training thing for that, and now am on the 2nd. Dont know if this was the best choice.....but my friend I spoke to said people would want me that way. Just need to find some linen cloth now...........

everyone can do Healing & Fishing.

Your choices are out of enchanting, herbalism, clothworking, leatherworking, etc.

Post by: White Giant on December 29, 2007, 20:29:15 PM
Indeed, there are 3 secondary proffessions, Cooking/First Aid/Fishing. For your first character I suggest taking all 3, it will add a lot to the experience of the game.

Post by: Leon on December 29, 2007, 20:30:55 PM
Drop the shield and get hold of a nice big 2hand weapon to beat the crap out of stuff :P

As eggtastico said you can train all the secondary professions (Firstaid, Cooking and Fishing) but only 2 of the main professions (Leatherworking, Skinning, Blacksmithing, Mining, Alchemy, Herbalism, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, Tailoring etc)

LightHeaded (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=7017&so=&page=1) A really handy mod, saves loads of time rather than having to tab out to look up a quest  :)

It is indeed, heres a post I made on guild website regarding mods, its a tad out of date now (esp since I barely play my shammy anymore) but may give you some ideas.

----------------------------------

Right since add-ons section is a little bear thought I would share my current mods and some recommendations. All of this is based on my experiences / mods I currently use. You guys may feel different (Ive seen some massive OTT and complete bare minimal UIs out there so each to their own)

First of all there are two programs out there which are great for keeping your addons updated, Ive read alot of QQ posts when patches had come out or generally everyone else had updated raid/thread mods and theirs didnt work anymore.

WowAceUpdater (http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater)  - A more advanced updating / installing tool, not as user friendly as the other option but a lot more options and updates a lot more.
UI Central (http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=2106) – A much easier, happier (but resource hungry) application that gets its updates from the incgamers site.

 ------------------------------------

Im not going to even bother doing packages or whole UI mods as they annoy me, you always get things your not happy with and takes ages to disable the bits you dont want.

Must haves!
CTmod (http://www.ctmod.net) – For supplying raid information to everyone else in the raid
Omen Threat Meter (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/9101/) – Keep an eye on your threat!
BigWigs BossMods (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3299/) – There are other boss mods out there, I just prefer BigWigs

UI / Bars
To start with heres a sceeny of my UI/Mods (I run at 1920x1200… click for full image)
(http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/full1.jpg) (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/full2.jpg)

Bartender3 (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/5653/) - Ive never used any other bar mob because Ive never had the need… Does everything you want with adding multiple new bars, different shapes, and full key mappings.
Bagnon (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/2090/) - Again Ive never had to use any other bag mods before. This combines your bags into a superbag but also allows you to split it up (bag 1-3 in one window, 4-5 in another etc) and also allows you to see your bank whenever you want. PIC1 (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/bag.jpg) .::. PIC2 (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/bank.jpg)
FUBAR (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3040/) – Used to use titan but wasnt updated for AGES so I moved to fubar, its great for those little bits and bobs. I currently have thinks like RaidIcons, Location (and recommended locations for levels), PC performance, TopScore, Faction Rep, Durability, Rest, Money Tracker etc.

Party/Raid frames
X-Perl (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/) - I used to use Perl Classic for party frames and X-Perl for raid frames but since latest re-install went for just X-Perl and have to say Im happy with it after some playing.

Party Frames PIC (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/party1.jpg)
By default these are huge, contain stupid 3D character animations and are generally not happy (some people like them :P) after abit of playing I got the above which Im happy with… I change them slightly for healer/tank but generally all the same.

Raid Frames PIC (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/raid1.jpg) .::. Raid Frames full shot (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/raid2.jpg)
Love the X-Perl raid frames, nice and simple but faded out when not needing any attention. Bright when needed curing / decursing / health below <70 but only when in range. Newer version works happy with CTMod to give AFK tags, Rezzing information (XX is rezzing YY), Anhk and SS timers / cooldowns etc.

Questing
Monkey Quest (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3978/) – Again another mod that I cant live without when questing, my mate hates it because hes running at a low rez and needs the space… I dont have a problem with it and find it soooo useful for keeping track of number of drops collected / mobs killed.
Lightheaded (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7017-LightHeaded.html) -Very nice mod that gives you all the wowhead comments for a quest ingame so you dont have to alt tab out all the time.

General Useful Mods
Advanced Trade Skill Window (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/2389/) – Nice profession management tool, very good for seeing what you can make with items in banks, alts, vendor and stacking a big list of to buy
EquipCompare (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/166/) – Shows your currently equipped item when hovering over any other item of same slot (AH/Bags/Chat links/etc)

Shammy
Call of Elements (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/4917/) - I would be lost without this, as I dont use many custom bars having separate totem bars is a necessity. PIC (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/COE.jpg)

Pally
I use 2 mods for Greater buffs.

Solo < 5mans I use Paladin Greater Buffmod (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/7663/)
Great small mod thats very easy to use and gives you warnings. Its abit broken since 10/30min buffs came in, it goes green at 15min instead of 29 but you can still see its red when a player doesnt have a buff. PIC (http://www.ifeelsheepish.co.uk/random/wow/ui/PGB.jpg)

Raid I use Pally Power (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3738/)
Better for raids because if all paladins have the mod its easy to decide whos doing what and its easier to see whos missing what.

Well, not been playing it too much over xmas, but am at level 14, and play along with my friend who has just started a new character again, as he had a level 40 hunter, but me being so low levelled was quite poo for him.

Think for my Professions im going to take Blacksmithing and Mining, as think these will be useful for my Warrior. Also found a mine as well, as I went to meet my friend at Stormwind where he started off, and there is a mine on the outskirts.

For the secondary professions.....is it worth my time keeping these going? As I started with First Aid and Fishing, but will I gain anythig from these really??
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on January 02, 2008, 18:03:43 PM
Firstaid is useful for healing yourself as its quicker than eating after a fight... you can also do it when in combat so if your pet had aggro and you need to get your health up you can bandage.

Fishing is only really useful if you take cooking aswell, you can make your own food (crap at low level, good at high level as it buffs you) or just fish to get some food for your pet.

For a hunter you would be better off doing either Leatherworking and Skinnig (make your own armor, quivers, ammo pounchs, patches etc) or Engieering and Mining (make your own weapons, good gadgets, ammo etc)
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on January 02, 2008, 18:05:51 PM
Might drop fishing then as it takes up time I could be doing something else....but First Aid might be ok actually.

Im a Warrior, so thought Blacksmithing and Mining would be good....(might have wrote it wrong on the last page).

Post by: Leon on January 02, 2008, 19:08:34 PM
Sorry me being an idiot, warrior = BS usefull so keep it :)

Cool :)

Also another noobular question.....when is it best to train and get better at the professions?? As most the time im doing quests with my friend (who isnt a warrior), so dont have a lot of time if that makes sense. Obviously when he isnt online I can be getting on with Mining etc. Or can it be done anytime really, just when I get a bit of spare time......or should I stop doing quests for a while and concentrate on the mining/blacksmithing?

Professions can be done as and when you like, theyre not essential, but can be very useful. A general rule of thumb is to try and get 5 points in your professions per level.

Your gear looks pretty good, drop the 1hand+shield, and get a nice meaty 2hander, it will make killing much much quicker.

Ah I should have said that you may have to pay to learn how to use certain weapons.

Go to a major city (Darnasus will be your closest), and ask a guard for directions to a Weapon Master. He can teach you how to wield certain weapons, but to learn them all you will have to visit different weapons masters in all of the major cities.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on January 02, 2008, 23:10:08 PM
arrr right, Ive been to a couple of them in Iron Forge. But I was looking for Mace training as that was the best weapon I had at the time. But couldnt see it with them trainers.

So, with them you learn what you want and find the weapon of choice and then you can use it! I see now.

Indeed, work your way around each major city to learn all weapon skills... at 20 you can learn polearms aswell.

Training professions, just do it as and when... as WG said its not that important and its not hard to level at a higher level when you suddenly decide you want to. Just grab any mining nodes you go near when questing to give you a small stockpile :)

yea, best to pick up gethering skills early on
Skinning & Mining prob. best & skin everything you kill & mine everything you see.

Its pointless taking alchemy or enchanting or anything where you make anything because all you make is sh*t & it gets expensive.

They could make more though.
Still charge £25 knowing they will see all the money & cutting out all the middle men.

Anyway, where should a level 48 Lock go to level next?
Nothing left in hinterlands, tanaris (except ZF but cant find a group) or stranglevale.

Im all confused where you quest now they have changed the leveling speed. Last time I did it on my hunter I ended up skipping a load of zones.

48...
Swamp of Sorrows, Azshara, Feralas, Searing Gorge are all easily doable.

WRONG!

Alchemy & Enchanting are about the only two crafting professions that continue to make a decent amount of money once everyone has hit the level cap. I will admit that enchanting is not only a bitch to level, but is very expensive - however if you get a rare enchant early on (in an expansion for example) you can charge what you like as people have no alternative but to buy it from you. See Crusader enchant on newly opened realms as an example of this.

As each new instance is released people get new gear. New gear equals new gems and enchants. To get the new gear, raiders need pots, and lots of em. They buy them as farming takes up valuable raiding time.

Engineering/blacksmithing/leatherworking are the ones that really fail. After a couple of months at the level cap crafted gear is almost always outclassed by instance/PvP gear.

Regarding buying online, Vivendi (publishers) wont allow it as they dont get the money - damn Frechies.

*edit - Egg, try Un Goro, maybe a little tough, but as a lock you should be okay to do the first lot of quests. I managed it at that level as a holy Paladin recently.

also, whats a "boost"?

Been looking for a group to do ZF instance, but cant find any, people say to get a boost. - Got 6 missions in ZF to do
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: White Giant on January 03, 2008, 18:37:42 PM
To be boosted or to recieve a boost is to have a player much higher level than the instance is designed for, run a lower level character through it.

For example, the missus boosted me through ZF on her level 70 rogue, when I was playing on my level 45 paladin. The mobs do very little damage to a level 70, meaning my level 45 could sit back and let the level 70 do all the work. Dont beg or spam for boosts, its one of the most annoying things people do. Ask a guildie - you are in a guild and didnt create one just for the bank space, right?

Boosting is a reasonable way to level up, but is mainly used to get pieces of gear for the lower level character (or to complete quests in your case). Doing the instance with a group of a proper level will net you greater rewards, not only in XP (as being boosted results in much less XP gained by the lower level character), but also it will teach you what to do in a group - Croud control, tanking, healing, etc etc.

Mining/Blacksmithing is useful for a warrior, especially as a first character. More recently, the introduction of Season 1 Arena gear aquirable (sp?) with normal honor points has reduced the usefulness, but still a nice way to get some gear if you dont like PvP. Dont worry too much about this until you hit level 70 though.  :D

*edit - Reading through my replies I see Ive made a few comments that might seem odd. Remember one thing, once you hit level 70 WoW becomes a different game, sure you can quest and kill normal mobs, but a new world of instances, raiding, and PvP open up. Most of my comments are there to make life easy for someone who doesnt have a level 70 character already - having a 70 that can support a new character makes leveling very different to starting from scratch. Some people like the leveling process, and once they hit 70 start a new character. Others (like myself) hate the process and only when I start doing top end instances and raids do I begin to have fun.

*edit2 -
Quote

To be honest at that level the stuff you can make is crap - not your fault, its just the way the game works. Once you get to 375 in those professions (300+ is only available once you install the Burning Crusade expansion pack), you will be able to learn some brilliant recipies. Healing pots that restore 3000 health, enchants that temporarily give the wielder of a weapon 120 agility, etc etc.

raiding is 10 / 25 man content and can only be done at 70+ (ignoring the lvl 60 stuff as its no longer run really) I add the + because you need to gear up once you hit 70 before you can really head into it

How are you suppose to find all this stuff out generally?? As if I handt read it on here, I wouldnt know half the things to be honest!

Ive been playing since US Beta, so well over 3 years now. You play a game for 3 years, you pick stuff up.    Theres tons of stuff I dont know, mainly about classes I havent played to a high level, so plenty for me to learn.

A great start to learning is to read up. Or if you dont like reading, try wcradio.com - its a WoW Radio station, almost all shows are available in podcast format, so you can listen to them on the way to work or whatever. The shows go from the absolute basics (Learn2Play) through to the raiding part of the game (Dungeon Master), or PvP (Killing Blow) if you like that sort of thing. There are some more general shows on there too. Its recently started a 24/7 stream of old shows, nice to have on in the background whilst grinding, although you may not understand some of the stuff as the shows go back a few years and things have been changed/added/removed since their original broadcast.

If you do like reading : http://www.wowwiki.com/ is a good start. The official forums : http://forums.wow-europe.com/ whilst full of kiddie idiots can be a useful source of info, particularly the Newcomers forum for those that have just started playing. Of course wowhead.com for looking up specifics etc. There are thousands of sites out there to help and give info, youll find ones you like over time. Oh, and if you want your mind to boggle, try http://elitistjerks.com/forums.php its required reading for my guild

*edit - Just got my belf pally to 69. Oh joy, another character to grind exalted to with Shatar  :?

*edit2 - Egg, the carrot on a stick is a trinket. Simply right click on it to equip it. It will only have an effect whilst you are mounted and the effect is passive, you dont need to use it, simply have it equipped in a trinket slot whilst mounted.

Aye, that percentage wont should the benefit of anything, but as long as you have it equipped it will work. Try timing yourself running in a straight line with and without, it wont be much but itll be different.

what the fudge? maybe someone can help explain this?

I was doing a rogue mission and pickpocketed about 30 battered lockboxes.

It wont let me open them when i right click them though? it says Battered Lockbox(1) and the text is green! my lockpick skill is 80 odd.

anyone know why it wont let me open them? or is it just a bug?

on the other hand, ive gone from 23-30 this week and enjoyed it so much, in thousand needles atm and its starting to get a bit frustrating, i need a questing buddy.

The axe that the felgaurd uses has the same model as the Arcanite Reaper (Hoooooo!). Useless thesedays, but pretty nonetheless.

Fel Guard is still great for leveling (untill you get the spell dmg gear in TBC for affliction) and brilliant for PVP!

its great for levelling. I can DoT somthing, set teh Felguard on it, go DoT somthing else & the Felguard is just about done as the Enemy gets to me to take over.

Im 3/4 the way to lvl 51 & have picked up the quest for my Next Mount, Epic Mount?

I got jumped by a Horde to showed as instant Death, managed to get him down to about a 3rd of his energy before he killed me.  Never got anywhere near without my new deamon

Is there a good source on the net somewhere which shows where to mine in each different section?? I know when you mine you get the thing which shows up on the mini map where there is a vein when your near it, but is there anything else better??

I installed the addon Cartographer_Mining thinking this would show on the big map where stuff was........but it hasnt made the slightest difference it seems!!

On Level 17 now, with a 2 handed mace!!

Cartographer will keep track of where you have found viens yourself, do some more searching and you should find a database you can download and the import into Cartographer to give you all the nodes someone else has found.

Personally Ive just always gathered as Ive found, never gone looking unless its leveling up one of my high levels with a new skill.

I see this game has been nurfed..

Went off to do my Infernal quest.
It says bring a friend as the infernal you need to slay is tough.

Was only a lvl 55. 1x DoT & let him fight it out with my felguard.

2mins later I get to loot my infernal

Then took it to IF & let it loose inside the AH

In 2.3 aswell as the huge boost to the amount of XP pre-60 people get they also turned the majority of the world elites into non-elites to make soloing to 60 alot easier. They want everyone in atleast TBC before they release the new expansion.

Level 22 now. Found a better axe as well which is nice, but cant use it until level 23.....so will have to play a bit over the weekend.

Totally skint though somehow, and cant afford to do the warrior training :(

How does everyone decide which spells and abilities etc to put on their bars: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,-,= ?? As obviously you get more than fits on your bar, lol.
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on January 11, 2008, 18:00:59 PM
go to options, interface options, enable the additional bars for more space :) More or less all skills are useful and worth having on a bar somewhere, you will place them as you see fit with the most used close to hand and then rest to get lost untill you really need them and cant find them :)

On and random WoW note... Tanked Mag, High King and Gruul last night. Guild did all 3 in less than 2 hours and it was only our 2nd time mag and 3rd time Gruul :D

Got Nightbanes chest on Wednesday night pushing me over 14.5K Health unbuffed :D Will be working on leveling my engineering from 0-350 over the weekend to get the tanking googles and stam trinket. Need 12 more badges for the badge belt and then 6K honor for the S1 spell dmg mace... should easily push me over the 20K mark when buffed :)

Total Avoidance and Defense still remain too high (520 defense and 108% avoidance with HS) so is being wasted. Need more pure avoidance like dodge and more stam to take place but just finding the gear

Ive found leveling from 50-58 has gone quicker than it did to go from 25-35.

just need goldz now.

Buying gold... lots of people against it but also lots of people who do it. Got a few people in the guild that live on brought gold. Be careful tho, there are alot of dodgy sites about, Ive heard itemgarden is meant to be good.

Personally I just make the money as I need it and have completely given up on ever owning a epic flyer :P

On more high level note... We went into TK for the 1st time on Sunday, only 1 or 2 deaths on Trash and got VR down on the 2nd try. Went to go take a look at Solarian, Trash was damn easy esp with a tankadin and we got him down to 54% - just need to work on people running away when they are the bomb. Hes going down Sunday!

Alot of the gold people buy has been stolen from hacked accounts. Usually from people browsing powerleveling/goldselling sites, who then get keylogged.

I wouldnt bother buying gold, it takes away the satisfaction of getting there yourself. If youre the kind of person that cheats at single player games and still enjoys them, go for it. Otherwise grind, grind, grind.

*edit - Ive semi retired my 70 hunter/warrior, and am working on getting full S1 healing gear for my paladin, gotta love those welfare epics.  :w00t:

that is cheap :)

I bought gold when i started a character, to buy big bags and stuff, always handy at low level.

Was kinda a waste of money though, I bought 500, and ive always had over 400 left, never had a reason to spend it all really, except initially buying bags.

I find 20g is plenty enough to get a character up and running easily.

you dont neeeeeed bigger bags and stuff either, it just comes in handy.

looking back, i wish id of just moved my old character to my new server and sent money from him.

Yeah, I was just thinking for bigger bags etc etc. As its just annoying sometimes destroying things to put better things in you bag. Other things like armor and weapons I find are 90% better from pick ups rather than buying!

500k from 50 to 61 is insane!!! Im at level 25 now.

Do you guys think its possible to level from say around level 27 which I hope I will be by the end of the week to at least level 42 in two weeks?? Just my friend and I started a new character together, this being my 1st one, but hes already got a level 42 which hed rather play with and is on holiday for two weeks on Sat, and when he comes back will start playing with his level 42, so I want to be at least as good as him....if not better!

Should definatly be possible is you know where you are doing / what you are doing.

Go get an addon called Lightheaded (Alliance or Horde) and tomtom (listed on the site with lightheaded) as it will give you lots of comments on each quest in your log helping you find them and what to expect. Tomtom will give you an arrow on your screen once you know the coords from the comments :)

Egg, Once you get to 60 you might aswell go to outland tbh, the armor and weapon upgrades are just insane compared to azeroth.

Once you hit level 58 go straight to Outland.

I did my pally in 15 days /played (1-70) - and that was with quite a few low level instances, could have probably done it in 12 if I really pushed it.

Follow everyone else, youll learn the tactics soon enough. Dont get engaged in fighting in the middle - no matter the BG. I assume youre talking about Alterac Valley when you say youve looted scrap stuff - whatever you do dont capture Stonehearth, thats Bobs job! (10 points for the reference).

Main reason Im happy with my health being that is up to a point as a tankadin you have to focus purely on avoidance (Dodge, Block and Parry) to try and become uncrushable against raid bosses. This means you total miss, dodge, block and parry have to be over 102.4%, once you have this you can start focusing on getting more stam to increase health pool :)

Not going too bad now. Im at Level 34, so should be on track for gettig to Level 42 in 11 days! Plus my mount :)

Are all the auction houses linked?? As in, if I searched in Stormwind, does it have the same stuff in it like Ironforge or Booty Bay etc??

I know Im miles away, but is there one particular two-handed axe etc which is THE BEST in the game bar none, or is there a couple up there at the top? Like I say I wouldnt be getting it for a long long time, just wondered really. If I took weaponsmithing up later on, could this make a better axe than youd find/get from a quest/buy etc?? Also, same above for armor really. :)

Cheers

IF & SW are linked, Booty Bay & Tanaris arent - they are seperate & seperate from each other (I think).

Best this & that makes no difference as its all rock, paper, scissors.

Well it depends what your going for. Your main aim for your character maybe attack power, or defence, or somthing else.
I dont really use weapons except my Pet Minion. 3 DPS & I sit back, maybe with a health drain.

My main build is around Stamina ATM, its the only way I can last in outland atm as Im pond life to lvl 65+

Im a warrior, and ultimately going for an Arms/Fury master rather than all out tanking defense. So obviously big damage hits is what im going for, so im just trying to find out what Axe to look out for/aim to make/which quests to do to get the best big hitter possible.

Egg when you get into outland 95% of your gear will be replaced in the 1st load of quests :) the gear is just nuts compared to azeroth.

Chris dont stick to just axes mate, just get the highest DPS weapon regardless of type :)

Oh and once upon a time AHs were not linked, nor were the city chat channels... what dark angry days they were

Nope. I havent kept one piece of gear from outland yet.

maybe my gear I have is from outland, but nothing worth keeping in quests. - Even the battlefield rewards aint good enough for me to trade in just yet.

For me my pet does the work & I just need to survive, so its all Stamina for me. My lvl 60 chest armor has +61 stamina, my hat in the 50s, etc.

Stam wont help you much when you start instancing, nor will relying on your felguard. Youll be expected to have your imp out in most situations.

Start gathering spell damage gear now or youll regret it later.

I wont be doing instances until lvl 70 prob. so theres no point in me gathering it now. Im almost lvl 62 & i havent really played that much since turning to lvl 61

Oh & I dropped herb gathering & switched to tailoring.. so Im now tailor/leatherworker

Honestly stacking pure stam will do nothing for you, relying on your pet is all well and good but he will do alot more dmg if you start getting spell dmg stuff (spell dmg for you = attack power for him)

Plus you soon get to a point where you need to be doing alot more dmg to take stuff down, pet just wont cut it. Oh and as WG said if you do decide to jump into an instance you will be screwed over as they will want your IMP for the group buff and you wont be doing anywhere near the dmg as everyone else. IMO you should be doing instances whenever you can for nice experiance (both for leveling and getting to know how to play in a group), some of the best gear and certain faction reputation.

I find I level a lot quicker not wasting time on instances... I end up in a group full of kids & as soon as  a quest is done, someone bails out. Its fooking difficult to find a group to go right through with.

No quest takes longer than 15-20 mins. Kill 9 or 10 crits & turn in a phat reward & get at least 15k XP - I find its only worth doing them when theres a pile of quests that can also be turned in.
Last instance I done, I ended up with 50k XP in 2hours & 1 blue piece of junk

Cheers again for the link WG. Just forgot which links are where  :whoops:

Yeah Dooms I would get a mace or sword etc if they were better. Seems up to now though Im getting axes for some reason!

This might sound thick as well, but I picked up a sword, and comparing it to my axe, it seemed better. These are just random figures, but say my axe stats were 50-70 Damage, 2.80 Speed, 27 DPS. The the sword was 60-80 Damage, 3.30 Speed, but only say 24DPS...........which seemed weird as the the damage and speed was higher, but DPS was lower?!

Chris untill you get into all the theorycrafting focus on just the DPS value for now, later on when weapons also give extra stuff like more stats and lots of attack power then you have to decide which ones worth having (lower DPS with more stats or higher DPS with less) :P

ANother question  :whoops:

Im wanting to unlearn my talents so I can restructure them better. Not my Spells and Abilities, just Tallent Point, the ones you get everytime you level.

Is this the option at your class trainer? I just didnt want to experiment incase I lost my spells as well etc.

Cheers
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on January 24, 2008, 17:32:41 PM
Yep when you ask to change them you just loose your talents (and any skills those talents give)

Be warned... 1st respec 1g, next 2g i think it doubles for a while but then at 15g I think it starts jumping 5g each time to a total of 50g :)

Will start going down again after awhile but still can get pricey :) Use a talent calcuator like the one on wowhead.com to play with builds before you spend the gold
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: White Giant on January 24, 2008, 20:57:04 PM
Also you will lose any skills you have learnt via talent points, so you will have to pay to learn them again if you choose that particular talent again.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on January 24, 2008, 22:14:11 PM
Cool, cheers.

At first when I started playing, I was putting the point anywhere, as to be honest I didnt have a clue what they were! But realise now where to put them, as ive played with one of the calculators!

Do you mean youd loose the skill as in......Battle Shout for example? If I unlearnt that tallent? So Id just have to retrain at the class trainer?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: White Giant on January 25, 2008, 08:25:45 AM
I didnt really explain myself there.

Lets assume your talent build looks something like this : http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=LhrLzAboxbz

The talent Mortal Strike gives you an active ability, i.e one that you have to activate. So you would put that ability on your action bar (drag and drop from your Spells and Ability book - default shortcut key P to open that).

As you gain levels you will have to learn new ranks of Mortal Strike from your class trainer (which you have to pay for).

Now, lets assume you want to redistribute those talent points. Go to your class trainer and choose to unlearn your talents. You will now have to choose all talents again. However you will have to pay for any ranks above Rank 1 of any abilities you have access to.

E.g. A level 60 warrior will have access to 4 ranks of Mortal Strike, so everytime s/he unlearns talents they will have to pay for 3 of the 4 ranks of MS again (assuming they choose MS in their new talent build).

Things such as Battle Shout & Demo Shout cannot be unlearnt as they are core skills and are avilable no matter the talent setup (assuming the player has the correct level and has originally learnt them from the class trainer).

The cost of relearning abilties isnt too bad, however each time you respec your talents it will cost more gold, upto a current limit of 50g. This amount will decrease by 5g per month down to around 10g, assuming you dont respec for a few months.

That sounded complicated but its not. Go ahead and respec, but remember to talk to the class trainer afterwards to make sure you get the highest ranks of everything. I remember respecing slightly before a BWL raid, getting upto Chrommagus before noticing that I was still using rank 1 Aimed shot

*edit - Heres some fun that can be had in WoW : http://www.somethingawful.com/d/art-of-warcraft/epic-mounts-love.php?page=1
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on January 25, 2008, 09:20:42 AM
Indeed it sounds more complex than it is and the summary is all you really need to know... Make sure you talk to a trainer after a respec :)

The problem with talents is you dont really know whats worth it untill you get to a higher level (sometimes 70) so you will prob find yourself respeccing alot over time. Another choice is look at the warrior (or whatever class you are) section on somewhere like www.wowwiki.com and look at some example talent builds and their discrption to see what sounds good to you and base your talents on one of those templates :)

RetNAB! Just kidding.   :mutley:

Any comments on the up and comming SOC changes? (Spell damage wont have an effect).
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on January 25, 2008, 14:41:51 PM
indeed Retlol, Im still fighting for us to recruit a well geared ret for the buffs it will give (+3% crit to raid, +2% dmg to group, +12% threat for tankadin, extra set of blessings, ability to keep judge of light, wisdom and crusader on boss by himself, quite good dmg now)

Since the buff to give them a 30% threat reduction they seem alot more viable in a raid environment but with 25mans its hard to find a place for them over a pure DPS.

The SoC change is going to be... interesting. If you look at the community its being argued from both sides. By change SoC to not use spell dmg you help paladin itemization becuase its a stat they can drop off gear (loose the Spell dmg and focus on AP/Crit) but alot are saying its going to nerf the overall dmg for the T5/T6 people.

Blizzard will have to change all the teir and pvp gear to reflect the SoC change as spell dmg will become pretty useless except for the few SoR retadins out there (FAIL! :P)

Being horde I get SoB which is overall a better PVE spell as it does more dmg and also means you get a small amount of healing giving you some mana back. SoC for PVP only :)

Ret is more fun when not doing main spec as its very different, plus the gear is easier to get hold of.

Either level another alt or start working towards a ret set (ragesteel set, pvp boots, bracers, belt, and then Gorehowl/Dispair from kara are all a good start) :) If you cant get one of the 2hs from kara or the 2h mace from gruuls then there are a couple BoE BS weapons you can look at, I just got the recipe for a epic sword that drops in Heroic Ramps that looks quite good

mt interesting experience this week: RFC! haha, i know, lame instance, but its the first time ive done RFC with decent people who werent noobs, but also werent pro (twats) making out that theyre leet and everyone else is thick.

So yeah, had a good run of rfc for the first time of my life, really enjoyed it. no good pala gear tho :( RFK son, normally has lots of mail gear :D

also the new blood elf land, silvermoon is it? I find is much busier/friendly than barrens etc, maybe its because unlike the barrens you dont get lots of lvl 40s running through etc, if youre in ghostlands, the only real reason is low lvl grind. Which makes it easy and unintimidating to find a group :D lovin it.

Update on my progress in the game... Guild did 1 shotting Void Reaver and Solarian last night and then downed Alar for the 1st time :D

Next sunday...Hydross!

Well got my mount yesterday. Went for the striped nightsabre, which is nice! Still at level 40, but would like to get to level 45 by next Saturday, but dont know if im going to be able to get that high by then as im working all week.

Ive only done one instance which was Deadmines........do you normally get XP for doing instances? Or does it depend on what level you are? I did DM when I was new at the game, and didnt know what I was doing really. Then I just thought Id run though it again last night on my own, but didnt get anything for doing it. Is this because im too high level now, or because ive already done it? Think im going to do Scarlet Monastery soon! Need to get a team together though.

you can get a ton of XP in the right group - ie a group that dont have people quiting every 5mins. Run a dungeon through should pick you up anything from 50k-150k, Make sure you pick up all available missions for the instance dungeon though.

Did the 1st SM tonight.....was easy, got fcuk all XP, lol. Went in to the 2nd SM and was hard! There was 3 warriors, one which was level 20, a hunter, and summat else....but no healer, so we struggled too much, so everyone quit! lol

Level 20 is waaaaaaay too low for SM.

This is one of the first instances where a proper group setup is often needed.

Tank (feral druid/prot pally/prot warrior)
Healer
3xDPS (preferably with some Croud control).

Going in and hoping to just DPS everything down will probably fail.

The other guy was a Mage, and he was decent actually as hed ran it before. I tanked, and think I did ok and kept the agro off the mage. The level 20 did nothing, as he just stood back so he didnt die......Also, are hunters any use really in instances?

I wasnt too bothered though, as I just wanted to get to know where SM was tbh. Can always try again!
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on January 29, 2008, 11:13:59 AM
Hunters can do damn nice dmg (top 4 people in our 25mans are 2lock and 2hunters) and also some basic CC with traps but they have a very bad reputation with nubs.

Good hunter will pull 1 mob to trap, keep them trapped, do very good dmg, dismiss pet before jumping off a ledge (otherwise pulls alot of stuff), keeps pet on passive, turns off growl.

Bad hunter will pull aggro off the tank and die, not use traps, just autoshoot, pull half the instance when you jump off a ledge by not dismissing pet, have pet on aggresive, growl off the tank so he cant keep aggro, oh and the best ive had... Not even use a pet.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on January 29, 2008, 17:36:53 PM
Yeah, we had a bad hunter today actually! Didnt really seem to do anything! Did Uldaman was ok actually.....thought Id get more XP still though....about 1/3 of level 40.

Is it worth me carrying a shield and one handed weapon do you think? As I only use 2 hander normally, and because I didnt have a shield they didnt want me to be the tank, there was a druid or tauren or something who had slightly more HP than me, so he tanked.
Title: Warcraft again!

Yeah :)

So, in your guys opinions, do you think I should spend the money and get a shield a 1H weapon? As I was building a Soloing/PVP warrior really, with mainly Arms and Fury tallent points. So in this sense, 2Hers would be the way to go.  But would I still work well as a tank with a good shield and 1Her attached rather just the current 2Her...............OR should I not worry about shield etc. I dont mind getting them if I will be of use as a tank, but as and arms/fury build.........if that makes sense!lol

Cheers again lads :)

Its always advisable to carry a sword and board as a warrior. I wouldnt pay too much for them though, just have a look for some quests around your level with them as rewards, they should be enough to cope with the odd instance.

In your opinion guys as a warrior, do you think I should re-spec for 100% tanking? Just I was thinking, as a warrior, for raids/instances etc , the main point of a warrior is tanking really isnt it.....
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: White Giant on February 10, 2008, 14:05:01 PM
Ah the age old question.

Put simply, stay as a DPS warrior for leveling, maybe with 15-20 points in prot for the odd instance, and then when you hit late 60s respec to full prot.

Remember though you will be quite limited as to what you can do when full prot. You can still grind, albeit slowly, but PvP becomes painful and you will constantly be spammed by people looking for a tank :)

Tanking high end is arguably the most difficult thing in the game, dont take it on lightly.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on February 10, 2008, 15:36:04 PM
once upon a time warriors were very much needed for tanking, their DPS sucked so it was an easy choice... nowadays with buffs to bear and pally tanking not so much.

We are doing T5 content at the moment and only have 1 prot warrior in the guild, our 2nd MT is prot pally (me) and a load of ferals for OTs. On the other hand we have 2 fury warriors and 1 MS warrior.

Do what you want mate, if you like tanking then spec prot at 60 (dont need to before that) if you like DPS then stay MS or Fury, it will just be harder to find a group higher levels (but still very much possible)

Thanks for the advice guys.

Think Ill stay how I am for the time being, as Im Arms/Fury at the moment, and do enjoy random PVP (when I win, lol). Plus im only at Level 50, so might have a re-think like you suggested when im later 60.

Well, im at level 53 now, so will order Burning Crusade soon I think!

Just one stupid question.....ive read you should buy a portal to Shattrath........Im guess you just ask people to buy 1.....but how does it work?? Where is the portal etc once youve bought it?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on February 17, 2008, 18:35:46 PM
You dont have to mate, the main advantage of getting portaled to shatt at a low level is you can set your hearth there and then use the portals to get to any major city. When your close to going their on your own soon you can just wait till then ;)

Now.......Armorsmith or Weaponsmith..........both dont seem that good tbh. A bit like Blacksmithing.....im at level 240 or somthing, and havent used one item which ive made yet!! And looking at the armor/weaponsmithing I dont know if Id use much from that either..........there is some decent stuff, but by the time I can make a mint axe for example, im guessing Ill already have a better one from questing/dungeons etc.

Unfortunately thats pretty true. Sometimes the fun of a profession is getting it to 375 and then never having to bother with it again  8-)

Blacksmithing is STUPIDLY expesnive to get to 375... I been stuck on 369 for awhile ;)

Armorsmithing is very crappy atm, only 1 lvl 70 item from it that isnt actually that good considering the mats needed to upgrade it twice. They are promising some more stuff in WoLK

The Master Axe/sword/mace smith weapons are nice but dont think you will be seeing the top end weapons from it for quite awhile.

Oh a side note just finsihed raid and 2 shotted Leo on 1st time at him... That brings us upto 3/4 TK and 5/6 SSC :)

Our current raid nights are looking quite good now we have the strats and pulls down

Wednesday: Hydross, Lurker, Tidewalker and Karathrass if time.
Tursday: Alar, Solarian, VR and then Mag if time
Sunday: Leo and then Vashj tries methinks (Kara if didnt manage him on Wednesday)

Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on February 18, 2008, 20:36:08 PM
Yep mate, Im doing reasonably high level content and it would seem, going from what WG was saying, hes end game.

The game doesnt really start until 70, you need to get to 70, get the best 5man stuff you can and then if you want to continue find yourself a nice Karazhan guild and start there (10man raid), after that is 25man content :)

Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on February 18, 2008, 22:17:42 PM
Do you not find it hard getting 10 or 25 people together for things?? I find it hard enough getting 5 people to start and instance, and even harder getting them 5 to stay the whole instance through!!
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on February 18, 2008, 22:40:26 PM
To get a PUG (pick up group) for raids is not recommended at all (fine for 5mans)... one it can be a pain to find the group and people really need to know what they are doing / work together.

Getting 10 / 25 people together for a raid when in a raiding guild is alot easier as you organise nights, do signups, etc etc and when it comes to raid everyone is prepared, everyone is on Vent to know whats going on, you have a single person leading and things tend to go alot smoother than the PuGs you will be used to :P

Example (http://thelegacyoflegends.net/phpraider/) << some random guild as our PHPRaider is locked down so have to signup to see :P

edit: wow their signups are complex! They have slots for each class & spec aswell as guest places?! We have signup slots for DPS, Main Tanks, Off Tanks, Healers... much easier :P

Congratulations, youve reached the next level of questions.  :nana:

Raiding is what this game is about, PVP/Leveling/Professions/etc are the bit before the real game. How do you manage to get 25 people together? Before Burning Crusade was released, it was 40 man raids, and my guild used to have 20 people waiting outside, incase anyone in the raid dropped out.

Basically you need to join a raiding guild. Id start by getting as many decent blue drops from 5 man instances as possible - dungeon set 3 is a great start (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28205 is the breastplate for tanking warriors, it is part of a set i.e. the more pieces you have, the more bonuses you will recieve, e.g. on this set if you have 2 pieces of the set all of your shout abilities cost 2 less rage, 4 pieces means your Charge ability generates an additional 5 rage - whilst not brilliant, they are a start).

Once you have a good amount of blue gear for your class/spec you should apply to a starter raiding guild, in your case that will be a Kharazan guild. That is the first 10 man instance in TBC (http://www.wowhead.com/?zone=2562). It is very simple in comparison to the 25 man instances, but is great way to be introduced to raiding.

From what youve said chris, youre guild is crap. Use it and abuse it. Get groups where you can and dump them when you have the gear. Yep, thats a horrible thing to do but you wont get anywhere with that guild youre in by the sounds of it.

Once again WoWWiki comes through : http://www.wowwiki.com/Raiding_for_Newbies

Niceone, thanks again lads! Always good info!!

Think Ill look for a new guild when Im nearer level 70. Im finding it hard to get decent gear at the moment tbh. I was duelling a random guy one day, and lost everytime. But he was quite helpful and told me some tips etc. He said though (not in a nasty way), that my gear was crap.......for example, my health is around 3400, but he said his warrior was nearer 5000 for the same level 53. So he said to do instances, which obviously made sense, for the drops. He said to go to Sunken Temple.....which I did, but the drops werent that good really. I looked at wowhead and looked to see what Plate drops there were, but again I think my stuff was better anyway! I know armor etc isnt as important at my level, but it would be nice to have some good stuff.
Also, when I get to Level 70, and am in Outlands........is it quite easy to get good new weapons/armor? As I see some warriors with fcuking mint stuff, and just wondered how hard it was to actually get? Like Epic helemts with 1100 Armor, and mint Stam/Strength etc on them?

As soon as your in outland the items improve a stupid amount even off the 1st few quests. You can start them at 58 if you wish but I always way till 60 before heading there.

Health wise I cant remember what sort of level I was at with that level, but as you are DPS you can just focus on STR/Attack Power/Crit. If they come with Stam for some extra health great!

Epic stuff you will get from high level crafted or when you start Karazhan (unless you do the PVP grind at 70 but thats not that great for doing raiding). There are some nice blues which you should work towards when you hit 70. If you are staying DPS check out http://www.maxdps.com - click warrior (Arms or Fury depending what you are) and change the options on the left to only include 5mans, Rep and Quests. and then look at the highest DPS gear you can get.

Might help you.

http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Outland&n=Korath

Thats my tanking gear (I think, cant see it from work) and thats after progressing Karazhan (10man) > Gruul (25man) > Mag (25man) > TK (25man) > SSC (25man) and there are still alot of drops I need from as early as Kara.

Update from my wowness... We had our 1st 3 attempts on Vashj last night and man that fight is insane!

1st time we didnt get too far and was more of a test to see what is actually going on, 2nd time was 65% and 3rd was 75%ish but we stayed up longer.

As tank my job isnt that bad but for the DPS its a bit chaotic... going to make more than our usually 2 nights to get this one down methinks :)

Nice Dooms! Im not too sure how Ill be at 70, as I work 4 different shifts a month, so wouldnt really be able to organise much round my shifts. As at the moment Im ok levelling my character and doing the odd instance, as no-one is relying on me.

Im half a level away from 60, and will hopefully hit that tonight, as I have quite a few Qs to hand in! If I get my new mount, do you need the training with it as well? Or can you buy the new mount, then train when youve got enough Gs? As ive only got about 180G.

Also, I still havent ventured to Outland yet, as I thought it would be easier at Level 60....so waited. But, would it be better to say get to level 62, then go to outland?? Or go at 60!??!

Cheers

The second you hit 60 abandon all Azeroth quests you have, and head to Outland. The XP there is considerably greater than any quest in Azeroth.

Regarding the mount, you can buy it, but its pointless without the riding skill, as it cant be used (without the skill).

Since 2.3 not the case anymore but I found the hellfire quests alot closer bunched and quicker to do so works out quicker ;)

I would say go at 60 and just start doing the quests, you dont NEED a 60 mount (my 65 hunter still using 60% mount) but its nice. Just buy the skill when you can.

The quest rewards and random gear drops in Outland are just soooo much better than what you get in Azeroth, makes you feel like you are getting somewhere again :)

Hehe. Classic mistake.

You need the previous rank of riding skill to buy the next.

75 - 125 - 225 - 300.

If you want the epic flyer, you gotta buy 75, 125, and 225 before you can buy the 300 skill. Tis a pain huh?  :gag:

Is there any Warrior only quests in outland? I cant seem to find any on the net. Just for the rewards really....

Also, this might sound stupid, but are epic items actually better than a green item? For example, earlier when I was playing, I got a shield as a reward, it was a green item, with a lot better armor, sats (like stam, agil etc), then my purple shield which I was currently using.......so I sold the purple shield and am now using the green on. Im at work, doing nothing now, and was just thinking about it. The purple shield did have a "chance on hit" thing, but Im sure my newer shield would have been the better one TBH.

stuff in outland are much better than azeroth stuff.

I cant recall looting anything & using before outland. Now I use quite a few quest rewards, including a few blue request rewards.

The only class specific quest in Outland is the druid epic flight form quest. Pre-TBCm the biggest class specific quest was the hunter quest (STUPIDLY hard before the nerf). The shaman quest gave a sh*te reward, and the priest quest which was completable with the use of a mod. Paladin/Warlock mount quests could also be considered class specific.

A purple item isnt always better than a green. If you can link the two Im sure we could explain it.
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Sweenster on February 27, 2008, 22:18:11 PM
Basically the item type is down to level

Grey (Normal) = The item level is equivalent to the level you can equip it (Though tbh it doesnt really count)
Green (Uncommon) = The item level is slightly higher level than the level you can equip it
Blue (Rare) = The item level is fairly higher than the level you can equip it
Purple (Epic) = The item level is much higher than the level you can equip it
Orange (Legendary) = The item level is incredibly higher than the level you can equip it

So a green item can be much better than a purple if the level of the item is high enough that the equivalent level of the item is higher

All this is based on "equivalent" levels of items
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on February 27, 2008, 22:59:04 PM
I see, so it was good at level 45 or when ever I bought it, but at 60, its no longer really an epic item.

This was it:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=1169

And ive now got this:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29919

Actually, its not much better to be honest.........but I liked the fact it had a lot more Stam, plus a bit of strength and agility.

I also picked this up after my 2nd or 3rd quest in Outland:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29908

Which was a lot better than what I had! Although its probably still quite poo. Just want a nice enchant on it to make it glow now, lol.

game starts for me now.... not much fun being 70 & only having 80g

cant find anyone to do a dire maul run either. Thought Id take the cheaper option for the 150 riding skill.. then only 1k gold from a flying thing

whats the best way to farm gold? & whats the score with xp now?
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: Bacon on March 03, 2008, 01:29:53 AM
Primals, i.e. Life, Mana, Fire, they all sell well and are easy to farm, its just how long until you get bored.
On top of this you will get green drops to vendor or disenchant, and the trash loot from a good farming session can rack up the golds.
If your a herbalist, go farm life, you can then herb the giants, and they can drop black lotus which still sells pretty good.

Professions, good way to make money, any of the gathering proffs, just go and farm as much herbs, ore, leather as you can, there is still a good market
on most servers for all the range of materials as some people cant be assed to go farm themselves.

One good way, if you want to make some good money, get your 70 char, and level up a gathering profession, you can do most 1-375 in a days work if you
try your best :D and then sell all the stuff on the Ah. Once done, just cancel the proff and start again, this a good way to bring in constant gold.

Quests at lvl 70, you no longer need / benefit from xp, but what you will find is the quests you still have now have increased gold reward instead of part gold / part xp, so its a good way to make some extra gold.

Daily Quests, you can find these in terokkar forest, shattrath, blades edge mountains etc, doing these will net you say 100g a day, more or less, + drops ofc.

I could go on and on but i wont :P

That covers the best ways to make gold.

Im very lazy and hate farming, so I just go on lots of instance runs. With a decent group you can get 2 or 3 heroics done in a few hours - assuming you dont wipe etc, it can be very profitable (gold, green drops + shards from disenchanted boss drops).

sounds like to much work.
Ill prob just wont bother playing much until the new one comes out.
Dont see much point doing quests & not getting XP & im not going to farm.

10-15g for each quest when you 70 is a nice quick way to get some cash (and selling the rewards)

I hate grinding and generally always poor (esp as I play so many alts)

Right, Ive respecd now, and put 15 points in to my protection tree, so hopefully I will be able to tank better.

I know Ive asked about armor before.....but still arent too sure what to go for. Ive been questing a bit in Outland, and have got better gear as rewards! But, I would have thought getting a proper dungeon set would be more beneficial (sp?). So, I thought getting the Dungeon Set 1 would be a start........but it seems pretty poo!! Some of my items, like my helmet already have more armor than the dungeon set helm, and better Stam, Agil etc points too.

So, what would be a good set which will last for a while, and isnt impossible to get? As in.....not needing to run a thousand instancess to get one piece etc??

This is the Dungeon Set 1, which seems quite poo IMO.

D1 was before TBC came out so as you say its a bit poo :P

Just take anything thats an upgrade untill 70, then start looking at what you head towards next (D3 stuff isnt bad at all)

Didnt realise the D1 was before TBC! lol. Shouldnt I aim for any specific armor between 60-70? Or just leave it til like you said at 70, and concentrate on getting the best stuff then?

found an easy way to make money...

Main Character being 365 & 370 in cloth & leathermaking, I buy up all the leather & cloth & then make the easiest lvl 61 stuff
1st Alt is 298 Alchem & 275 disenchent. I disenchant all the items usually getting 3-4 arcane dust or 1 or essence. Dust sells for 1.25G each & the large essence around 8G
Also buy up any weapons under 10G as they usually have essences - just spent 45G on a few weapons, returned 4 dust & 7 large essences. So an easy 15g in 5mins :-D

Also main is out questing when the AH is quiet & im mailing back all the greens to my alt. The money is rolling in thick & fast. Up to about 200Gold & around 300Gold in value on the AH.
Though that 300g will be reinvested in cloths, leathers & cheap weapons.
Also bought the basic flying mount for 100g

Slightly more pr0 advice there, and has been well known to make people some serious cash, especially at later levels (anyone remember Runecloth belts?).

Just seems like loads of effort to me. :D

well... I made 150g over night :-D
re-invested it in 30 stacks of netherweave cloth that sells for 2.75 during the week & 3.50 at the weekend.

Still have money for any weapons that pop up between now & the weekend

Heres a nice little post made by a chap on the blizz forums regarding tanking :

Quote
I have a total of 18 (mindnumbing) Shadow Labs Normal attemps, just to get one part of the Bold Armor set (the shoulders)! Still I am not for the idea supplied by in OP. Let me explain you why...

When you are new to this game (as a tank) and you havent done any or not much tanking experience pre-tbc, the only tanking lessons you can get here are the normal instance (specifically pre-kara instances).
You can read all the available theory of tanking on ElitishJerks or Wowwiki, yet that is only 25% of what you need to become a good tank. The rest is simply experience which you only get by trying and failing.

There are sooo many tanking lessons and so many things to be aware of. Many say that warriors are extremely gear dependant and that is true, but gear is only the smaller part of the whole picture.

I laugh at my own actions sometimes, especially at the beginning period of my serious tanking career, how naiev and foolish I was. I wiped numerous of times because I wasnt aware of certain things.

I never thought that overgearing a place could be so bad for the group (it is frustrating because you are constantly rage starved at easy trash and are unable hold aggro because of it; reason is, too much avoidance).

What is your best aggro generation move?
How to hold of aggro over more then 6 targets when no CC is available (Shattered Halls and Shadow Labs challenge)?
How to not break any CC with Thunder Clap (warrior issue)?
When to use Heroic Strike as extra aggro move?
When to let and mob run and when to chase it or intervene/intercept him?
Am I in danger of pulling an extra patrol?
Is/are the healers able to keep up?
How/what are the dpsers doing? Are they able to dps well or do I need to move?
Where to move next when this next abyssal drops unlucky? Will my healers still be in reach and out of reach of Shadow Nova (Prince Malchezaar)?
What is the best avoidance stat for the next encounter; Parry/Dodge/Block?
Is that boss a spike dmg danger or can I slack on avoidance and use more threat generation gear?

These questions are just a tip of iceberg that floats under water, but it is very much the things the warrior tank deals with. Paladin- and Druid tanks have many similar issues but also individual issues. You cant learn them all out of the book, you need to experience them. An open mind is required for this and you should be aware that many things are only learned by trial and error (of course at the cost of your party members frustration and annoyance).

Life of a tank isnt about roses, but these challenges make the tanks life so interested.
So yes, I think the existance mentioned issue in the OP is required to be there, hence I dont support the idea which is provided. I hope this is constructive enough.

Regards,
Maeco

More advanced info coming:

I really enjoy tanking (obivously otherwise I wouldnt be a MT in guild) and I believe Im a good tank, advantage came from tank being my 3rd 70 so knew the game by then, but Ive also spent alot of time in groups with very bad tanks over the years so here is some advice related to WGs post above and my previous experiance as both tank & healer....

As the tank in the group you are the leader most of the time, you need to learn the pulls in each instance (what to pull, how to pull it, when to pull it without grabbing an add, what needs to be killed 1st, what needs to be CCd) you need to mark targets for kill order (Skull 1st, X 2nd, moon sheep etc, these are what alot of people use) this allows you to focus more aggro generation on the mob that everyon will attack so you dont loose it.

I dont have much multi mob tanking experiance with Warriors so not sure how you go about dealing with that (other than Demo shout & Thunderclap), Im guessing once you have enough threat on the skull you can start tabbing to the other mob around you and throw on a couple sundar armor (highest aggro attack methinks).

This sort of organisation in a group will 1) make the wow vets in the group feel better, 2) make you feel better as a tank as mobs wont be running everywhere, 3) should make everything run alot smoother.

As with most things it comes with experiance and it can be hard to do with Pugs, getting into a good guild will get you alot of helpful poeple who will take their time with you when tanking in instances and throw you tips and suggestions as you go through. Obvisouly you cannot lead, mark, pull very well if you dont know the instance like the back of your hand but it all comes with practise :)

Couple of things that make me so angry when I group with a warrior tank which you would be best not to repeat is:

USE DEFENSIVE STANCE! Its for tanking, its 10% less dmg you take and alot of threat! Warriors tanking in Berserker stance make me cry inside.

Dont try and tank with a 2h, i dont care how uber you think you are.

Im sure there are many other things in my mind which I want to say but I think I may of repressed those bad bad times :P

I want to quit my guild, but im leader.. I need to transfer ownership to my alt (theres only me & my alt in the guild)

as both need to be on the same time, this aint possible. - Can someone create a character on Twilight Hammer so I can transfer ownership to you, then I log in with my alt & you transfer ownership to my alt

Bit pointless being in a guild on my own. I want to run raids & dungeons for better armor

Ive made a sh*te load gold like this :) but tbh i didnt read through the other 20 pages and see what proffs you had, cus im lazy :P

Big money atm the moment is Jewelcrafting, or rather Prospect ores for Blue (rare) gems, and then either selling uncut or cutting them to fancy gems :)
Im not a JC but i pay someone 2g a stack to prospect ores, and 1g a cut on every gem, so in theory

20 stacks = 40g
will get 10-20 gems from this, so 10-20g more for cuts, depending on how lucky you are with the actual gems you get, noted some are worth 10g some 50g, you can make an absolute mint.

Also if you Prospect thorium ores you get the old gems like Emeralds, Azerothian diamonds etc, with less people farming pre tbc ores, these gems rise in price dramatically on some servers but people always need them to lvl trade skills so they sell rather well, so i find its still worth farming thorium now and again.

Doing stuff like that is a very quick way to get alot of cash but involves alot more effort than Im willing to put in (Things like Auctioneer addon does make this slightly easier). When Im not on my main raiding or grinding towards that stupid rep/extra peice of gear, Im normally working on a new alt.

Amusingly Ive made more money with my lvl15 alt than I have with my main for quite some time... leveling jewcrafting and selling the level 8-20 rings and necklaces for 1g-3g each and since they mainly only use copper and cheap gems i got millions of its pure profit from something I had to do anyway :)

Well, Im level 63 now!! Just started to get my plate armor with sockets.............Whats best to put in these for me? Fury Warrior (going prot at 70).

Depending on amount of sockets would it be:
1. Stamina
2. Agility
3. Strength

In that order?? ^^ Also, what are the relevance of the different coloured sockets? Like Red, Yellow etc. And finally........once you have put a Jewel in the socket, can it be removed??

Cheers
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: Eggtastico on March 21, 2008, 23:27:38 PM
no jewels cant be removed

Blue Red Yellow usually only have one stat
Purple (can be used in red & blue), green (blue/yellow) orange (red/yellow) usually have 2x stats

Ran Kara Yesterday & Today. Took out everything except Illian. We just lacked that little bit - though my job was to just SoC the adds, which was easy enough until my pet died (no more dark pact)

No good loot either :-( most of it got sharded.

Blessings Deck

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31890

I hear this is what you want mate

Quote
Just got the deck this morning, it is awesome for warlocks, damn near procs off everything. Banish, All types of lock fears, non damaging curses like CoS and CoE, just about everything you can bascially cast. It will not proc off dot ticks per say just inital application of the dot. Wands proc the melee side of the card, which you can have both melee and spell damage buffs going at the same time.

Ps. your lock is coming along nicely :)

Very nice drop mate!!

What would you guys suggest I socket this drop with I got today? http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24363

I do tank, so one stamia, one Agility, and one Strength etc?? Im still not sure how Gems work, as when you look at red ones, they can be either Stamina, Strength etc....so what do the different colours mean? Also, say if there is a +6 Stamina red gem in the guild bank, could I probably find a +10 Stamina red gem elsewhere?? Or is there a limit on the red +attribute?
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: Bacon on March 27, 2008, 15:18:59 PM
Gem Slots

Red Gem in Red Slot
Blue Gem in Blue Slot

Then you get the set bonus.

But also, some gems will sit in 2 colour slots, and act as either of those colours, so you still get the set bonus.

However, set bonuses are not always good, so gem the item with the stats your need the most, some warrior will throw in stamina, some will throw some other stat and just put 3 of the same gem in and lose the set bonus if they consider it worthless.

Also, to get an idea, Blue Quality Rare Gems are what you should aim for atm. So +12 Stam or +8 Agi/Str etc, like Living Ruby, Dawnstone, Talasite, Nightseye, Noble Topaz, Star of Elune are all Blue Quality Rare Gems.

When you finally get pimped in decent Raid Epic drops you can go for Epic Quality purple gems because obviously they are more expensive.

However if your a guild Prot tank , some guilds will give Epic quality gems to their tanks, because the gems needed to make them can be found in the higher end raid  dungeons.

A simple gauge would be:

Green Quality Gems in Green Gear
Blue Quality Gems in Blue Gear / Epic Gear
Purple Quality (epic) Gems in Epic Gear

But as said Blue gems to Blue Gear or even Pre Kara / Kara Epic Gear (and beyond). then leave Epic Gems for later, like i dunno MH/BT/SP. but i dont tank. Im a mage and i use Blue Gems in all pre MH Epics. But it might change soon, as the epic gems prices are falling i will start using them, but ill most likely save for gear MH and above.

Cool, I see now, cheers mate. So if its a crap bonus, I might want to stack it with tons of Stam for example!!

So, with the chest piece, I shouldnt really be going for Vendor bought Gems?  :whoops: Not that I have yet, but by the sounds of it they are crap, and I should get them from else where....like crafted etc?

Edit:
For example for my Red Socket, I should be going for the Gems in blue writing here: http://www.wowhead.com/?items=3.0 and if possible stay away from the green and white Gems!
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: SteveF on March 28, 2008, 09:22:02 AM
Yup - its a while since Ive played but iirc

some early lvl 70 gear will for example have blue red and yellow gem sockets for example but you might be going for max stamina or max damage or something.  In which case you might just ignore the colours and be better to put all red dmg gems in.

Personally Id never bother with vendor bought gems unless you were likely to replace the item in a day or so - theyre useless compared to the blue ones you can have cut by any jewelcrafter and usually worse than the green jewelcrafter ones.  Auction House is your friend :)

RE your edit: yes.  (Most of) the blue ones listed are the jewelcrefter made ones you want to be using.  They use a blue gem from mining and then the jewelcrafter makes whichever one you want.

Note: you can also use mixed colour gems to get the better benefits and the socket bonuses.  Say youre stacking red gems but have a blue socket on an item.  Use a purple gem.  That counts as both a red and blue socket. :)

I dont think I have ever seen a X-51 on Twilight hammer, the fact its a rare card means it will remain a lot rarer than anything thats a regular drop IG :)

I want a special mount  :heehaw: :heehaw: Wont be getting one though. Doubt Ill be getting an epic flying mount to be honest, as I dont see how you can get 5000g for it.......even though in Shattrath, there seems to be 90% of the people in there with a flying mount, I dont understand how they do it to be honest.

Im level 68 now, and will ding 69 this week I imagine.

A good way to get a head start on the gold for a epic mount is to stop doing quests, just grind your way to 70 in Shadowmoon Valley farming motes of fire, sell the primals then do all the quests you have left at 70 for gold instead of XP.

Really isnt hard to get up to 5k tbh :)

Cool, thanks for the advice. I will try grinding.....but find it really boring to be honest! But if im going to get a lot of money it probably will be worth it!! I could imagine it taking a while though grinding from 69-70!

or do what I done... Arcanoweave Bracers

Make em less than 18g, shard them into large prismatic shards & sell em for 25g
(6 Netherweave Bolts 12 Arcane Dust & 2 Rune Threads)

LPS have now dropped to 21g on my server though.. but I still managed to get from zero gold
to 4000g + bought my shattered hand title, Storms Deck, Blessings Deck & the mats for Belt of Blasting

I was selling 100 Shards a day on a good day.

Once hit 70, Ive actually stopped doing the XP quests & just do the dailies.. Way I see it, it will be easier
griding when the next expansion is out.
Fishing, Cooking, other 3 around shattrath, BG daily, 3x Skyguard ones, the Isle + a dungeon takes up most of the day.

They are higher end Tailoring though arent they? Im a BS.....so would be a lot of effort levelling the tailoring wouldnt it.

Dinged 69 as well this morn :)

Cheers mate!!

I just realised today that I could get a flying mount for 900g inc flying skill!! I thought there was only one and that was 5000g. So I do have a flying mount now, just not an epic.

Is there an easy list/map etc for all the dailes? Also, are the dailies the same everyday? For example if today a quest is to kill 10xAir Elements, will that be the same for ever??

Also, getting Badges of Justice etc......how easy is it to get these?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 04, 2008, 03:45:04 AM
I didnt really start doing many dailies so dont know about them (there is tons of info kicking about tho).

Badge of Jutice... Hmmmm well you get them from Heroic dungeon runs (1 per boss) and depending on class depends on how easy you will to do them. As a tank for example I found Kara easier than alot of Heroics and getting a good group can be a right bitch.

Once you start doing Kara you get 22 badges for a complete run, so thats 22 easy badges a week. I believe Raid bosses now drop them aswell but that was in a patch after i left so I cant confirm.

Here is a list of dailies http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/dailies.html?x

As Dooms said Kara will be the first place you seriously start farming Badges from, when you get geared up a bit you will also be able to get them from Heroic dungeons (if its the heroic daily you with get a extra 2 Badges from the hand in on top of the 3 from the run) also there is a chance with the dailies that give Shattered Sun Supplies (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=35232) as the reward might have one inside.

Hehe my sub to WoW finishes tomorrow and I havent been on a Raid since February, but Ive been looking at some old kill movies and  Im really tempted to start playing and Raiding again,
if my old guild will have me back that is :P I had been playing with some of them since 2005, but I had a stupid row with some of the other officers about how to handle the lack of progress and people not turning up for raids...etc! which we were experiencing a lot of at the time,
so I decided to migrate to join a "better guild" which a IRL mate recommended on a PVE server, but they sucked hard and were unpleasant with it!!! I quit after the 3rd Raid lol  :P

So my old Lock main is now lost on a PVE server(going to a PVE server from a PVP one was really dumb on my part tbh :whoops:),
but luckily I have a spare lvl 70 PVP Lock: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Twilight%27s+Hammer&n=Iliena but it means starting again grinding professions, crafted items, rep and going back to Kara!!! :gag:
but at least its a lot easier to gear up now with Badges...etc than when I first hit 70 on my old Lock :D

organised confusion needs more warlocks if your looking for a guild on TH - were at Kara & its the lack of numbers that are stopping us. Weve been to gruul, but had to take about 4 or 5 pugs.

Cheers for the info guys :)

Seems quite difficult getting decent gear......as the decent gear seems to drop from Heroics etc anyway....and im far too undergeared to start running heroics TBH....and probably Kara as well!! So isnt too easy at the moment, seens im totally gear dependant!

Ive started doing BGs to get honour to get a shield etc, but otherwise seems fairly hard!!

Does you guild run Kara?
Title: Re:Warcraft again!

My guild did run when I was at a lower level, but think they might have stopped now for some reason.........How does Kara actually work? You do part 1, and can stop for the night, then continue once youve done that? Can your guild re-run part 1 etc? I undertand its just a huge instance.....and hard obviously! Is the early part of kara easier than most heroics? (sorry for the questions)

Ive got a bit of crafted stuff like the Felsteel Set, which has helped.

Chris tanking gear is abit harder to get upto spec once you hit 70 (be happy your not a tankadin). Check out the offical wow forums, in the class sections there are normally lists that tell you what is good to aim for pre-kara. (cant get onto game sites at work otherwise I could link).

Kara works on a weekly reset (Wednesdays). Each time a boss is killed that instance is saved. If you are in a kara instance when a boss is killed you are also saved to that instance. This means your 10man group has 1 week to clear the place, you cant join another group to go in and re-do bosses, you CAN have un-saved people join your saved instance to bulk up numbers if the orginal 10 arent online.

Trash mobs despawn a couple hours after their boss is killed, fail to kill the boss in that time they will respawn and you will have to reclear.

Cheers Dooms. I use wowhead quite a lot, and got a list of gear from there, which Im trying to get! Im not doing too bad although Im not getting the best pre-kara gear they recommend, Im trying to get the crafted/quest items first, as these are obviously quite easy to get rather than heroic badge rewards, or heroic drops etc.

As for Kara.........So if you complete level 1 and 2 for example on Monday and Tuesday, by Wedsnesday what you have done will be reset? Think I might have to start thinking about moving guilds to be honest as Im sure they dont run anymore thinking about it. Although even if I just run and kill the 1st boss with them it might be worth it might it, just to try and get a decent drop!
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 11, 2008, 22:52:36 PM
Indeed, resets are every wednesday regardless of when you start it.

If you donwload a couple mods (Atlas and Atlas Loot) you can see boss drops for every instance in game and make a list of whats worth going for and what isnt. Generally each boss in Kara drops a nice tanking peice but you have to get lucky. Ive ran it way over 20 times on my tankadin and Moroes has never dropped his tanking peice and maiden hasnt dropped either of the 2 she carrys :(

Getting a Kara guild shouldnt be a problem, there always guildes at that level and becuase its only 10 people it doesnt involve alot of effort to arrange. Keep your eyes open on the offical wow forums (Guild section).

Be warned tho you might get frustrated quickly ;) when we started off Kara it was taking us 3 nights to clear the place and alot of wipes, its a whole new level above normal 5mans. After a couple of months tho when everyone has tactics sorted and gear has slightly improved you will do a whole clear in a few hours (2hours 45min was last count methinks).

2hrs 45? Thats good going Took us nearly 5 hours tonite - everything except netherspite (inc. Animal boss for a laugh!)

I was the only DPS hitting over 1k (well my DPS was 1500) though.. Another 2x just under & the other 2x 500-600  :gag:

1 tankadin to AOE tank everything (Me! :D)
1 Main overgeared healer
2 Hybirds (DPS/Healer & DPS/Tank)
3 Locks
3 Random DPS

Above setup with everyone in T4/T5 makes kara very quick. Curator is just funny when he dies 4seconds into 1st Evo from 3x CoDs.

Of course everyone out gears the place and we are just there to farm badges and pickup the odd bit of loot (I still need 3 peices from there and Im sitting at 22K Health raid buffed with 104% Avoidance/Block) - It makes all the difference when you start getting everyone down to a T.

Start with 3 healers and 2 tanks, then 2 Healers and 2 Tanks, then eventually 1 Healer, 1 Tank and 2 Hybrids to help out on the couple things that are needed.

My old guild used to farm badges in Kara on a Friday night, along with a few drinks, we never got anywhere near beating 2hrs 45 tbh to many "brb need a beer or brb I need a pee" lol

Egg have a look at this Warlock DPS Spreadsheet (http://www.leulier.com/) Its by far the most accurate DPS calculator I have used for a Lock (have a look see what your DPS would be with your current gear and a Felguard build   -) )

Well, went to Kara last night for my first time! I was only off-tank, but still enjoyed it.

We only went as there was a few new guild member who hadnt been before (inc me), so we went. We did the first boss, with that horse, then went to Moroes where we wiped 3 times, but then had to finish anyway, as people had plans. The Raid Leader said wed go today with a proper team, so hopefully Ill be able to go again!
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 14, 2008, 05:48:36 AM
Grats :) Off-tank is a good place to start but can get boring quite quickly but you need the experiance, badges and gear.

Make sure you watch and try and learn the pull orders, what gets shakled/CCd, tactics for each boss becuase as the MT you will be doing majority of marking and pulling :)
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 14, 2008, 22:27:40 PM
I know in 5 mans I marked, but the Raid Leader has been doing it, and telling everyone what to do. Which suits me tbh, as I havent a clue what cant be shackled/CC/etc/etc!

We went to kara again tonight, and it had onbiously been reset, so killed the 1st boss again. No plate dropped. Killed Moroes 3rd time lucky, but no plate drop again!! I then had to leave for work, but they said they were going to go to the next two bosss. Does that mean if/when I go tomorrow back to kara, those bosss will still be dead, and I wont get the see them this week, but the others will still be there?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 14, 2008, 22:31:40 PM
Yep Maiden and Opera event will be gone if they manage to do them. Maiden drops 2 or 3 tanking peices and Opera can drop a nice plate DPS helm but cant think of anything else from there.

You will have to wait till next week to see them but then again Opera is my least fave event in Kara so be happy :P
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 15, 2008, 01:58:08 AM
Hopefully they didnt manage it, and will have to go back tomorrow and try again.

Only prob is, the main tank will get all the better stuff she needs, and Ill get the cast offs :( But, suppose I am learning still. Will piss me off though not getting the epics, but I suppose she does have priority being MT.

Did you mean as well, you did the whole of Kara in 2h 45mins??
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 15, 2008, 02:50:06 AM
You have to start somewhere mate and be happy you get badges now, didnt when i started off tanking. THe badge gear is so insane compared to majority of kara stuff.

Yes whole kara is 2hr 45 is the best we managed.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 15, 2008, 04:08:25 AM
Thats insane doing it that fast! Supose you had everything sorted didnt you. Doubt well finish it all this week. Although some of the guild memebers have completed it before, Im still not sure we will. Our healers didnt seem the best either, as they let me and the MT wipe once or twice.

Yeah, the badge gear does look pretty sexy! I could imagine getting a full set of badge gear taking a while!! lol
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 15, 2008, 05:02:15 AM
As I said in other thread if you can get everyone stocked up (Pots, Elixirs, Food, Water, Bandages, Fully repaired) and you out gear the place by silly amount you can do it with 1 tank, 1 healer and 1 resto hybrid to help with raid healing... then you have 7 dedicated DPS (atleast 3 warlocks :P)

Thats most people in T5 gear and none of that BRB and then going away for 20min crap.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 15, 2008, 16:29:04 PM
Yeah, suppose if you were very well geared it wont be too hard. But, surely from my point of view running kara will make my gear better so then I can move on to the next place?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 15, 2008, 22:36:37 PM
Yer kara is a progession tool, get the gear so you can move upto doing 25man raids however for 22badges in a night its still worth guilds doing runs even when you outgear the palce
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 16, 2008, 01:05:26 AM
Yeah, thats true, for ~3 hours work you do get a lot of badges! I didnt think of that.

I only missed one boss last night, so not too bad. Except it dropped a good necklace which I could have had, as the MT already had a better one. I got this off Julianne tonight though http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28573 Id rather up my armour, rather than getting a 2H though, but beggers cant be choosers!

Would you suggest keep on running Kara over and over until I get the gloves, boots, etc to drop for me, or is some things better in Heroic Instances which I should aim for as well? As im happy doing kara over and over, or is it a bit of a waste keep doing it, if I can go elsewhere and get as good/better epics? As thats what I want now, all epics!

Im getting my rep up with SSO, so I can get the shield from there, as that will be fairly easy to get. What did you buy 1st with your badges? Or is it totally dependant on my current gear situation, or for tanks is there "something" which every tank should get 1st?

Tried The Curator, but we wiped once, but then everyone had to leave anyway, so hopefully well be doing that tomorrow night. Seemed quite hard for me as the OT, as the Raid Leader said for me to try and tank all the Astral Flares which he summoned. But because our DPS seems quite poo, I was running around like a headless chicken. They got curator down tho about 1/4 health when we wiped.

Cheers
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 16, 2008, 03:03:35 AM
Ah thats a shame as the necklace is really good (Im still after it myself). I would always suggest doing Kara over heroics if you get the option as the stuff is mostly better and the badges are just great!

As for badges its down to what you currently have, replace your worst peice / peice thats less likely to get an upgrade 1st but overall you cant really go wrong as the newer badge gear (70+ badge stuff) is comparable to T5/T6 so you wont be replacing them any time soon.

Curator is the first major DPS test for any group, its not that hard to tank / heal through but you need to get him down by 3 evos otherwise you are more or less f**ked.

Make sure all your locks are putting Curse of Doom on him 50seconds before the next Evo and everyone else are keeping all their burst / cooldowns for when he goes into Evo and not before.

edit: Oh and all your DPS should be on the orbs until he goes into Evo, when he goes into Evo the OT picks up the last orb and moves it away from everyone. When evo is over everyone moves back onto the orbs untill the next evo. Rinse repeat.
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 16, 2008, 03:38:45 AM
Yeah, I was a bit anoyed I missed the necklace.......especially as I would have deffo got it, as the MT already has it. Cheers for the advice on the badges. Im in no real rush for anything yet though, as Ive only got 6 badges! Do you not get 2 badges per heroic though?

Our RL did keep telling the lock to do something, as his mana wasnt really going down, so guess he was doing fcuk all. We did use them tac-tics, but think our DPS was lacking. We have a good healer, MT, and DPS, then there is me who is new, and I think the rest of the group are quite virgins to kara as well.
Is the curator hard to tank?? As I wouldnt mind trying tomorrow when we go again, and let the MT do the Orbs. The MT has about 1k more health, 3k more armor etc, so is it silly for me to suggest me trying to tank him?
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 16, 2008, 04:12:11 AM
Badge wise you get 1 badge for the first boss, 2 for most of the others, 3 for prince.

You get 1 badge for each boss in a heroic (3 to 5) plus if you do the daily heroic (given by a guy in shatt) you get an extra 2 but they normally take a couple hours and as I said before I personally find them alot harder than Kara.

You can suggest it if hes going to be able to do more dmg than you on the adds, whats the worst that can happen? :P
Title: Re:Warcraft again!
Post by: chrisdicko on May 16, 2008, 04:21:42 AM
lol, yeah suppose I can only ask!

It might be worth me running a few heroics, especially the daily....and thats 5-8 badges for a 2 hours run (there or there abouts), where as weve spent quite a while in kara already and I only have 6! lol.
Title: Warcraft again!
Post by: Leon on May 16, 2008, 04:27:49 AM
Well there isnt any reason not to do heroics when you are not karaing - just saying dont start a heroic when you know are doing Kara that night becuase you will either have to leave the group and disapoint 4 people or say no to the raid and miss out :P

Ive slowed down the amount I play now. Finding it hard on my server to get a good guild. The better ones only want really geared players, which Im not at the moment. And the guilds I do get in, dont do anything!! I did find one, and the 1st week, they took me to kara, but then the guild split it for what ever reason. The next one I joined was suppose to be one of the top guilds, but then they didnt do anything, as the officers had taken a month off....which was no use to me really! Now the current one Ive joined, the first night I joined, we went to Gruul...but totally failed. At least they tried though. And hopefully tonight we will be going to kara. But will see.

Move servers.. think we can do with another tank - but they would need to see your gear first :oD

We got Gruul down for the 1st time last week with only Guild members (no pugs) & I led the Raid - which was a laugh as I had no idea of the kill order for the High King, etc.
Weve moved on to Void Reaver as well, we can get to him easy enough, its just thats where the n00bs show as they cant do simple tasks (same reason it took so long to
down gruul).

Im hanging about this server , as my friend is still on there, but is taking a break.

We went to Kara last night, which is only the 2nd time Ive been in!! And we went a LOT faster than the first time with the old guild, so I was pleased about that. Got to Opera, and wiped 1st time (only wipe of the night), as no-one in the guild had actually done Wizard of Oz before, so after the RL read up on tactics, we did fine 2nd time round. Didnt really get any nice treats really, I got:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28502 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28516
But I already use:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23538 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34680

So the bracers are a small upgrade, and Ill put a 12 Stam Gem in there, and +12 Defense Enchant on there. But, I dont think the neck is an upgrade really is it!?

Heres my gear at the moment. Still need to deffo upgrade some items, like boots, waist, shoulders etc.

Hows everyone doing with wow now-a-days? Im buzzing, as I just got the Sun Eater to drop.....as my old weapon was really letting me down! Still got 3 blue armor though, so thats my next aim, to improve them. Will be getting http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31858 in a couple of weeks when the fair comes to town, as ive got the complete deck now.
Im in a good guild, who are always doing things. Kara on farm, which is helping me get my gear better, weve done Gruul a few times with ease, they are doing ZA although I havent yet. We went to SSC yesterday, but struggled as not one of us had been before. But thats the next thing I think.....and Maggy.

Do maggy, shes easier than gruul. We do Maggy & gruul back to back.
Also leave SSC unless you got tanks with the proper gear - 1 needs frost, 1 needs nature & its good to have a back up of both.

Instead of SSC go to Tempest Keep. Skip the first boss & go straight to Void Reaver. Hes an easy tank n spank boss.
After you got him down, head to Solarian - as long as you got a Tankadin (paladin that can tank). Both bosses are quite easy.

If your sticking with SSC, then skip the 1st boss if you crew hasnt got the res. gear & head straight to the 2nd boss.
Hes easy enough if you have the healers.

SSC - We did miss the 1st boss I think! Is that a Water elemental type boss? We killed about 5 groups of mobs, which got rid of all the elite fish, then we went to the Big Fish boss.....but kept wiping to be honest, and it got too late!! We do have a brilliant druid tank, and a brilliant tankadin. But Im almost sure we dont have the frost and nature kits! Will ask on our forums  about TK, as SSC seemed hard of us at the moment. Would SSC be a lot easier if we were farming ZA?

Im not 100% sure why we havent actually done Maggy yet. As weve done Gruul quite a few times now. Depending on whos in our group, we can do it fast....other times we do it quite slow though.

Lurker who is the boss you tried is the easiest boss in SSC IMO its all about avoiding the sprouts and whirls tbh make sure all in the raid has a “Boss” mod installed and takes notice of it and you will get him down :)

Hydross the elemental boss you skipped is pretty easy if you have the resistance gear but really hard if you don’t, IMO get all the guild involved with the farming …shouldn’t take long to get the tanks kitted out if everybody helps :)
If you can get Lurker down your guild will be able to get Void Reaver down in TK chances are that will be the only boss you can get down in there till you can get the 2 bosses above down.

I’ve started playing again I’ve seemed to have landed lucky with my new guild they seem a really nice bunch :) Currently 4/5MH and 3/9BT
I’m really happy to find a guild committed to progress this close to the expansion and I am really enjoying WoW again :)

Is anyone looking forward to WOLK?

Dont think I am really, as im fairly good geared now in epics etc, and in a few months Ill be back in geens and blues. And will be just a normal tank again, until im geared up....which I dont want as I cant play too often, so has taken me a while getting good! :(

Yeah, good idea. I dont do any PVP though, but should maybe grind it for honor so I could get some shoulders or shield etc for tanking like in TBC.

Im getting it, but dont think Ill enjoy getting to 80......hope I dont quit it, lol.

I formatted my pc about 3 or 4 weeks ago now, and didnt reinstall WOW. But may have to now.

Sounds stupid, but I couldnt really be arsed putting any time or effort in to it (gear wise) as when WOLK comes out, its all going to get replaced quite soon, which is a bit annoying considering the time Id put in.

So how are people doing on WoW now.

Just about to ding 40 (2k of exp left) on my Warlock on Sporregar and still very impressed with the class looking forward to getting to 60 for my Fel Guard and getting some real PvP done rather than just raping near enough anyone up to a maximum of level 43-44.

Joined a nice guild with a large amount of varying levels also with some real life friends in so able to have a good laugh. Will post up my Armory link later.

4 Days Played with PvP and General Fooling around :)
