while i am waiting for my ma-770-ds3 to return from rma i am running an asrock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 R3.0 , while running a hd3870xt the temps for the mobo are 35 idle and 42 underload . but running my hd4870 the temps are 52 idle and 58c + , why is this ?

your case temps must be much higer....

try with the case side off to test and see if it makes much difference...

you really need extra case fans...blowing cold air in at the bottom of the case, and hot air out at the top ;)

my case is the coolermaster cm690 and has 6 120mm fans and 1 80mm fan , the temps on the ma-770-ds3 never went above 40c full load . is it that the asrock mobo does not like running the 4870 although it says its supported for crossfire . it seems odd that the 3870 runs fine and not that hot mobo wise but running the 4870 makes the mobo very hot

the m.b temp normally is the north bridge temp... maybe the faster card is just pushing your PC a bit harder ?

also... what program are you using to check the temp ?  some programs can read the wrong one / read them wrong, you could check in the bios ?

tbh... as long as its not crashing its nothing to worry about :)

also (i should have thought of this sooner)

if theres a fan on the m/b make sure its still running properly etc...
(assuming youve already done/seen that tho)

but also... make sure the heat sink is fixed on properly...  you could also try removing it, scraping off the crappy heat pads they use and putting some decent goo on it instead :-)
