So theres this XP install with IE...and the problem is:
The first browser window opened never sits ontop of any other windows even when it has focus.

You can open any number of browser or application windows, but the first one will always stay firmly hidden. You can move it around and see it if you move other windows out of the way but it stubbonly refuses to come to the front.

Anyone come across this before or have any ideas to cure it?

sounds like it could be some adware/spyware problem, it doesnt sound safe...

My first thought too, but the user isnt a total newb...he was complaining to his ISP about them cutting his bandwidth (again) after hes paid for 2mb and getting 512k.

Ill talk him through installing SpyBot & Adware...any other Spyware killers people can recommend...

Or other ideas if the PC comes out clean?

Sounds like an "invisible dialog box" issue. Does he get a random "ding!" or something at any point?

Mates have had a similar problem in the past, the spyware was crashing but the error message only showed in the event log, not on the screen. Was wierd but a scan with adaware removed it.
