Ok so heres the deal - had to buy a computer for the good lady to do her uni degree with. Got on the bay and got an emac 1.25 ghz, 1GB RAM, 40GB HDD for £50 delivered. Suits her well as she likes how shiny osx is and she has her itunes on it.
Anyway - they send the wrong one - only a 1ghz so rather than return it I said Ill keep it and have the other one if they give me a good price. £20 later I now have two!
So ones setup with Tiger for her and Ive got mine on Leopard and in the process of putting Pro Tools, Final Cut and ilife on it. Basically its going to be my editing suite for photos, videos and music.
So far really impressed. Its a little slow as to be expected but after some tweaking its perfectly usable. I upgraded my HDD to 80GB (now that was a job and a half!) and the RAM to 2GB and its perfectly capable of video editing - havent tested Pro Tools yet but Im told it should run fine. Setting it up to get it perfect was something of a bastard - not sure they deserve the no fuss/hassle reputation they play on. Its not hard but there was a lot of little fiddly things to do.
I definitely wouldnt pay the silly money Apple charges for its computers - but Im very happy with what Ive got for my money. Dont ever see OSX rivalling Windows 7 for my main rig tho I have to admit.
