on: May 24, 2007, 20:23:01 PM
Im running office 2k, I set p a ooa rule that should forward exchange mail to a gmail account, but it dont work.

Any ideas? Is there a setting in exchange that might stop this working?

you cant forward mail to an external account, its almost mail relaying and i dont think its possible.

I think (and i mean think cos its a long time since i tried) that you can forward internal only mail by creating a contact and setting the primary smtp address of the contact to the external address. thats not relaying.

but external to external is classed as relaying.

having said the above, theres so many different ways to cheat exchange, i wouldnt be surprised if you could get round it. an event sink would be one way off the top of my head...

you can set up a rule server-side to pass the mails from one addy to another.  If you are setting them up client-side then they will only work when the client is logged in.  I would check, but my server is down for the count atm.

Thanks :)

Heres what I did:

I made a new custom recipient; user@gmail.com. Open OOA, selected Im OOA and I made a rule to forward all msgs to the custom recipient.

I know you can do it server-side but my account doesnt have permission to set that up - probably cos the exhange server is flaky as feck and my boss dont want me messing with it. Also I was reading about mail loops so I didnt wanna go there anyway.

Anyhow, it aint a biggy cos the dude can just vpn in ..I need closure I guess :)
