Personally I like the nostalgia of the forums looking as they do, for 30 new topics a year it’s hardly worth upgrades that are not essential

For me it is more migration to a more dynamic medium. I tried the push to get everyone on discord for example but Mastadon is quite new and if you had a tek based server in their list (which there is not really a big one) it could get a lot of growth.

Not a fan of discord, it’s good to get a quick answer to a question but I try to spend as little time as possible on there. Once they get any significant numbers of users it’s just a stream of people talking over each other.

Not heard of Mastadon so can’t really comment, will have a look and see what it’s all about

Mastodon is a decentralised social network made up of independent servers organized around specific themes, topics, or interests.
Basically it is cross between a forum on topics like this and twitter. So just dynamic.

Social Media has killed the internet IMO, so much knowledge has been lost due to forums shifting away from BBS type systems to things like Faceache and Tw*tter.  I'd rather it stayed like this personally.  Discord is OK as an IRC alternative, but shouldn't be the focus.

Just to reiterate, I absolutely have no plans to shut the forums down even if we tried other things and the cost for me keeping them running is negligible. :ptu:

I've taken a clone of the site now, which is running fine, over the coming days I will try upgrading that clone to the latest PHP and SMF versions to see what, if anything, breaks. :ptu:

Try again, it may be fixed now. Some of the forum posts and topics had gone out of sync. I've no idea how that happens but I blame knighty.

you can't blame me, everyone knows I'm a tard, quite frankly anyone who listens to me or pays any attention to anything I do, knowing I'm a tard, should also be labelled a tard
