Anyone actually still heavily into Overclocking / cooling?

Yeah yeah, after a huge hiatus, got an i5 nicely clocked up on air, and an oc/ed 7850

knighty is still well into watercooling and I think maybe a couple of others still do that post less, tbh there's not much need to overclock these days though the way things are, I've mildly tweaked my CPU up to 4Gz turbo aircooled but thats it.

watercooling is boring now... it's all too easy... you can buy everything you need online in 5 min from about a million different shops

it was much more fun in the old days when you had to scour the net looking for every little bit... or make it yourself

my first watecooled pc was a k6-2-450... I made the waterblock out of a bit of steel square section pipe with the ends welded up, it was on my desk with a pump under the desk, in my bin full of water.... which I used to dump huge chunks of ice into out of the chest freezer....  that was back before I had an internet connection... so I'd never heard of watercooling before... and until I got online I thought I'd invented it (was only young) lol

far too easy these days !

Oh the memories!

I once tried to fabricate my own waterblock, it was horrendous and I gave up after 4 or 5 hours of toil.

The pencilled in links on those AMD CPUs ring a bell too, jesus didn't realise I'd been around as long as I have. Must be 12-14 years easily.

Just digging all the old pics, logo's and info from the days at OCS, BF & TEK :-)

Oh, they were the days, and 12-14 years sounds about right. I guess we all have houses, families, cars and are all grown up now?

Anyone know what Sam is doing these days?

Sam does contract java development in London now, although I might be back working with him on a couple of projects if they take off :)

I joined when doing my AVCE in ICT at college, must have been 2001 or '02. Shame those first posts have been lost in the ether I guess, would have been interesting to see what questions I registered to ask. Must have been building my first computer I think!

Hi C0ol , still overclocking but not so extreme.I'm still using the Abyss rad from all those years ago & only just updated my Ehiem water pump.I have actually updated my Globwin 802 to Haf X , this must have been & least 12yrs or more old , had to go as no way i could fit a 7950 in it.Actually fired up my Prommie for the first time in years & it ran fine but it needs a refurb really but far to expensive to bother.
Who the smeg is Dwayne Dibbley ?

Hi Cool and welcome back.

I got myself a 3770K and haven't bothered with overclocking or extreme cooling recently. There is very little point if it does what you want in an acceptable time. SSD saves some time loading and 8 GB memory handles the stuff I do very well. Still thinking of going up to 16GB, and updating my second rig...

Seems that a 2.8Ghz dual core cpu isn't fast enough to run Guild Wars 2 World V World battles without massively dropping frames - despite the fact it runs every other game adequately.

Well I've just upgraded to:
8350 Black
Asus ROG Crosshairs V-z
16gb RAM
3gb 7970 GFX

Was thinking of going for a Corsair 800D case, 1200psu and a nice watercooling setup!

It's great to see some old faces / names around.
