Applying for International Jobs

Anyone ever applied for any jobs internationally? Im tempted to start doing it in Canada, as thats where I next want to go, however I cant see anyone short listing me over people who can actually make a face to face interview, esp if its only for a 6-12 month contract (2-3rd line It support / project work is normally what I go for).

Just wondering if anyone has done this sort of thing and could give their experiences?
