Optimus Are developing a new keyboard aiming to be cheaper and not take as long as the first.

As the developer says it is based on the concept that all the small oleds cost more then on screen so they are doing just that...

It is obvious that 100 small displays are more expensive than 1 big display. So were concentrating our attention on designing a keyboard based on Upravlator idea.

Our goal this year (besides starting production of the new Mini) is to create a prototype of a keyboard with transparent keys overlayed on a single display. Production should start later this year, or in the beginning if 2009.

First real thing will most probably be based on a TFT-display. Hopefully, this full-color keyboard will retail for under U$800.

itll be interesting to see just how much cheaper they can make it, the optimus is a good idea, its just the current version is at least an order of magnitude too expensive.

Although even at $800 this is a good bit too much to be popular.

$800 is too much to make it a huge success but at that sort of price they will prob sell quite a few... you know how us geeks like our toys.

Still way out of my price range tho, Im still using my 5quid keyboard from 5 years ago

TBH I was hoping for less, but at $800 at least they have a fighting chance of selling a few, which will help them to survive long enough for the price to drop and once the ball starts rolling we can all have one :)

I like their concepts, I think it will get there.. That new cheap pc concept with the duel touch screen will be interesting to see how the keyboard works on that but I think a full multi touch touch screen with that progressing feedback technology may be the future.

If the keys are over a single display, what about the areas without keys? If the display is still runnning under the matt black plastic there I would have thought itd be best to make that also transparent. Then you could draw/make labels for key macros and all sorts?
