deppends exactly what you want, spotify is supposed to be good if you want to pick exactly what you hear, I like last.fm which just plays music which is "like" the band you ask for. Downside, you dont get to listen to exactly what you want, upside you can carry on listening to roughly the same type of music add infinitum, and if it plays something you dont like you can scold it and it wont do it again.

Last.fm sounds just like pandora then.

I had never heard of Pandora until they stopped access from the UK (bad timing as usual!) so was looking for something similar when I found last.fm, it suits my needs. Ive never actually used Pandora so not sure how they compare in terms of quality of service, ease of use etc, but they are pretty similar on paper.

Im still on the waiting list for a Spotify account, but if youre willing to pay you shouldnt have that problem.

Unless theyve changed it now you can bypass the waiting list for spotify by just going straight to the sign-up page.

Also I heard on one of their ads that there is a new thing that is a bit like last.fm in that you can get it to play similar artists by using a special search term or something. Not sure what it was but the feature is there.

last time I checked Spotify was invite only for free accounts, you can by-pass the waiting list, but only by buying a premium account.

Admittedly I havent checked in a couple of months, but I assumed they would inform those on the list if signups re-opened.

You can still skip straight to sign-up page to get a free Spotify account without an invite:

http://www.spotifyfm.net/

Theres a few out there like the above. Pretty sure theres a similar thing built into spotify now, but cant find the info on it. At the very least there is the Artist radio which is a mishmash of the artist you chose and similar things as well as collabs.
