Car Hire in California
on: June 25, 2007, 18:56:59 PM
Continuing my trip research ;)

So I reckon Ill need a motor for 13-14 days, but I dont want to hire out one of the usual American buckets, not if I really want to enjoy those roads.

The only American cars Im considering are the Mustang or Cadillac CTS.

Ive had a look and you can get a bog standard Mustang convertible (V6) for around the 450quid (900$) mark for the entire 2 week duration. Edit/ Just found a company in LA thatll do it for $520 ($800 fully insured) for two weeks with unlimited mileage... tempting.

That doesnt exactly set my heart on fire, so Im tempted to spend the extra $$s. Budget Beverly Hills do a BMW Z4 for $1350 a two weeks or a BMW 325i for 990$ for the two weeks.

Theres slso these guys

Although theyre quite pricey.

Depending on how many of us go, Im tempted to go for the Z4. :P Although its an auto :(

Anyone hired a car in the states? That isnt a heap of junk that is.

Not a great deal of point having something fast, as the distances are enormous and the roads mostly straight, youll end up going as slow as everyone else. A BMW saloon comfort would be a good idea imho - you want air con! There is more manual speed enforcement over there too, no gatsos.
