Title: Christmas Plans
Post by: neXus on December 20, 2021, 06:22:42 AM
What is everyones COVID affected Christmas(AGAIN/STILL) looking like?
Able to do any plans, doing anything?

We can not go to New Zealand to see family yet again - will be 3 years now.
Baby too young, Covid, Covid.

So it will likely be Zoom's, Xmas at home.

Reckoning at the moment seems to be that lockdown will come right after Christmas, I have the in-laws over boxing day and the rest of it is free for self-indulgence though. :santa:

Despite our new state leader (who is super lean on everything) not budging at the moment since we opened up to allow non vax people to go into shops etc the cases have jumped to 3k a day! I think we will go into lockdown right after the holiday break as well.

NZ cases have been relatively low but they only allowed the Auckland masses out of Auckland from the 15th,so we're all expecting a big jump in numbers around Xmas.

Suspect there'll be a review of policies towards the end of the holidays, one which probably should happen a little sooner than that but I get the feeling the nz govt is feeling a little pressure to give the population a bit of a break.

Our plans are the same as last year. No family in NZ so basically just us. We were going to spend a few days at a nice beach but couldn't get a kennel sorted in time for the dogs.

how are people treating lockdowns over there nexus/zpyder?

over here (north east at least) people bitch about lock down non stop, lots of people refusing vaccines etc. too

we're supposed to have masks on in public places / shops etc. but a good 50% of people don't bother

I honestly couldn't care either way, lockdown and masks don't bother me at all, but I appreciate I'm lucky in that lockdown has no real influence on my life... I might think differently if it was screwing me over

Attitude was pretty good for the last two years but when covid got into Auckland they locked Auckland down (1/4 of the population) and for about 3 months. Everyone was getting tired of it by the end as they provide a lot of the economy elsewhere in the country.

NZ is about 90% vaccinated, and the other 10% is very vocal though, either because they think there's a massive conspiracy, or don't trust the vaccine, or just don't want stuff if it's forced on them. I was walking down the street the other day with a mask on with my son and a lady shouted "did I want an exemption?" I replied with an exasperated no, she said I should get one and I bit my tongue with what I wanted to say and just said I didn't need one.

With hindsight I think she would have gi en me a fake one if I said yes, and I wish I'd done more to try and catch her out to report her to the authorities.

Masks are required indoors or on transport here, most people comply without issue, but the ones that don't are messing things up. You can get exemptions but lots of people are doing them fraudulently (a few GPS have been caught out as anti Vax and issuing exemptions on request). As a result lots of shops don't accept exemptions (against the law due to discrimination) which means the people that lose out are the shops and people with valid exemptions that end up getting turned away due to the very selfish few that don't get it.

NZ really needs a major outbreak to occur so that these guys see first hand it's no joke. Unfortunately we've done that well here that they don't see the pandemic as an issue as they tend to not actually know anyone who have had it etc.

We are HOPING to be over at Easter and I told the wife I do not want to spend the entire time just bouncing between the families etc.
If a road trip is on the cards Rotorua is an option. If so I will let you know and try to meet up.
