painkiller
painkiller
anti-inflammatory
muscle relaxant

guessing you got those from your doctor ?

the codeine is going to make you seriously constipated... like not taking a dump for a week constipated
and I'm pretty sure that muscle relaxant has side effects you don't want... it's the kind of thing they give to crazy people to calm them down

Paracetamol is great, naff all side effects, plus it interacts with other pain killers in a good way to make them more effective without making you overdose etc.. so keep taking that one

as soon as you can, cut down on the others over a few days and stop taking them, take ibuprofen instead, a lot less side effects and you'll feel much better when you stop taking it compared to the others... keep taking them all and you'll feel rough as hell when you stop taking them

tell me how many / what size / how often you're taking them and I'll check with my sister again - she's a pain specialist and does this stuff every day :-)

I had the Ami ones for tension headaches a while ago, all I can say is watch out for weird dreams.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I'd assume Amitriptyline are the worst, they give drowsy effects in the morning, i plan on cutting them out in a couple of nights as i want to be back to work next Monday if poss.

I will however keep taking the pain killers and anti inflammatory, the pain is too much for Ibuprofen, i'm glad i have something stronger.

paracetamol+ibuprofen are surprisingly good

you won't notice the difference in pain level / the effect the pain killers are having

after a week on codeine and naproxen you'll feel like sh*t, but you'll automatically blame it on your back not the drugs (because that makes more seance at the time)

don't mean to dismiss the pain you're in, or play it down

Its ok i understand how bad these pain killers are, i will be off them by Monday as i can't afford to be off work

keep taking ibuprofen for at least another week, it's an anti-inflammatory (am I spelling that right???)

it reduces the swelling in your back muscles and between the joints which makes it all heal faster :-)

Depends, for some it does, I need medication for it, which causes it's own problems. For others it doesn't produce any adverse symptoms.

Paracetamol is great, naff all side effects,

Latest research is showing that paracetamol is often useless for back pain, like I and many other sufferers have been telling them for years. Even worse long term use of paracetamol can be bad for you. Short term use is fine - providing you don't take too much. It's usual for doctors to prescribe a combined cocodamol tablet rather than two separate drugs. Taking paracetamol for long periods can paradoxically cause headaches.

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2015/04April/Pages/Paracetamol-not-effective-for-lower-back-pain-or-arthritis.aspx

Naproxen is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflamatory, a stronger relative to ibuprofen. As a side effect of reducing inflammation it reduces pain. These drugs may rarely produce side effects such as chest pain or stomach issues.

Amitriptyline is an anti-depressant also used as a muscle relaxant. Again this can reduce pain. It also has a range of side effects.

Always check with a doc if possible before you cut down. If you get side effects consider stopping then talk to the doc.

paracetamol is included because it increases the effect of the other drugs without any side effects

hospitals give paracetamol at the same time as morphine, (and have done to me) because it's better to give you 100ml of morphine and 2 paracetamol than give you 125ml of morphine (pulled the numbers out of my ass as an example))

because morphine (or whatever drug they give you) normally have side effects and/or there's a pretty tight limit to how much they can give you

Jamie is the only one who knows how much pain he is in, how much it's effecting him and how well the pain killers are working, he's young, strong, fit and healthy.   I don't want to put words in his mouth but he's already said he wants to get back to work ASAP, so I'm guessing he's not bothered about a bit of pain, or a bit of an ache as long as his back gets better and he can work.

I re-typed my earlier posts about 3 times each because I didn't want to dismiss the pain he's in, but I posted anyway because if he takes all those for 2 weeks, as soon as he stops he'll feel like he's been hit by a truck

more experience of getting injured... and tbh it's getting to the point where I'm going to have to start being careful just to stop people thinking I'm some kind of nutter doing it on purpose
