Got about ½ an inch on Friday which hasn’t shifted at all and it’s that bloody cold!

The car said it was only 1c at 2 o’clock this afternoon, I can’t remember it being so cold for more than a day or 2 this side of Christmas for a long time.

how come when I (and most of us on this board I think) was a kid we went for about 10 years without more than a sprinkling of snow let alone enough to get the day off school, and now Im grown up so snow is ~60% a pain in the arse (at least 40% of me will never grow up and still goes "oooo cool, snow!"), we get dumped on every year?

PS not a flake in Oxfordshire/Wiltshire as yet, thank goodness.

We always had a day or two a year at least for snow days in West Lancs when I was a kid, Ive never really seen it as a rarity. Plus the obligatory days after that when the heating broke down.

Quite a few times the snow days always ended up on my birthday in February.

now THAT is a good snow day!

I dont think I got more than 4 days off school for snow in my entire childhood. I do remember a few days where it was a bit touch and go waiting round the radio to hear the list of schools which were closed. In those days my Dad was the proud owner of a mighty Landrover (and he knows how to drive it too which is more important), so if the school was open there was no danger of us not being able to get in.

I had a couple when I was younger, actually had more days off due to the road to get to the school being flooded than because of snow.

well I can confirm that this morning the roads of Oxfordshire come in two varieties.

All the main roads and the larger minor ones are completely clear with maybe just a hint of slush, nothing serious.

The very minor roads are an inch deep in compacted snow and f***ing lethal.

Here in central London NO snow is settling, yet I hear nothing but worrying reports of monster snow back home, worrying about getting back on the train Friday  :gag:
