its pretty bad.... main roads were ok today (I drove through there ~2pm)

but the back end of the van was slipping a bit on some of the hills when it started to snow (and that was with a ton in the back to keep it down)

not sure if its snowing there right now.... but its coming down fast here - I overtook a few cars stuck on the hills on my way home about 10min ago (10pm)

Exmoor was well covered tonight, had to drive slow for around half the journey as the roads were only part gritted, there was a lot of slush build up as well as ice and snow, got stuck going up a hill and had to reverse back down and take another route, surprised im back so early!

Black ice is horrific this morning and the gritters dont seem to have been out in York at all.

Just had a rather shaky fiancée return home after the car span out and parked itself neatly in a snowdrift alongside various other cars doing exactly the same thing.

Its all looking a bit Mad Max with bits of hub cabs, trim and license plates littering the streets.

I drow 350 k yesterday roads were fine mostly saw one car in the ditch it was slippery but with winter tyres and no quick movments or jerky ones, no hard hitting on brakes and steady pace it is workable :)

I drove from Brighton to Bracknell yesterday and with the exception of one set of lights on a hill that I got caught at it was pretty much without incident. I had to do a hill start in 3rd, in my 1.6i astra whilst wearing snow boots. Not ideal.

The M23, M25 and M3 were all fairly clear although the outside lane was out of use on all but the M3.

There is a lot of slush around though !

Had my first try of driving the rwd BMW through snow and ice, it was well behaved other than a small and easily controllable slide up to a cross roads, I was expecting to not be able to get it back onto my driveway but actually I think it behaved better than my Audi did. Its been warm today and is still warm out now, hopefully the snow will vanish in the morning.

I drove down to Doncaster and then Hull earlier on today.... Doncaster was ok, but only because the first customer there came and met me at the services in his landrover, and then did the 2nd Doncaster delivery for me (to a mate of his)

hull was trucky... main roads were fine but the customer there lives up 5 miles of dirt tracks... luckily the local farmer had cleared them, but they were still slippy as hell, had to keep the speed up to get up the hills too

all was going will until I bounced into a pothole while going round a corner which sent me into a slide.... I was stuck, but it didnt look so bad so I got my shovel and walked around the van to the deep side, I stepped into the snow not expecting it to be deep.... but it came up to my knee.... crap..... took another step.... and it was up to my waste... double crap.... 40min of digging later and I *just* made it out

I used to think i was pretty fit, but I was sweating like a fat guy in a pie show after 5 min, and my arms were in serious pain by the time I was finished.... couldnt feel my legs but I think that was just the cold....

I think I might buy a 4x4 van for next year.... Im getting 20 phone calls a day from people living miles away, and in the middle of nowhere putting orders in for stuff we cant deliver because of the snow/ice

local ones arent so bad, at least if someone gets stuck locally a few guys with shovels and another van to tow them out can sort it out pretty quick/easy

anyone ever used a 4x4 van?  they any good ?   theres not many about :-(

those look good.... but theyre a bit small for what I need...

Im thinking either a transit, sprinter or an iveco....

probably a transit because theres more 4x4 transits around in the uk than the other two!

I used to have a 4x4 Transit when I was doing security systems and CCTV (Mainly for getting around on muddy fields and Rec Areas).  Was actually rather good, but a little slow for general use.  Ex United Utilities van, and the boss got it cheap at the auctions because nobody wanted it!
