Evening, Old boys!
on: December 29, 2017, 21:17:56 PM
Now then you bunch of wonderful people... It's been such a LONG time since I frequented these boards, and I had one of those "moments" today, where I actually stopped what I was doing, and spent quite a lot of time wondering how you were all doing / what you were up to these days? I mean, when all this started, and Sam opened Tekheads, we must have all been spotty teenagers with nothing better to do than sit behind a computer, making our cables look nice, and await the new waterblock to arrive from JessFM, or something along those lines?

So, where is everyone, and how are you doing?

Blast from the past!
Still here, albeit a lot less frequently than previously.  A few on your list are still hanging around but we've lost a lot of members.
I've got 2 kids and still working in IT, currently renovating a house that is on the verge of falling down (while also living in it)

What's going on with you?

I am now hosting/admin of the forums, which doesn't take much as you can see it's a lot quieter these days  Aside from that, in the decade or so gone by I have moved down to the south coast, moved in with my current partner and produced a sprog (Finley is now coming up to 6 months old), worked my way up from Sam's warehouse lackey to a senior full stack developer heading a startup project for Jobsite/TotalJobs Group. Now driving an BMW X3 daddywagon instead of one of myriad Mazda MX-5s.

Also still bum 80's action films, listen to the FLC every so often, love hifi, cinema/films, etc. Not much changed there!

It's great to see another old name come back, let us all know what you're up to as well!

Aha another old boy returns! When did you post frequently (err ish!) prior to this, a decade ago? More? Blimey :tinhat:

As for me, I am a new tie wearing.

Oldish hand here as well, in the mean time I've gotten married, one stepson (Alastair, 12), a son (Lorcán, 3) and a daughter (Niamh, 1). Working for an american IT services firm as a senior information security consultant (I work from home and spend a few days a month on customer sites and the rest under my cars or building the new house!) Used to work for NYSE/Euronext as head of information security operations and engineering but they pulled out of NI and I got fed up of working in Paris and Portugal with a young family at home.

I'm still popping in occasionally too, although the combination of osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia is giving me a hell of a time. winter cold and rain is nasty.

I'm hurt you left me off of that list

But...since your last regular activity....I met someone, got married, bought a house, and then moved to New Zealand. Pretty much sums up my life!

How's the electric bike?

How's the caravan conversion going?

Done anything with the big old Jags in the warehouse?

Nearly killed yourself again yet?

stopped riding the electric bike as soon as I got my license back - went out on bike rides with nephew a bit so he could ride it.  he's at uni now and has his own electric bike - it's really flash, not like the ones held together with gaffa tape like I used to ride (literally everything but the motor was held on with gaffa tape)

sold off the camper van, old jags and a bunch of other stuff at a hefty loss, too much of a mong since I fell on my head, can't multitask anymore and f**k things up more than I'd like to admit.

It's driving me crazy, I look normal but I'm not strong enough to work in the factory and can't work at desk or I get crippling back pain, I didn't realise how much of my personality/mental state/whatever was centered around being fit/strong and working hard, it's seriously soul destroying.

I had an appointment at the hospital about the back pain, there's nothing they can do, anything they could do is more horrible/risky than it's worth, keep getting told I'm lucky I survived the accident but I honestly wish I hadn't :-(

I'm really sorry to hear that, I didn't realise you weren't working the same any more and thought you had mostly recovered now but I can understand how bad it must be going from being a machine to feeling like you can't do anything :(

You tried finding any other hobbies that could work for you since the physical stuff is out?

It's driving me crazy, I look normal but

I've seen the effects of Aphasia first hand over the summer so I can relate (not in me - not comfortable elaborating more on a public forum)

Can https://www.headway.org.uk/ help?

haven't got time for hobbies nige, can't do any work but still got to be there

I think half the problem is I used to be excited by the work / making changes / taking on new stuff and now it just stresses me out

maybe I'm just doing too many things at once, sounds daft but I keep forgetting I can't anymore

matt the problem is I'm not really a proper mong, I'm just not as smart/quick as I used to be, I don't think anyone but me really notices the difference, I have to think about things that I knew pretty much intuitively before, I used to know how much stock we had in the freezer without looking, but now I have to look - it doesn't sound like a big deal but it makes a mess of things for us, if I need to order in extra chicken the chicken factory needs 3 days notice and we need to change what's happening in the factory to fit around it.

(p.s. I decided because I'm dyslexic and brain damaged I'm allowed to use the word mong and it's not offensive)

Jamie where do you work again?  because if someone phones them up and tells them you're a kiddy fiddler it's nothing to do with me...

on the bright side I'm really glad to hear that, I was a dick to you at the end there and I never apologised to you, meant to phone you back and do it after I talked to you before but didn't really know how.   it was great having you up here because you were someone on my side when everyone else is just looking out for themselves.

if your job ever goes sideways or you change your mind about it let me know straight away - I'd love to offer you a job again.

Hey Cool,
You did not mention me, I am forgettable :(

You know we should all do something together or try to be more dynamic.
Do you guys use Slack? We could make a slack group to hang out "live" on there?

Gamers decide on something like PUBG and do regular groups. Always still want to interact and chat with you guys but these forums while awesome are a bit static.

@knighty - Miss you man! Hope you are well.
