I think youre all being extremly unkind to Privateer.

Comparing someone that as been effected by a terrible debilitating disease like Ataxia and someone that just cant stop eating is rediculous.

I have a terrible debilitating disease too. Im not fat either.

OTOH persecution seems to be the flavour of the day in this thread. Its a great option until you are one of the group being persecuted.

It sometimes requires an awful lot to change dietary intake and quite a lot of the diets arent even worth bothering with, they actually make people worse off than they were before. Diet people and food suppliers all need to clean up their act.

Look everyone lets be realistic, theres obese, morbidly, and wtf did you eat a family obese.

It surely is very very difficult to get to the latter at the fault of some kind of disease or disorder.

that brings back hilarious memories, in a KFC a fat family were devouring a bucket, they started fighting over the last piece.

Greedy people might be able to.

Mentally ill people are not necessarily so lucky though, much as you wont be running off your ataxia any time soon.

Clearly, youll continue to ignore that distinction however, as it suits your argument.

There are also other known illnesses that can cause weight gain like hypothyroidisim, which is part of my problem.

Depression is another cause, although food addiction is probably the reason most of those who are now overweight get that way.

I used to be nearly fifteen stone until about a year and a half ago. My mother dying, the DHSS doing the nasty with my benefits along with the stress and depression that followed cut that to eleven and a half stone within six months. Two stone of that went in just over one month. It takes a good bit of determination to keep my weight from dropping further so I can see why others would end up doing the reverse. Depression can make weight go either way, up or down. Once the weight is there it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of it. No exercise and an inability to get out and about mean boredom so they just eat more to counter that. TV isnt really a means of reducing boredom, and plenty of food addicts equate it with eating so it would just make the problem worse.

Being addicted to something like food, gambling or alcohol is just as real a problem as being addicted to heroin or anti-depressants.

That fat F***g idiot on tv tonight has not walked in 5 years, Id make the fat prick walk to the shop and buy his 12 donuts, prick like that with no record of ill health should be shot to save money.

Thats pretty opinionated for someone who is always on here moaning about ill health. Dont get me wrong I can see the difference - but even so it still seems hyprocritical. I would have thought if he could allow himself to get into that state he probably has some deep rooted emotional issues and almost certainly a severe lack of confidence and self respect. Yes he needs some tough love but I hardly think shooting him or letting him die is quite what he deserves.

Perhaps we should all show you the same amount of compassion?

I cant control Ataxia, and all my family have it, I lost my mum and 3 uncles and 1 Grandad and my kids might have it,  so on the emotional issues were the same, if I could walk Ataxia off id run it.

He cant control Elephantiasis either, nor the lymph node condition he suffers.

Of course... if you had bothered to listen to the first 5 minutes of the program youd have realised that. Instead Id say you acted retarded... but well... its not really acting is it.

Edit:

What you also failed to mention is that for his first operation at least (I had women trouble after that point so ceased watching it to rant down a telephone :D)  he raised the money for a majority of the operation himself. He had to organise the transport, aftercare, anaesthetic (anaestheticisioins?! however one spells it) folk, and the additional members of medical staff which had to be there, including 2 specialist surgeons and a cardiologist.

He raised the money himself, the hospital paid for an operating theatre, the instruments and blood used, and the original surgeon. He had 3 Surgeons in total, 3 Anaesthetic people and a cardio specialist.

How he got there is none of your business he paid for it out of his own money.

Of course because he wouldnt be treating depression with comfort eating at all. Facing the public in a supermarket or being unable to walk much of a distance dur to his worsening condition could also have not affected his attitude to popping next door to the pizza parlour to get his food.

That said, your huge rant was primarily due to the burden he supposedly placed on society. Appears to me that considering he paid for a huge proportion of his operations he was a minimal burden for society to bear.
