people from the north have an inferiority complex over  London. And rightly so. The north is a sh*t hole (the proper north).

youve got it backwards

the vast majority of (educated) people in "the north" know that the uk pretty much revolves around London, and that London and (some of) the south east are the only areas with a net tax input (or whatever you want to call it - putting more in than they take out)

I know a lot more southerners with a chip on there shoulder about the north/south divide than I do northerners, and the south/north ratio or people I know is about 99/1

Ive lived all over the UK when I was in my late teens and early 20s because I used to potter around doing security installs on contract.  Done London, Leeds, Bristol, Hull, Newcastle and Glasgow at various points for between 2 and 6 months a time.  I loathed living in London.  Actually ended up back in Preston, because one thing I did find is that I hated living in Larger Cities (Preston is still a town no matter what they want to call it).  London was my second contract after I did Bristol, and overall I prefer The North.  Its all down to personal opinion really, but as I wasnt pulling in a top-line wage it just wasnt worth living there.  Sure the pay is better, but the contract I took after that was on 5k less pro-rata and I had more disposable income.  Hell, they company I work for now has guys in London on the same wage Im getting, doing a similar job to me, and I dont have their living expenses!

imo...

"The South (excl. London)" > "The North"

However, "The North" > London

We have a superiority complex, we know all the sh*t people move south. London is a sh*t magnet.

Problem is, where theres sh*t theres brass.

Yeah, But Im not travelling to Lon-sh*te-Don.

Cant afford it?

Tbh.. having lived in both London and Sheffield (and being from neither) I can honestly and fairly impartially state that Sheffield (whilst being an OK city) is absolutely nothing compared to London.

Far from it.  London would be a great place, if it wasnt for the Londoners.

The accent drives me into an uncontrollable rage.

That, and they think its a mini USA....ie "The centre of the universe"

Here in the midlands the village I live in has 8 pubs, and less than 6,500 population  and all the pubs are 10 minutes absolute maximum from my house (and I dont live in the center)

The only other places I know with this insane ratio are London, and Nottingham city centre, and I like both

Ferndown is pretty much "Where the old people come to die"...even so we have 4-5 pubs, but about 20 different takeaways. Says something about the care home food...
