And the ONLY reason the NHS has such a poor bottom line is becuase they are underfunded. They cant do the tasks they have been asked to do to their full extent if they dont have teh backing to do it.
underfunded my ass - badly managed more like - the present govt has been chucking money at the thing for the past 10 years at a far greater rate than underlying inflation. End result is an increase in admin mongs.
chucking more money at it wont necessarily help
I mean what has the money been spent on seems to be mostly
employing more admin staff to cope with monitoring the extra budgets & targets and creating more performance reports and reviewing it etc..
contracting the wankest IT company they can find to design a solution that will be guaranteed to be full of holes, not delivered on time and vastly over budget - and of course all delivered at a rip of rate because they are public sector and couldnt negotiate for toffee.
then spend the rest of the money contracting lots of management consultants to tell them where they could spend some money they no longer have and tell them a load of things about their organizations they already knew - only this time it is presented in a nice power point slide show containing management buzz words.
then to balance the books they might well close down a few A&E departments as the management consultants decided it would improve efficiency and if theyve got any more cash left employ a few more admin staff to count how many black people they employ etc..
