Title: Grant National 2012
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on April 04, 2012, 23:34:19 PM
Following on from our glorious successful punts on last year's Mitchell sponsored win (http://www.tekforums.net/general-discussion/grant-national/) who is going to dip in this time?

I'm probably game, it would be nice to beat last years performance!

I've got the 'cham-pagen' (futurama) on standby just incase but my uncles under immense pressure as he picks 3 horses a year, and has had the winner for the past 2 years, can he get 3 in a row!? :dunno:

I'll post his tips as soon as I speak to him, I usually goto the pub with him on a Sunday, but he's away this w/e ;D

Right, I won't have any info until Tuesday PM as my uncle is at the Irish National this weekend (makes him sound pro!) but afaik he's backing ballabriggs again this year, his other 2 I do not know as of yet!

edit-> OH and today I had a £2 bet at 125/1 come in, and last month a £1 bet at 100/1 come in, I daresay I'm getting a bit cocky  :ptu: :ptu: :w00t:

I'd assume your chances of winning on higher odds is more than putting a £1 on the lottery each week.

Alwight listen ap you banch a FACKIN MAGS.

My uncles tips are in with the usual caveats, don't bet more than you can afford to lose and don't assume just because he's been correct the last 2 years he's some kind of magic guru, by his own admission he was shize before these previous 2 'golden years' so don't go dropping tenners down like these are dead certs! The national is quite literally a lottery with so many horses running, so with all these disclaimers aside, he's gone £2.50 each way on the following...

Ballabriggs (around 12/1)
Seabass  (around 22/1)
Shakalakaboomboom (around 18/1)

IF YOU'RE GOING TO BET ONLINE *BE CAREFUL* AND MAKE SURE YOU GET A PLACE FOR 1-2-3-4-5! some bookies appear to offer better odds but are only paying out 1-2-3-4!

I've never understood all the options for betting..."each way"?

I've never understood all the options for betting..."each way"?

'£1 each way' = 2 separate bets

Say the horse is 40/1 odds, and you put on £1 each way

£1 to win, if it does, you win £40 plus your stake back.

£1 to place (place is 1/2/3/4/5) at quarter odds, so if it came 1/2/3/4/5th, you would win £10

Of course if it won, you would win on both bets.

So when I say £2.50 each way above, it's actually a £5 bet.

It's a judgement call, I watch the same team regularly so will have the edge on the bookmaker in some departments, now and again a bet comes up with odds higher than they ought to be, that of course doesn't mean it's going to come in, but if it does it's a decent payout.

I went through Quidco (http://www.quidco.com/paddy-power/?utm_source=WeeklySales&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=45&utm_content=http://www.quidco.com/paddy-power) with PaddyPower for £12 cashback (assuming it tracks) and they offer a £20 free bet.

Got odds of:
Ballabriggs 12/1
Seabass  22/1
Shakalakaboomboom 18/1

Looks like they've cancelled the offer until after the Grant National now :disappointed:

Odds are dropping heavily at many bookies, get in while you can TBH:

My advice would be Betfred, still good odds and they pay on E/W for 6th place too, not just 1-4/1-5

All the really good offer seem to have gone, I just signed up paddypower through quidco had to deposit £20 to get a free £20bet and my £12 cashback so not bad.

If anyone is planning on using their free £20 with paddypower at least, you can only apply it to one horse/stake, not your whole betting total. Just a forewarning

Well the odds have predictably tumbled, Seabass is now 2nd favourite, Shakalakaboomboom 3rd favourite and Ballabriggs 4th favourite, so at the very least I have got you great odds on 3 horses in the top 5

Seabass dropping the most dramatically, dropping from 22/1 down to 11/1!

1. Neptune Collonges

2. Sunnyhillboy R P McLernon

3. Seabass

4. Cappa Bleu

5. Compliance

Should work out moderate profit, enough for some beers  it could have went better though, Shakalakaboomboom and Seabass where dominating at one point.

Such a shame, According To Pete looked like he might place at one point too, could have been some big money. Oh well, good tips still and a good race, we get our money back at least

I don't know how much exactly yet as Paddypower is getting hammered it seems.

In Compliance was my best horse came 5th, alas i did a local bookie bet so places 1-4 only so just missed it this year! Would have paid for a curry and beer tonight, oh well.

It ran well for a horse of 150/1 odds.
