Grant National 2023
on: April 11, 2023, 21:08:27 PM

HELLO SMITHERS

YOU'RE QUITE GOOD

AT TURNING ME ON

As per last year all bookies now have pretty much dumped quarter odds E/W, it seems to be one fifth odds as standard with some taking the pistachios with one sixth ::) With this in mind I probably won't be bothering with anything under 25/1 same last year.

(2022 thread here http://www.tekforums.net/general-discussion/grant-national-2022/ )

https://www.oddschecker.com/grand-national/winner <- odds table, remember generally the odds tumble as the event closes in.

Don't bet more than you can afford to lose. The national is quite literally a lottery with so many horses running, the bookies can be "generous" On this event because with such an enormous field and now reduced E/W payouts they still win regardless.

With all this in mind I'm presuming bet365 will do this offer again on Thursday as per all the previous years, typically of course the one year I bump the old thread to remind people they probably won't

There are 2 roads you can walk, one you can either use an exchange like betfair to lay against yourself and snaffle around £80 risk free, details are on this site here https://www.teamprofit.com/bet365-grand-national-offer-explained

The second road is the one I take, is less level headed and is actually still gambling, what I'll do is use the offer to place £250 of bets for £125, I end up backing around half the field  last year I made a killing, but make no mistake it's a reckless strategy of high risk high reward.

You get a Like just for Smithers' screensaver

I already got my bet365 account re-activated, I'm going to go for the tactical approach this year of backing across the board.

I've jumped in while some of the odds are rosy:

Mr Incredible14/1£7.50
Aint That A Shame20/1£5.00
The Big Dog25/1£4.00
The Big Breakaway33/1£3.00
Coko Beach33/1£4.00
Velvet Elvis40/1£2.00
Mister Coffey40/1£2.00
Back On The Lash50/1£2.50
Minella Trump66/1£1.50

Incredible, it seems bet365 aren't doing this deal this year :-\ Bloody typical, I've been doing the same thing for years!

Anyway, with this mega deal not in play I'm going MUCH more reserved,

£5 E/W

Coko Beach 33/1
The big breakaway 33/1

£3.50 E/W

Eva's Oskar 50/1
Roi Mage 40/1
Fury road 40/1

£2.50 E/W

Our Power 20/1
Galvin 20/1

Total staked £51

I was going to have £2.50 E/W on "the big dog" But the odds have dropped to 16/1 so skipped it. Which pretty much guarantees this will win for a further twist of irony on this thread

Me, every year

   ;D

My total stake was £80, but I think should be balanced out fairly evenly in terms of potential returns. I reckon they have scrapped the deal because of the matched betting folk, first year in six they've not done the promo though!

We've got a few horses in common so it will be interesting to see if we both manage to come out with a decent return. Good luck :ptu:

Couldn't make it up could you

It's such a lottery, a place or two should cover our stakes at least, I just hope this time tomorrow we're not both dead tired

1. Corach Rambler  (IRE) 8/1F
2. Vanillier  (FR) 20/1
3. Gaillard Du Mesnil (FR) 10/1
4. Noble Yeats  (IRE) 10/1
5. The Big Dog  (IRE) 12/1
6. Born By The Sea  (IRE) 50/1

Predictably "the big dog" Returns some money when I'd lost the higher price  utter crapout for me, dreadful with so many low odds horses finishing in the top 6.

£51 lost.

£56 down  Same time next year then!

I was on the fence with picking Corach Rambler too, but then I told myself the favourite never wins ;D
