If you're going to do just one bet, I'd consider going into a bricks and mortar bookie tbh, otherwise you fall into the trap of

PLACE £50 IN BETS AND WE WILL GIVE YOU £200 FREE *†

* if you bet on a specific event that is to our advantage, such as the grant national
† if you then bet your winnings and original stake 5000 times over

---

With that said, none of my top 3 are 'tips' per se, just random punts after reading a bit about the horse, the bottom 3 are from my uncle who to be fair does watch a lot of horse racing.

It's a lottery really, and I won't be surprised if none of my 6 finish in the top 5!

I think I will do that then as I'll be in town at the weekend.

i don't really understand this though, looking on William Hill £5 on Ballabriggs @ 14/1 = £75.00 but then there's the option Each Way @ 1/4 1-4 Estimated Returns :
£97.50 but it costs twice the stake? So what's that about then?

Tek_Ed

Each way means you are betting on the horse to place 1st-4th. If the horse comes 1st you win more, but 2nd-4th gets your money back and gets you a quarter of the original odds.

I'm pretty sure thats right..  ;)

Right I thought it must be something like that then. I was going to just like to chip a few quid on each one, maybe a tenner between 3 of them and hope for the best, but actually reading again the each way option seems worth it (and I just realised that's what e/w means in matt5cotts post).

You should be getting 1-5 for a 'place' in the national, so many horses most bookies increase from 4->5

It's not an exact science, just enjoy it  ;D

I'd get 3 mares, put £2 each way on them and spend £12, I tend to shoot for 20/1 shots minimum myself, but I never ignore my uncle

Yes that's right, it's 2 seperate bets basically, as I put above most bookies will be 1-5 for a 'place'' at quarter odds.

If you do get lucky and back the winner then both bets come through, this happened to me last year, think I got just under a ton off a £2.50 e/w  (I had £15 in bets on overall)

Anyway I hope some of these nags come through, so that every year it can be know as the Grant National for luck and prosperity reasons, all stemming from a typo

Cheers for this. £2.50 each way on the six of them for a total stake of £30 and just won £96.15.
